Stumbled onto this video on my way to a Disturbed song. Now I'm afraid I'll have to start wearing cardigans! And smoking cloves!! Arg, and pretentiously spouting Sylvia Plath!!! NOOO! I don't want to wear khaki slacks with a pair of sensible shoes!!Wait, hold on a sec... great. Now I'm getting spam from Lillith Fair. Thank God, there's Motorhead! Goodbyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
This is a cool video, but it would have made a bigger impact if the girl took an actual header off the Golden Gate. The song is so dark and moody, but the video is kind of cute, with the girl flying and all. Doesn't seem to match the song, but what do I know, I didn't write it!
@johnnykaka66 I don't think they would actually allow them to film on the bridge because in the Bay Area the suicides that occur on the Golden Gate Bridge is a sensitive topic, or so I've read. This song was actually based off an article title "Jumpers" in the New Yorker. (That's where I read it from, in case you were wondering.)
Wow, I just checked out this band for the very first time here. Never heard of them. Maybe 'cause I'm 53 yrs old and don't listen to as much new stuff as I did in the past. Anyway, I love the sound and Carrie Brownstein hit me like a ton of bricks. She has a real classic rock presence and she's a turn on the way she brandishes that ax. She's fresh, unaffected and sexy as hell. By sexy I mean, the usual plus, full of life and power. That's rock and roll as it's meant to be, sweetheart!
@changing3 Ah, dude, Sleater-Kinney disbanded in 2006 ... five years ago. They ran from 1994 til then. You need to get out of that "I'm a certain age so I don't have open ears for the 'new' music rut." You missed this one by more than a decade already.
Here are some musicians you should be hearing now: Ray LeMontagne, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens, Amos Lee, Avett Brothers, Railroad Earth ... well, start there.
I'm 47 years old, but I never stopped listening to hungry bands who make new sound.
I saw them on every tour they did and there is not another guitarist I would rather watch than Carrie Brownstein...her exuberance and style were second to none!!!
Riot grrl band from Olympia filming a video in Portland for a song about the Bay Area. Could it follow my life trajectory a little more closely? Jeez. So very much my jam.
@kingny17 i have a certain respect for lady gaga, yeah-- but she ain't punk. look up beth ditto from "Gossip"-- especially their official music video for "pop goes the world". THAT chick is punk; she is, in my opinion, what stefani germanotta tries to be with the personage of lady gaga.
I knew this song was about suicide, but I just listened to it again after coming back from San Francisco and finally caught all of the references. It's specifically about jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Sleater Kinney rocks...

@bigmeateaterr i know right! where in the world did she get lady gaga? you cant even compare the two....riot grrl/crappy pop.....not at all in the same universe...lady gaga is a cheesy gimmick.
that's kind of sexist of you, i mean i did say "girls" but i wasn't even thinking about their sex being that important, i was talking about how they try to do something "symbolic" or whatever and it's kind of obvious that they just want to be her.
@lilmonstar98 pointing out that the only similarity i see between the two (gender) isn't sexist at all. any good artist should at the very least do something "'symbolic' or whatever", so i don't see how that vague similarity counts. plus, you're still overlooking the fact that this band broke up before lady gaga even came out with her first record, so how could they be ripping off an artist that didn't even exist yet?
@bigmeateaterr You're totally right, but you missed the greatest fact. Comparing to this, Lady Gaga sucks SOO much deck on feckin ice...besides, you're right I totally agree :D
@lilmonstar98 were you BORN in 98? GaGa is ok - as in ok, I like her and all....but Sleater Kinney have been around since at least 1995 making some wicked independent rock, and when did Gaga first pop up? 2007? And in terms of GaGa's symbolism n style; it's mostly jacked from artists like MIA, Queen (check out some of their early-80s era costumes + sounds), and oh yeah Madonna =p....who are all artists that i would think of as kinda, well, totally fucking different from Sleater Kinney.
Are we listening to the same band? Gaga is great, and Sleater-Kinney is amazing. But they're soo different. Not even the same genre. Not to mention none of these girls dress anything like Gaga. Unless you're saying being weird and different is ripping off Gaga, and if so you need to brush up on the history of music.
@lilmonstar98 Uh... What everyone else has already said about this band breaking up before Lady Gaga even came out with her first record. And I'm not saying Lady Gaga ripped off them, cuz she didn't, but you need to learn your music history. Also, Lady Gaga doesn't have a single punk bone in her skinny, bleach-blonde body.
@kingny17 Creative? sure. DIY? sure. Punk? maybe. I was mostly referring to musically... Her songs are all autotuned techno-pop. But at least she writes them herself.
i dunno, not the biggest gaga fan but she kinda does her own thing. i mean, shortie wore a meat dress. When bjork did her swan thing i'm pretty sure mad heads were jocking her for her uniqueness and artistic credibility. so as tough as it might be to admit it, gaga is slightly punk. slight-ly

Eh. To each their own. I thought their last album was awesome in almost every aspect. Including added distortion. It's different, but still great.

Janet Weiss always looks like a badass when drumming and/or she's having the most fun in the world.

There's a ST called Sleater-Kinney in Olympia WA.
Are the band members from there?
