  • Shame...on the R&R HOF.

    Good...on Elton John.

    Thank You! To Leon Russell.

    Leon is an American treasure.

  • :)

  • God Bless & Thanks for all the Love ! :) QC

  • Leon def has to be the most underappreciated artist ever. Yes, he's a beast with the piano but he's voice is so unique. I mean no offense but for me none of the cover versions are nearly as wonderful as Leon singing "A Song For You".

  • @ptjordan11 his* sorry grammar maniac here lol

  • I was moved by this presentation. Really Enjoyed this, Thank you..

  • This is sooo moving ... I cried ... thank you Elton, thank you Leon. :-)

  • Well, I find it hard to imagine Leon forgotten by anyone whoever heard him. I never forgot. Now, I don't own all of his records, but I got my share. Dr.John too. Actually, I got more Dr. John. But I'll even that off.

  • I rest my fucking case, your Honor.

  • This makes me cry with happiness everytime I watch it Leon I am so happy and proud for you....What a life and you still have that beautiful voice ......I have been a fan as long as I can remember...met ya a few times back in our wilder years you are a very cool dude but your music is amazing!!!! Happy New Year!

  • Where does Elton John get off cracking jokes about someone else's clothes???

    hahaha

Love them all. This is great. =)

  • hearing leon cry while singing that song hits such a wonderful amazing chord in my soul leon youre such a special humble amazing person and talent

  • I saw Leon Russell with Billy Preston in the mid 1970's playing at RFK stadium in DC. The crowd rushed from the seats onto the field when he appeared (silly that stadium promoters thought people wouldn't want to be out on the field and up close). Leon was at the piano and I was right up near the front and some fool lit some fire crackers and threw them on his piano, almost in his face. Leon Russell never flinched and just kept on playing and singing. What a pro. He's fantastic! Saw again 1999

  • Elton saying Leon looked like something from outspace? Do you remember SIR Elton's costumes in those days? Lol!

  • Leon reveals the majesty of spirit I had always attributed to him because of his lyrics and my admiration and love of his craft. Incredible humility from a giant talent. Bless him for this richly deserved recognition. Truly the MOSAT.

  • Who is the woman crying at 7 minutes in?

  • @OttawaNow I believe it's his wife, Janet.

  • I honestly didnt think this could bring a tear to my eye. Boy,was I wrong. Im 57,and probly seen Leon 3 times, but I hope, God willing, I may see him again. And to Elton, my respect for you has grown to new levels. Thanks so much for bringing leon back. God Bless.

  • This is the first time I've seen this. The master of space and time is one of the most talented musicians today. And I liked Elton John before but after this I really love him.

  • when i first saw this, i sat in front of my computer and cried. his acceptance speech was as heartfelt and honest as his music. leon is a national treasure. thankyou elton for giving him the attention and accolades he deserves. I love you in a place where theres no space and time ...

  • I love your music Leon-since 1969 now I knoe more!!! <3

  • I got tears in my eyes when Leon speak, and I thought what's wrong with me but then I read some other comments yeah I'm not alone....

  • My wife's all time favorite artist is Leon Russell. We will see him at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix, yet again, on 10/18/11. Too bad Classic Rock stations forgot about him all these years. He never disappoints.

  • If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you are less than human. That's what I think, anyway.

    The true spirit of brotherhood.

  • Anton Fig!! Awesome!

  • man does this just get you.what a legend i wondered what happened to him because he was so big in the early 70s. love his work

  • Whenever I feel like I need a good cry, I watch this. Not only is the exchange between Elton and Leon so deeply moving, but Leon's soulful performance and John Mayer's accompanying solo is beyond description. Leon, you so deserved this honor for so long....thank you Elton for making it happen........

  • This guy is a fricken Legend..He has been around for such a very long time..and this is long overdue...I think the Small Faces/Faces..should be inducted in 2012..Go and Vote if you agree..Induction into the Hall of Fame...The other nominees are ok..but not as good as the Small& Small Faces...Good one Leon..Respect to you..:)

  • I believe that anyone who can watch the exchange between Leon and Elton and not tear up.... must be completely soulless. I'm going to see Leon tonight in Reno, I can't wait.

  • going to see him tonight in Reno... I'm so excited... this man is a friggin' legend. And as much as I've respected Elton's genius, I have a new love for his humanity... God Bless You Elton, and Leon... thanks for all the great music.

  • thank you Elton! although I always loved him as an artist, I never realized how many songs he was a part of! A really true american Idol! God Bless You Leon for giving me so many great memories !

  • Thank you Elton for making this happen!

  • Tears run down my face as I realize how Leon Russell was in my world from start to finish..Bless you ..You amazing awesome loving Man. Bless you Elton John for making this happen.

  • wow .. too good

  • Loving it. Have an opportunity to see Leon tomorrow night. The first since the 70's in Ft. Wayne, IN. Tomorrow Carbondale CO.

  • Not only is Leon poetic in lyric, he is also poetic in speech. Beautiful

  • Awesomeness! I love Leon's voice!!

  • Thank you Kenneth Dwright..Jimmy Gilstrap

  • I really don't remember when I wasn't listening to Leon Russell . On my grandad's farm in Prague , Oklahoma my aunt and uncle played Leon over and over . That was in the late sixties . Red dirt roads , my uncle's 67 Mustang , Leon on 8-track and a coke with peanuts in it . I would give anything to go back to that time , nothing compares now . God bless Leon , we love you .

  • Just saw Leon a few weeks back at the Sound Academy on Toronto's waterfront. It was a wonderful night and he was amazing!

  • Love you, Leon! RRHF has been WAAAAY behind with this - no excuse!

  • Leon without question deserves this honor. This guy played on SO MANY records with the Wrecking Crew. The man is a legend.

  • @lgwelsh1 Exactly as you said !!!

  • Beautiful!!! Awesome!!!!!! Leon Russell deserve it !! I´m crying! It ´s so touching!!

  • Leon and Dr. John's vocal styles are very similar, I've noticed.

  • We have never forgotten you and always loved you Leon!

  • Now i rest a little easier knowing Leon is in the hall.

  • great mayer around russell greatness...

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • Leon is the best!!!!

  • Now induct Bernie Taupin in the Non-Performers category!!

  • Yes.. it really all started with Delaney and Bonnie...and Elton, thanks for acknowledging them. You're a gentlemen.

  • Listening to Leon speak, made me cry. It was so heart felt.

  • How ironic the last song on this video is Darlene Love singing Da Doo Runn Runn and guess what? Leon Russell played on the original!

  • @gsdsteve Really?!! Oh this man is such amazing! :-)

  • One word....Back To The Island

  • ABOUT FUCKIN TIME THEY PUT HIM IN THERE!!!!

  • Never has Anyone been comparable to this Master, Hero, Artist...LEON RUSSEL IS A DIVINE MAN!!!!

  • It absolutely boggles the mind at how utterly forgotten this man has been and how much he truly deserves an honor like this. I've been such a huge fan of Leon's ever since I was a kid....that distinctive one of a kind growl he had when he sang hit me straight away when I heard the Mad Dogs and Englishman album and all the stuff he'd done since...thank you, Leon. Thank you.

  • This emotional clip says as much about Sir Elton as it does Leon. We are all quite blessed to live in a world with these two great men.

  • Thanks for posting this, I am so glad I got to see Leon accept this long overdue place in music history. He is such the Master of Space and Time, I have been listening to him since I was 14; he is such a joy to watch, he inspires me so much I don't know where he gets his energy, he is still touring for pete's sake!! I

  • Been married to Debby since 1974 and Leon has been a part of our music library everyday. We love Leon and listen to him all the time. See him in small clubs in Phoenix, saw him with elton, and will be seeing him again in May at the celebrity theater. This guy is great. You can't depend on classic rock stations to provide us with the best music, just the same old music.

  • @dbacksmark Leon Russell @The Rhythm Room this Tuesday,Oct. 18th.

  • I'm a new Leon Russell fan and I was just wondering if someone with a bit more knowledge regarding his music could tell me the names of the various songs featured in it. I would appreciate it greatly!

  • @DreamKing117 It's more like who HASN'T he played with. Just listen to the list that Elton reads off for a start, then go get yourself these albums "Mad Dogs and Englishman", Carny" , The Concert for Bangladesh" and " Leon Live", listen to 'em then look him up on Google or whatever and that should give you some idea of just what a true legend he is. Delta Lady...A Song for You....Tightrope..Superstar...just a few of his songs that he wrote and have become classics...check him out, okay?

  • @maxeythecat

Sorry I wasn't a bit more clear in my message. I meant what songs are featured in the intro video they show in his induction. And I actually have listened to a lot of the stuff you have mentioned and I really like it! So at least that's something. I really do enjoy his music. It's a pity he is not given the attention he deserves.

  • Elton John creeps me out.

  • @Greenvegan828

In this clip, Elton John was nothing but sincere and overcome with love for his musical idol...if that "creeps you out", well, you can fuck right off. Seriously...delete your comment, and fuck off.

  • @garethac81 You read my reply. EAT SHIT ASSHOLE.

  • loved u always, leon, i still have my okie accent, too. we love you , mr. leon russell, so happy , should have been there n 70s

  • The only left to say is what an incredible man Elton John is for bringing Leon back to us.

  • When he sang Song For You, it almost seemed as if he was singing it for Elton, which made it very special.

  • what a talent,, my brother and i love his music and the way he can adapt to any music that he has chose to preform,,dont know why he hadnt had more air time on the radio these days but with youtube who needs it. IM DEF> A LEON LIFER

  • So happy to see the ceremony. There will never be anyone quite like the Master of Space and Time...I love the 'highway of life' comment, so humble, the Master.

  • Beautiful tribute, heartfelt...loved it!!

  • omg EJ was so emotional......

  • I've loved Leon forever-there's no end in sight and I couldn't be happier about it! Congratulations on a long overdue show of the respect that the Master of Space and Time so richly deserves.

  • That's one DAMN epic beard.

  • God bless you, Leon and Elton......You've both made life worth living all these years, and we love you dearly.....I saw your show last year in Asheville, and it just doesn't get any better.....Come on back any old time!

  • Is the whole performance from the ending available?

  • To be so talented and to essentially be a forgotten man must have extremely difficult to bear. Welcome back Leon.

  • Mo thanks for your text - I was out roaming around that night and I missed it. SO happy for Leon, but mostly Jan really. LONG over due

  • Why isn't this picked up by a major network or at least VH1? Why aren't ALL of the performances aired? Why can't we get this on DVD? Or can we? I don't understand why this isn't as big as the Grammys.

  • i love elton john! <3

  • He's hard to watch because of his faces, but his playing is great. I don't have that same problem with SRV or Clapton.

  • @Riv66 SRV pulled the sexiest faces when playing! This video aint so bad for Johns funny faces

  • @daliksheppy You need to check out Jonny Lang when he plays. haha

  • What I Think Was Up with The Head shakin, i think, Was She Was Amazed or Never Realized How Many Records He was On!!

  • @revolvertonyd Okay hummmm

  • @revolvertonyd I certainly didn't and I normally think I'm pretty up on things like that.

  • John Mayer is one of those rare talents that when he plays, I have to close my eyes and listen to him - because I can't stand watching him.

  • @Riv66 You can't stand watching because he pulls funny faces? or because his guitar makes such a sound it's almost hypnotising?

  • am i the only one to notice that

  • 1:55 whats up with her shaking her head no????

  • Holy God. What an amazing event. Not a dry eye in the house.

  • I can say without reservation that Leon Russell changed my life! .A rocker at the time, Hank Wilsons Back introduced me to true country music and taught me that it was music of the people too. I'm forever grateful.

I love you Leon, RRHOF got this one right but way too late!

  • Elton, thank you for acknowledging Delaney Bramlett as how you met him.

I agree. I was totally listening to Leon as well. He's an awesome musician!

  • @BulletForJoey good for you

  • @TheLonesomeChef good for me

  • LEON RUSSELL's Far to cool to ever die!! Hes sang and played to me almost my whole life!! Since I was about 13-14 years old, im now pushing 60 pretty hard.

  • All my life. Thank you, sir.

  • Awesome, thanks for posting this.. About time..

  • Today I read an article that Elton will be hosting SNL in a couple weeks... There were so many hate comments... like Elton is "freak", "pervert", etc. That makes me sad and angry because this is a man who cares so much about other people and causes. He had the power to bring Leon back in the lime light, and he did it in less than a year! He raises millions of money for AIDS. He is a true legend. Yet ignorant people continue to condemn him just because he happens to be gay. What a shame.

  • @LAtvFan could you please give me link to that info? im from foreign country and cant watch SNL ... so id love to track it down and download it later...:) send me a message pls :))

  • Leon's speech was incredibly touching. Thank you for uploading this! Let's hope Elton and Leon will do another collaboration album soon.

  • How beautiful, and what a gentleman Mr. Russell is. Thanks for the years of wonderful music. His career has been a wonder and it's so good to hear from him again thanks to Elton. Thanks for posting.

  • thanks so much for posting this revolvertonyd!

  • Thank you Leon for your musical genius and your beautiful music. I have loved your music for over 40 yrs and I will continue to appreciate it. Congratulations for getting inducted into the RRHOF. It was long overdue and well deserved!

  • It's about time!! Congratulations Leon! See you in Boulder soon! xoxoxo

  • Congratulations Leon!

  • Leon, so many of us have ALWAYS loved you and your music. Sad you didn't always know that. My favorite song, Back To The Island, ever since it came out.

  • A long-owed debt of gratitude is paid to one of our proudest representatives. Tulsa loves you. Thank you Elton, thank you R and R Hall of Fame. Thank you Leon. See you in April?

  • I pray that this historic induction will be merely "Brick Numero Uno" in what will hopefully become the LEON RUSSELL WING in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Let's all keep pushing for induction NUMBER TWO!

  • Leon i hope you realize how very gifted God graced you.............for those of us who have loved you for so long knew it........it is beautiful to see you get some of the recognition you so well deserve. LOVE YOU and thankfully elton felt the same way,

leon, your music has been a very important part of my life, thank you for being there

  • So very well deserved. I just can't believe it took so long for him to be inducted.

  • God bless the Elton John for finally seeing that this honor was given to a good Oklahoman who deserved it so long ago.

  • Wonderful, just wonderful ... thank you - THANK YOU!!!

  • It's just amazing that it took so long for this to happen. Leon has done SO MUCH for the world of music, especially rock 'n roll. But, better late than never. Congratulations, Leon! We love you.

  • Great

  • Gratitude!

  • God Bless Elton John!

  • A wrong finally righted. He is so important to the history of music, and an awesome performer, writer and human being. Love, love, love Leon.

  • I recognized his music right away, it's a pity I never knew his name but that has been set right now. Thanks for uploading
