  • and carrie's dancing reminds me so much of daniel kessler

  • why the f**k is there a NOW 79 advert on this video?!

  • That lilmonstar98 guy is a troll, and not a very good nor entertaining one. I saw him post something similar on Ani DeFranco's In or Out music video.

  • This generation doesn't realize how good we've got it with music.

  • it's beautiful when a song sings to your soul, thank you.

  • Why do I keep discovering amazing bands that have already broken up?

  • @RoundWounds who else have you found that no longer exists? sucks, but at least you found it

  • @jnestor71 Completely different style of music, but I found Fall of Troy as they announced their farewell. I didn't start listening to System of a Down until they went on hiatus. Those are the first two to come to mind, although SOAD has been talking about getting back together.

  • You know..she could have just used the front door if she wanted to leave so bad.

  • I miss Sleater-Kinney. They played their last show here and I missed it. Here's hoping to a reunion.

  • Cacao.

  • @Black14th good one

  • put a bird on it

  • Used to listen to sleater back in the day... now I watch portlandia and only now with the visual of the video do I realize the connection.

  • This IS fucking awesome.

  • This is a cool video, but it would have made a bigger impact if the girl took an actual header off the Golden Gate. The song is so dark and moody, but the video is kind of cute, with the girl flying and all. Doesn't seem to match the song, but what do I know, I didn't write it!

  • @johnnykaka66 I don't think they would actually allow them to film on the bridge because in the Bay Area the suicides that occur on the Golden Gate Bridge is a sensitive topic, or so I've read. This song was actually based off an article title "Jumpers" in the New Yorker. (That's where I read it from, in case you were wondering.)

  • What a kickass song. I have listened to it like 1000 times over and it still rocks. Carrie is an incredible guitarist.

  • Wow, I just checked out this band for the very first time here. Never heard of them. Maybe 'cause I'm 53 yrs old and don't listen to as much new stuff as I did in the past. Anyway, I love the sound and Carrie Brownstein hit me like a ton of bricks. She has a real classic rock presence and she's a turn on the way she brandishes that ax. She's fresh, unaffected and sexy as hell. By sexy I mean, the usual plus, full of life and power. That's rock and roll as it's meant to be, sweetheart!

  • @changing3 Ah, dude, Sleater-Kinney disbanded in 2006 ... five years ago. They ran from 1994 til then. You need to get out of that "I'm a certain age so I don't have open ears for the 'new' music rut." You missed this one by more than a decade already.

Here are some musicians you should be hearing now: Ray LeMontagne, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens, Amos Lee, Avett Brothers, Railroad Earth ... well, start there.

I'm 47 years old, but I never stopped listening to hungry bands who make new sound.

  • PORTLANDI.A

  • fantastico saludos desde Lima Peru

  • She was so pretty. Why did she have to go and die?

  • she sings pretty high

  • I think that gal who builds that butterfly contraption is in the Portlandia Dreaming of the 90's video too.

  • The young lady who played the office worker looks like Hayley Kiyoko, who would play Velma Dinkley in the "Scooby Doo" telefilm series.

  • Jealousy and pettiness destroy most bands.

  • thank you the L word for knowing this

  • I grew up and still live in Lacey and Olympia, Washington. :) This band is great~

  • @sixOclockAutoGyro my sentiments exactly!

  • Wow. This song is so good.

  • I saw them on every tour they did and there is not another guitarist I would rather watch than Carrie Brownstein...her exuberance and style were second to none!!!

  • L WORD! :D

  • @QuamAmoena totally thanks to it! =p

  • This song makes everything okay.

  • This band is classified as "punk"? (and other generes) wow. Punks pretty crappy now days.

  • @dkamp4338 Listen to their first album. Much more punk.

  • i love this song.

  • "Lonely as a cloud

    In the Golden State

"The coldest winter that I ever saw

Was the summer that I spent...""

    <3

  • i like pale girls with guitars

  • My copy of The Woods sounds like it's had staples and rusty nails dragged across it,anyone else..or is it just the guitar fx?

  • They look like a bunch of fun girls!

  • Riot grrl band from Olympia filming a video in Portland for a song about the Bay Area. Could it follow my life trajectory a little more closely? Jeez. So very much my jam.

  • I can't tell if these comments are ironic or not anymore

  • OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH YEEEAAAAAAAAHHH...........

  • great video for a great song

  • aw I love sleater kinney

i will forever regret not seeing them when i had the chance

  • I've loved this girlssss

  • wish i could fly away from work sometimes..

  • @kingny17 i have a certain respect for lady gaga, yeah-- but she ain't punk. look up beth ditto from "Gossip"-- especially their official music video for "pop goes the world". THAT chick is punk; she is, in my opinion, what stefani germanotta tries to be with the personage of lady gaga.

  • I knew this song was about suicide, but I just listened to it again after coming back from San Francisco and finally caught all of the references. It's specifically about jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

    Sleater Kinney rocks...

"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. "

    ~Attributed to Mark Twain

There's a movie called "The Bridge" that deals with this subject.

  • why all the videos discussions have some idiot that compares the band to lady gaga??

oh no, give me a break!!!!!!

these girls make their music and they play, it is not commercial music, it is not something that uses extravagance only to sell, it uses creativity!

  • The girl is so adorable. Cute video to what can be seen as a depressing song. Ohh I love them. <3

  • I LOVE Sleeter-Kinney!

    <3

  • @lilmonstar98 you're a total idiot. how does any of this add up to wanting to "be lady gaga"?

  • Amazing!

  • The girl in this video looks like Velma from Scooby Doo :)

  • Bikini Kill would be proud

  • Another song that reminds me of Shane from TLW!

  • i remember making my own "show me your riffs" shirt when i was like 13...thank you sleater kinney for giving me a soundtrack to my teen years.and inspiring me to pick up an electric guitar and grind my heart out.

  • @lilmonstar98 sleater-kinney has been around since 1994, besides the only similarity between them and lady gaga is gender.

  • @bigmeateaterr i know right! where in the world did she get lady gaga? you cant even compare the two....riot grrl/crappy pop.....not at all in the same universe...lady gaga is a cheesy gimmick.

  • @lilmonstar98 pointing out that the only similarity i see between the two (gender) isn't sexist at all. any good artist should at the very least do something "'symbolic' or whatever", so i don't see how that vague similarity counts. plus, you're still overlooking the fact that this band broke up before lady gaga even came out with her first record, so how could they be ripping off an artist that didn't even exist yet?

  • @bigmeateaterr

little known fact: sonic youth is really a rihanna rip-off.

also the rolling stones are totally biting adam lamberts style! like omg, that's so wack. it's obvious that mick jagger totally wants to be lambo!

  • @bigmeateaterr You're totally right, but you missed the greatest fact. Comparing to this, Lady Gaga sucks SOO much deck on feckin ice...besides, you're right I totally agree :D

  • @lilmonstar98 were you BORN in 98? GaGa is ok - as in ok, I like her and all....but Sleater Kinney have been around since at least 1995 making some wicked independent rock, and when did Gaga first pop up? 2007? And in terms of GaGa's symbolism n style; it's mostly jacked from artists like MIA, Queen (check out some of their early-80s era costumes + sounds), and oh yeah Madonna =p....who are all artists that i would think of as kinda, well, totally fucking different from Sleater Kinney.

  • @lilmonstar98 .. Sleater-kinney came out in '94! Back in '94 lady GAGa must have been around seven years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lilmonstar98 Tell me, is complete and utter ignorance truly bliss?

  • Comment removed

  • @lilmonstar98

Are we listening to the same band? Gaga is great, and Sleater-Kinney is amazing. But they're soo different. Not even the same genre. Not to mention none of these girls dress anything like Gaga. Unless you're saying being weird and different is ripping off Gaga, and if so you need to brush up on the history of music.

  • @lilmonstar98 Uh... What everyone else has already said about this band breaking up before Lady Gaga even came out with her first record. And I'm not saying Lady Gaga ripped off them, cuz she didn't, but you need to learn your music history. Also, Lady Gaga doesn't have a single punk bone in her skinny, bleach-blonde body.

  • @kingny17 Creative? sure. DIY? sure. Punk? maybe. I was mostly referring to musically... Her songs are all autotuned techno-pop. But at least she writes them herself.

  • @kingny17 hahaha punk definitely not !!! in need of attention, yes!! and please don't compare Bjork to that piece of......

  • Sleater-Kinney is awesome! I saw them in '05 with The White Stripes at the Gorge. They R-O-C-K!!!

  • such a great ass song.

  • If this recording is this bad, i can't imagine how off key they are live. Aghhhh.

  • Sleater Kinney is so impressive...and so unappreciated by the masses its a crime. and yeah, it fuckin rocks better than anything since Nirvana.

  • anyone have tabs for this song? I suck at guitar so I need tabs, plus I heard that Carrie tunes to C# and the only tabs on ultimate-guitar are seriously fail.

  • 4sum ladies?

  • that girl is so damn cutee

i just wanna kiss her on the cheek <3

  • nerdy chicks make me hot.

  • is that sara??!?!?!?

  • They were so amazing! This song still gives me good feelings all over :)

  • @TheJohnux Good feelings about a song that discusses the fact that the Golden Gate Bridge has the highest instance of suicide out of all bridges in the states?

  • @Careylsperl Incredibly good feelings. It's passionate.

  • wow this band fucking rocks

  • The band is broken up. I live in Portland and know them (:

  • @AquaBabeful y the stop

  • @kaykay09100 The Lead Vocalist Carrie Was getting Annoyed by Corren..

  • @AquaBabeful Corrine was the lead vocalist; Carrie was very shy about singing for the most part.

  • Carrie's modified Dave Matthews shuffle is too cute.

  • @8FtSpider She is too cute, I love it :)

  • I heard about this band years ago. There was a write-up on them in a national australian paper. I had never heard their music until now, however. Wow, my loss. This is some fantastic music.

  • i love it!!!

  • i love this song!!!

i've just find out this grou, but i'm already a fan!!!

    long life to punk women!!!

  • never too loud, baby!

  • This, is fucking awesome.

  • fantastic shit...real rock n rolll

  • Love this song!!

  • I wanna Do That!

  • I love Sleater Kinney but why did they have to mix this record so loud? The songs would sound so much better

  • I noticed that, yes the album is mixed a little loud in some areas.

  • duas guitarras, vocais duplos, riff espetacular, magnífico SLEATER, magnífico!!!!!!!

  • don't push me I am not okay...

  • One of the best music videos ever.

  • Kinney!! ....We Love You!!!!

  • Sleater-Kinney is too amazing.

  • They are fucking awesome!

  • Cool Song!

  • Without a doubt, one of the best bands in the world. We at The Girls Are a little obsessed....

  • Sleater Kinney kick ass. Best song to rock out with your loved one to.

  • This song is about people committing suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate bridge.

  • Really? I have heard about the documentary made, but I have never seen it. Thanks for the data point! :)

  • Best band of the past 10 years

  • Comment removed

  • uuuuum, no.

  • the song is about the straight and narrow and how the daily life makes you want to get away...."4 seconds is the logest time!!"

  • It's about jumping off a bridge, probably the Golden Gate. It takes 4 seconds to hit the water and die.

"My falling shape will draw a line

Between the blue of sea and sky"

  • the drumming is great find out about these on the L WORD JUST GREAT

  • ah no bass =/

i love me some bass haha

  • i like the message behind the video .. amazing song.

  • You like the message of depression and suicide? I mean, it's a great song, but "the message"? C'mon...

  • okay, I expressed it the wrong way. I mean how they convey the meaning. The expression.

  • Love how you had to explain that.

  • my pleasure..

  • one of my favorite songs ever!!!!!weird vid tho.

  • I dicovered these on L word and now I love them!! Such a dictinct sound, fuckin' awesome!!

  • the drummer is awsome.

  • Greatest band of . . . well, of something--1996-2006? girl band? alt rock band? oh hell, something. They rock. Hope they get back together. Seriously, all of their albums are at least very good; some, like The Woods, are great!

  • LOL seriously guys? v

  • I discovered that song watchin the L word like many folks and now i'm like an addict.

    They definitely kill that shit!!

    Goooooooo Gurrrrrrrrlzzzzz!!!!!!!!

  • :O When was this in the L word? wait...did Sleater Kinney play it when they all went to see them?

  • they played it in the third season at "the planet"...

Great episode by the way... But sad in the end...

    Peace homie!

  • Yup, Season 3 - Episode 6

  • season 3 episode 6. Just at the end, they performed at the planet.

  • carrie brownstien is the coolest looking person with a guitar, COOLEST!!!. angus young was always number one until i got in to sleater and started watching her play(which is amazing btw!!!) but her swagger and movements with the guitar is amazing...HYPNOTIZING!!!

  • I'm sorry, but this album was ruined by the 'added' distortion. SK don't need added distortion... they're one of the hardest rocking bands of all time.

  • Eh. To each their own. I thought their last album was awesome in almost every aspect. Including added distortion. It's different, but still great.

  • I saw them on The L Word and they rocked so much! <3

  • Oh yeah ! =D

And Shane like too ! =P

It's thanks to the L word that I know this band, it's great ! Is the other song good too ?

Sorry for my bad english, I'm french.

  • You should check out their other songs too, if you like this song and this type of music :P

Shane likes them, so you better check them out :D

  • Ok I will ! ;)

    Thank you ! ^^

  • Janet Weiss always looks like a badass when drumming and/or she's having the most fun in the world.

  • This riff was written by radiohead in 1993 or so. "Blow Out"?

  • blow urself

  • There's a ST called Sleater-Kinney in Olympia WA.

Are the band members from there?

    BTW great Video!

  • nah, Sleater-Kinney Rd is where they practiced, I believe they did live in Olympia before moving to Portland

  • Their original recording studio was on that street.

  • This song is about Man's inhumanity against man.

  • Saw 'em on "The L word" and just had to look them up =)

  • These guys are awesome! o:

  • Shari Bricker taught Janet Weise how to druuuummmm.

    Wow what a teacher!!!

Julie Weise is Shari's best bud.

  • I miss Sleater-Kinney... they were really something special.
