Hey! I learned in class that gamja is also the part of the pork that you cook for the stew. Not sure if it is the neck bone, or knuckle, but there you have it!
Sister, May i call you this. I really really like all your food. Very easy to follow and make specially very YUMMY! Thank you Sister for all your foods on YouTube also your Website. You are the best! Maangchi is the best housewife. :)
I just tried this recipe...my husband and I loved it! I realized later in that I didn't have hot pepper flakes, so I just substituted with hot chilli flakes...not sure if it made a difference. I'll try it with the hot pepper flakes next time :)...The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that it ended up not having as much sauce as I'm used to...so next time I might add 11 cups instead of 10 :)....thanks maangchi you're the best!!!
maangchi ajumma i cooked this for my parents and they loved loved loved it! They usually don't even like gamjatang but this recipe is THE BEST recipe in the world!! :) Thank you. (I'm making gamjatang and dakgangjung for today's dinner!)
Didn't use this recipe but just made a pork bone soup, a giant pot of it. Left the pork bone with meat on it in water on simmer over night, then bought a bunch of veggies to put in it today. The usual soup essentials including potatoes, carrots, celery, green/white onions, tons of garlic, ginger, squash and some red hot peppers. Then topped it up with some more pork from original roast. Not your recipe but I used video to get some ideas. First soup I've made other then chunky, so should be good!
I'm living in Seoul for a year (Huam-dong specifically). I just found a restaurant about 2 minutes walk from my apartment that serves a giant bowl of amazing gamjatang for 6,000 won. You can't beat it! I've eaten there 3 times in the last 2 weeks. I'm going again in 2 days! I like tossing a few chopped jalapeno peppers in the soup -- seeds and all!
Maangchi, my husband love it! He ate two large bowl of rice with it. His only complaint is that it not spicy enough. Since we still have some left over soup, what can I do to make it more spicy? Oh and I love garlic, can I add more garlic when I warm it up on the stove top?
@Maangchi Where i can eat gamjatang in japan ? if possible the most close place to suzuka or at least where in japan close to my area i can find all these ingredients like the pork neck oh and another thing that hot pepper sauce is the same used in bibimbap Oh and Korean food is Amazing !!! i eat bibimbap almost every week :D
@lllovetocook I think Chinese is more complicated in the technical side like make dumplings , the spring rolls ,but in my rank Koreans are second the hard thing about korean food is it takes a lot of ingredients !!! but its the same for some chinese foods like the bowls... :D in taste i dont know i love Korean and chinese food !!! :D
thank you so much :) Finally, I found the korean supermarket at my living area, I was so happy for bought all I need. I cant wait for try to make that pork bone soup and the kimchi. ( I could not find sweet rice flour before )...hehe...but i got it now :)
I love your website so much....thanks Maangchi
by the way...my son love dangmyeon (sweet potato noodle) I bought at that supermarket also, but I could not find the video in your website for about that and ..actually, I dont know how to cook :(
@Becca93814 yeah check out my japchae video that calls of dangmyeon (glass noodles or starch noodles). Visit my website and find japchae recipe. Let me know how your Korean cooking goes. Happy cooking!
I love korean food very much and my hubby too. But he doesn't like spice, and he loves pork bone soup very (if not spice). So, is any sauce can instead of hot powder?
This is my mother's favorite dish, so I am looking forward to making it for her one day! (: I love your channel so much ~ I will be a frequent viewer when I stay in Korea!
@qpwoeiru83 me too thinking of trying to cook the korean way! they have nice pork dishes and they use lots of vegetables too. Love the spicy flavour too. :)
@qpwoeiru83 me too thinking of trying to cook the korean way! they have nice dishes and they use lots of vegetables too. Love the spicy flavour too. :)
@MultiViktorias good question! Check the ingredients section on my website. I posted the photos of perilla seeds powder and perilla leaves. Perilla seeds powder is called deulkkaegaru in Korean. You can replace it with roasted sesame seeds powder. And perilla leaf is called kkaennip. I posted kkaennip kimchi and kkaennip pickle recipes. The leaves are used in many kinds of Korean cuisine. Some of my readers grow the leaves. You can check their story by visiting forum on my website, too.
i really want to try this recipe, but can i just substitute the pork bone with other bones, because we muslims cannot eat pork??...is there any replacement for cooking wine??
I can't find pork bones locally! Can I use bone-in pork spare ribs? It seems like less bone and more meat, but it's all I can come up with. Looks awesome!
This is a perfect recipe for the chilly months..like right now! I am definitely going to make this one. Thanks for sharing. Keep these recipes coming. You are a wonderful cook/chef.
@Football10Fan yay, you left a comment here! Stir-fried rice with shrimp? Check my kimchi stir-fried rice recipe on my website. I did not make a video for it though. You can add some shrimp to the recipe. And I have never heard about curry pork cutlet. My pork cutlet recipe will be posted someday in the future. Focus on pork bone soup now. : )
@Maangchi Thank you. I will add the shrimp in the kimchi stir-fried rice, sounds good. I think must have invented the curry pork cutlet recently in Korea. I would always visit a 김밥 나라 restaurant near a university I attended in Korea. I hope to see the pork cutlet video soon in the future. Thank you for these videos, I can't wait to start cooking these. I miss Korean food so much!
just to tell you i learn this few months ago that gam ja in gam ja tang isn't potato the part of the meat was called gam ja... i am not sure but i saw it on TV
i need to make that! it looks so delicious. However, I have been feeding my dogs pork neck bones (they love it) now i will have to get in the mindset that it is for adults too. thanks
@ji94552 yes, it is! Hae jang gook is soup for hangover. There are many kinds of hangover soup depending on what ingredients are used. My soybean sprout soup is also used for hangover cure. : ) I will post another hangover soup recipe in the future.
you are the best! I love your videos. I have two different soy bean pastes at home. Can I use the Japanese miso paste for this dish? I also bought the darker color soy paste. Where can I use that for? Can I use something to replace Perilla seed powders?
just want to let all your viewers know, gamja means potato, but real meaning of gamja is the meat in between the pork neckbone, this dish traditional folk, sould food for koreans.
This is so hard to make, I will really have to buckle down to make it. Mostly we just get it in restaurants because my family is so lazy haha. Anyway, it looks super delish!!!
Thank you so much for posting this recipe! When I worked in Ulsan we used to have gamjatang every day for lunch in the restaurant beneath the hogwan we worked in. It is my favourite Korean food! I have looked for five years for a good recipe, and I am so happy to have one! Thank you!
you know what? They never actually serve gam ja tang with potatoes in it in restaurants! like it has the word GAM JA in it for a reasonnn! thats why I prefer it homemade :) not those half assed ripoffs from restaurants
check my bulgogi stew recipe please. The ratio of ingredients for marinade can be used for LA style beef ribs. I will post the recipe someday. Thank you!
Im sorry to hear that, but im sure she passed along her knowledge to you. I showed your videos to my umma and we're making soon du bu tomorrow using your recipe! wish me luck!
h! maangchi i jst cook a gamjatang tnyt and OMG was soo good....i follow the recipe but i dnt have the parilla seed powder and the leaves but it s still good..thank you so much
hey thanks for recipe, right now i am traveling in Korea, and really want to try it when i go back cuz it was so delicious :) what's the name in korean soy bean paste, hot pepper flakes and hot pepper paste?
soybean paste is "doenjaang" in Korean. hot pepper paste is "gochoojaang" in Korean, hot pepper flakes is "gochoogaroo".
Yeah, good idea of bringing some Korean ingredients home so that you can cook. Take advantage of being in Korea because all the ingredients are better and cheaper there. Dried anchovies (called "myulchi") and seaweed (looking like black paper called "kim"), too.
You can skip perilla leaves. Check the forum on my website. Some people from Holland have been cooking Korean food following my recipes. You may get some good information from them regarding Korean ingredients.
Great, great video. Looks exactly like when I buy it! I have a question- I am Vietnamese and just LOVE Korean soups and there is this one soup that is basically hot and spicy similar to the soup you just made, but all it has in it are all kinds of different slices of meat, pork, and innards. My best guess is that they are pig ears, intestines, liver, beef tongue, heart, pork belly etc... It is served with rice and kimchee on the side. Do you have any idea what this soup is called?
I don't know what it is. Why don't you leave your question on the forum on my website. Maybe someone else give you answer. Check the general discussion part on the forum. Thank you for your interest in my recipes1

They never actually serve gam ja tang with potatoes in it in restaurants! like it has the word GAM JA in it for a reasonnn! thats why I prefer it homemade :) not those half assed ripoffs from restaurants

hey thanks for recipe, right now i am traveling in Korea, and really want to try it when i go back cuz it was so delicious :) what's the name in korean soy bean paste, hot pepper flakes and hot pepper paste?
starmoon937 2 years ago
soybean paste is "doenjaang" in Korean. hot pepper paste is "gochoojaang" in Korean, hot pepper flakes is "gochoogaroo".
Yeah, good idea of bringing some Korean ingredients home so that you can cook. Take advantage of being in Korea because all the ingredients are better and cheaper there. Dried anchovies (called "myulchi") and seaweed (looking like black paper called "kim"), too.
Enjoy your travel and shopping!

i would love to try this dish but i don´t know where to get perilla leaves( and powder) here in holland
sinnerinheaven82 2 years ago

TamProductions 2 years ago
I don't know what it is. Why don't you leave your question on the forum on my website. Maybe someone else give you answer. Check the general discussion part on the forum. Thank you for your interest in my recipes1
