Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
At that time Black artist were allowed to perform their songs on television. But it was very rare, almost unheard of to have Blacks in the audience or used as back-up dancers.
zzzxtreme, i dont know if this was segregated but i do know. that aretha once said in the 70's when she was going to do a performance in south africa, that either the crowd be intergrated, or fully black as she wont sing to a fully white crowd, as her people should be able to come to hear her sing. aretha was an activist in her own small way.
She sounds amazing. This must have been when she was on Columbia Records in the early 60's. It seemed like they were trying to turn her into a Dionne Warwick type.
The b-side of this record, "One Step Ahead" eventually made the R&B top 20 in the spring of 1965. This was a nice cover of Baby Washington's original.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this great posting. Do you know the name of the album this song is from? It's weird that this song and "One Step Ahead" are great songs from the Columbia years, but I can't find them anywhere.
I associate this song with Baby Washington. Didn't hear Aretha's version until about twenty years ago. A pleasant surprise. Love both versions.

This is unusual, rare footage. It's very early in her adult career. The song is obscure, but it's sung with such beauty.
