killing the baby girl was sad its a wee shame i wish he didnea kill her vote this up if u think the baby should not have been murderd alexander should have been sentenced to death but im wif the scots
@SuperMidgetinaBikini Yeah, even the Bruce brothers did more than Wallace. But he is possibly the best national hero because he was the one who stood up for Scotland when it had no King, and the only reason Scotland survived was because Wallace and a few thousand highlanders fought the English and some of the English French lords, while all the Scottish Nobles kicked the head of each other safe behind the highlands.
@Katazka Well, that kind of overlooks the whole issue of the Comyn's covert support for the exiled Balliol's and backing of the major uprisings against Longshanks prior to the Red Comyn's death at Dumfries, and kind of ignores Andrew de Moray who was more successful that Wallace when he was alive and arguably the man who planned the battle of Stirling Bridge - but apart from them Wallace was the leader of the anti-English pro-Scottish-independence faction prior to the Bruce's rise to power.
@11nytram11 Obviously there were others, no doubt, who made the fight victorious. Wallace certainly would not have won by himself. But I dont think that Scotland would have won without Wallace. He was a charismatic leader that inspired the Scots and scared the shit from the English. His legend probably did more for Scotland than any one man.
@Infesturmind No, hundreds of babies might have been killed. Just because someone could claim the throne didnt mean that they would or would have been supported.
I resent historians like Oliver teaching us a totally false history. They have distorted the facts and in many cases telling downright lies. David I is lauded as the man who "effectively created the kingdom of Scotland as we would now recognise it", when in truth it was the policy of David I which led to the Culdee Church lying in ruins and replaced by Latin christianity, until that Antichrist Kirk was replaced by a man named Knox, "modern Scotland is his monument"!
Many people seem to have "selected" sadness. Yes, the baby being killed was terrible, but how many abortions take place every year in Britain? How many innocent women and children are killed every week in Afganistan and Iraq?...no one knows, and no one seems to care.
i love how people judge the societies of the past under the morals of today.... srry people it doesnt work like that... the baby was killed because of the threat to the crown she presented... horrible? yes, but if u look at any of the kings from any of the societies of that time period they have done the same or worse...
wow another blow to my view of Scotland being a race of honourable brave warriors. If it was an englishmen saying all this then it would be ok but it's a Scot...
@acerb45666555 i know they dont give any explanation on why the pope chose to back an english king when the english are protestant and the scots are catholic
@djskajanddjdod In that time all Scotland, all England, all Wales(under England) Ireland etc. (all western and Northen Europe) were Catholic - Roman Catholic.
Protestantism, Anglicanism etc. only apeared more than 300 years later in Europe as in British isles.
@chimaira6668, politically correct 'historians' like Neil Oliver never mention the fact King Robert the Bruce and all of his subjects were excommunicated for resisting the English Kings, and that the Pope was using the Normans to destroy the Gaelic [Culdee] Church all along. Same happened in Ireland. A look at true history shows "warrior Bishops" [Roman] like the Manx Bishop Wimund and even William the Conqueror's brother Odo, was a Roman Bishop and led a Norman army into Scotland in 1072.
@Madcronic01 dynastic struggles, more like. Freedom has little to do with it. It's all about power, and you grab it as ruthlessly as you can. Everything else is just myth-making.
Can we trust Lanercost (a rabid, anti-Scottish source) about the killing of the baby? Not that it isn't plausible, but that chronicle was not always correct.
Ruthless ruthless ? madman more like push the limits on that one the killing of any child to prove points is insanity..erms...

Killing a single baby to spare a potential future civil war is actually the ethical decision. One death to stop many more.
