  • i havent showerd in 3 days...

  • this is soooo cool man!!! well done!!!

  • Whoever, whatever company or persons that are raising some copyright issues about my Golion video, It's an Art piece for God Sakes. If it's so bad, then send me a fracking message. Don't pittle around with red tape. Just tell me what the problem is exactly. Everything used in the video was carefully animated, audio mixed, and or re-drawn by my self. No original footage was used. Do I not deserve an explanation for the Youtube message of possible Copyright infringement? I made no money on this.

  • Wow, good job!

  • 0:23,mechagodzilla 2's roar? I can't imagine..

  • this is voltron, why is it called go lion also?

  • Comment removed

  • @odisus69

Voltron is an edited and dubbed version of Golion. Golion is the original Japanese version of Voltron. if you have no knowledge of Golion, search "uncensored voltron".

  • Awesome!!

  • Great job!

  • very cool!

  • My go lion wont hold his sword

  • Which toys are you using for this? I never thought those things could move like that!

  • @Unicron09 ,Your right,I had to improvise for a couple scenes. I couldn't get Golion to bang his arms together once they combined. so I had to use Photoshop and After Effects to make it work. I also was only using the Toynami Voltron toy for this. I had made a custom Galra Empire fighter craft (those yellow fighters) and a miniature castle with fiber optics for a couple scenes that I never got a chance to fully use.

  • @Gorgo Cool. This was actually the first stopmotion I saw involving Golion toys. Most of 'em I've seen always involved Transformers.

  • totally awesome!!!!

  • I saw the original transformation and you got all the scenery and effects so close it's scary!

  • @jetpackman01 ,Sorry my reply is so late. Thanks. Watch the original transformation again. I noticed while doing mine, that in the original animators made a mistake with the red and green lions in flight. They're on the wrong side. So,I corrected that on the one I did.

  • @Gorgo

    OK

  • Is that the metal version?

  • Hope you going to make a inuyasha

short film stop motion toys when you have a

inuyasha toys if you have anime footage

of inuyasha. Or you going to make

Power rangers short film with the

    footage of Power rangers.

Hey guys and girls. Let's support his videos

  • Nice work

  • @hilarioph Thank you, I would like to have done more but more important "Life" issues came up. I'm glad to see this still gets views .

  • This is sick - I LOVE IT !

  • wow... I just got my voltron plastic 25th year collectors edition yesterday, and I assembled it to your video, this vid totaly rocks. faved.

  • 實在是太有才華了~用玩具慢慢弄的

  • Now I wish they would hurry up and make that live action movie that they been talking about for a couple of years now!!!

  • Now that would make an awesome toy commercial.

  • Thanks,Actually it was supposed to be one for Toynami but they never used it.

  • GREAT animation!

  • 好好正啊

  • awesome! you are very good!

  • SUPER COOL!!!

  • Awesome!

    I envy your talent.

  • cool!!

  • Thanks.

  • Nice work

  • Nice Video!

    Fortunately,I have the toy itself!

  • oh man this is coool!! all the movements, spfx and sounds give it a real retro anime feel, well done :) :)

  • i gotta say i expected some shit stop motion but this was very good lol. great vid

  • Cheesy,but cool!

  • I'm glad I have one of those!

  • There are two combiners, one is Voltron and the other is made up of planes and cars and tanks.

  • Actually, there are many combiners the Japanese Anime company "Sunrise" did. Voltron was an American made brand name. Lion Voltron was King Beast Golion. Vehicle Voltron was Dairugger XV.

World Events had planned hacking up a 3rd series for another Voltron. "Arbegus". Only the toys came here. Some combiners that never hit the shores of the U.S.: Combattler V, Voltus V, Getter Robo (limited release here),Danguard Ace There are many, many more. These ones came long before WEP's Voltron hack.

  • Done to An Expert Degree, Very Well Done

  • THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!! I can't believe how good it is - you deserve 10stars!! ...I just cannot explain how awesome this is - it's done SOOO well!!!!!!!!

  • Oh,thank you. When doing this project, I really studied the Super Robot era of Japanese Animation.1973-1983ish. I did my best to recapture

the feel of Golion. There was more I wanted to do. Other scenes I wanted to add. I just got my Special effects computer back from the East coast. So maybe I'll add those scenes finally.

I don't know if you could tell, I re animated the shot of the crew in their cockpits. When they say:let's Go-Lion !

  • That was great. How did you do that under water effect with the blue lion?

  • Thanks Alphatrikma2,It was a couple different effect plugins in Adobe After Effects. I think it was an Underwater distortion effect with a bubble plugin. Check out Gatchaman stop motion here on youtube. I used another similar effect for the God Pheonex launch.

  • great stop motion was all this made with a green screen or did some parts have dioramas

  • no green screen (chroma key).that requires proper lighting and special [colored backgrounds for that to work right.I literally had to cut each frame of motion and put them into layers in a photoshop file.

Then import in file into Adobe After Effects. It's a long process. Yes,dioramas were used for some scenes

  • very nice lol how long did it take to make the whole thing with every single step

  • its all sound effects from Mobile Suit Gundam.

  • Sorry bout the belated reply. No, these SFX are actually sampled from even older animes.

Mazinger Z,Daitarn 3,ect.(Super Robot era animes)

They all used similar SFX.I've noticed on newer animes they quit using a lot of the old style SFX. That's what gives the old mecha animes their heart, soul, and awesome cheesy-sci-fi feel.

    Know what I mean?

  • Yeah man, i can definitely understand that, thats why they seem to sound better, i mean example. Robotech Remastered, sure its visually better and has more up to date sounds ,but they got rid of some classic sounds and replaced them with newer jet sounds and weirder stuff, you jsut can't get rid of the classics, but i guess it was meant for 5.1 surroud sound and they couldn't salvage it.

  • just favorited

The golion fans are still alive!!

  • Thanks, I was an old Voltron fan as a kid but always knew something wasn't right and that they edited the F**k out of it. I was delighted when they finally released Golion with all it's dark, brutal.dramatic story in tact. Love it ! Voltron Sucks!! Golion Rocks!!

I made a Garada fighter miniature I intend to animate exploding whenever I get my special effects computer back.

  • Same happened with me.But Golion wasn`t a show for children and in USA and Europe unfortunately there is the roumor that cartons and animes are kid shows,So i understand the censhorship. But sure Golion was much better(exept the opening which rocked on VoLtron)

  • They did an even worse dubb on Mazinger Z in the 80's. It was called "Tranzor Z".

It wasn't until the age of Youtube that I learned more about the many other Super Robot animes.

I had remembered the Shogun Warriors as a kid but had never seen the Animes they had come from until just a few years ago. They are great, underappreciated in this era of CGI remakes. Seems Getter Robo,Gakeen,Combattler V,Votus V are the earliest Combine mechas before Golion.

They've re-used that formula for years!!

  • Kinda like how Robotech was a bastardized version of SDF Macross! But back the day we never knew, it had giant robots, flashing lights and monsters so we were hooked as we tried to drain our parents wallets!!

  • Actually, I recall Harmony Gold admitting right off. They explain in Robotech Art 1

how they changed Southern Cross and Mospedia more so than they did Macross.I hated how they tried to make that shitty sequel Robotech 2 the Sentenals and the 1st Robotech movie(using Megazone 23 and more Southern Cross scenes) Robotech by far is not the worst I've seen as dubbs go. An old dubbing company "3 B studios"

did some of the worst ever. Look up "Starbirds".It's a terrible dubb on General Daimos.

  • I remember Starbirds, it did have some very bad dubbing! I haven't seen that show since '78! A blast from the past!

Carl Macek joined three or four unrelated anime series to create Robotech, didn't workout so well. His idea was a good one, create a long running epic animated sci-fi series on US television, nothing like that had ever been done! I doubt we'll ever see something like that again though I wish it could be done here!

  • Yeah,to much red tape and legal crap. To bad Gundam disappeared from the afternoon lineup after 9/11. Seems Anime got dumbed down a bit. Very few mech series on T.V. I was surprised Sci-fi Channel was running Gundam 00 a month ago.I have heard rumor they are bringing Macross Frontier to the U.S. Somehow.

Wish they'd do a good Macross DYRL dubb and do Macross Zero.

  • I'm gonna bring this out right up front. The rumours are absolutely mistaken. The legal battle between Big West and Tatusnoko/Harmony Gold are alive and well. That being said, there's no way Macross F will be coming to U.S. shores under license agreement. Besides Macross F is already here...Just look at the fansubs, Ebay, the online import toy stores. That answers the 'somehow' thing. You know what I mean?

BTW, nice job with the animation. 5 stars!

    -R78

  • yeah, It sucks that it has to be that way. I would love to see Megumi Nakajima and May'n live in San Francisco. They can't keep them from playing here because of that. Leave it to Harmony Gold with the cock block. Yeah, I know what you mean.. But they brought Macross Plus and Macross 2 the movie here.

  • Yeah, if you mean ' they' as in Big West, you are right...they managed to bring Plus and 2 here as OVAs....but did they managed to bring 'the toys'?....well that's where Harmony Gold draw the line...see what I'm saying? This is a very complicated case here, b/c a reckless corp. like HG based in 'tinseltown' mind you playing w/ fire is threatening Anime.

  • This crazy case underminded Toynami from releasing Macross F & other Macross products made from Bandai under their their new partnership with Bandai HQ under the Tamashii brand. That must've where you got that rumour from. Toynami suceeded in distributing the Soul of Chogokin toys here, but not so lucky for Macross F and others.

  • BADICAL!

  • Awesome! Great animation!

  • Okay that rocked!!!! I mean you had me at the forming of Go Lion, but to see the sword done too, VERY NICE!

  • Thanks,I wanted to do him hacking off a Beastman's head.

I did do a few test scenes with a prop Garada space fighter I kit-bashed. I had planed some scenes with the lions attacking the fighters with the various blade weapons and rockets but just got as far as some flying & shooting.(I moved & don't have my computer & software I used to help make these shorts)

  • omg.. i just had a nerdgasm

  • awesome, I still have this set of toy my mom bought my 20s years ago.

  • Thanks,

This is a totally different Golion/Voltron than the one from 20 years ago. I does pose a bit more than that one. Although, I do prefer parts of the original toy. The Joulkin Sword (Blazing sword) Is a completely different sculpt and not as accurate as original toy was to the animation. I also wish it came with the Spear weapon & various other weapons the lions used on the show. I hope Bandai makes a Soul of Chogokin of this.

  • AWESOME! This reminds me alot of the old Popy commercials. You should work with Bandai doing their Soul of Chogokin commercials.

  • Thanks,That would be awesome. I would very much like to do that. (Especially with the Daitarn 3 they have coming out next year!!) I wanted to get my hands on the new General Daimos for a nice short showing off the weapons & transformation like in this short but cash is tight and I'm still not back 100% with my studio to do more. Working for Bandai would be a dream come true.

  • nice!! liked that one!

  • Thanks, Golion volume 3 is due out this week. check it out if you haven't yet.

  • THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME! 5 STAR!

  • 5/5! F'N AWESOME!

  • Wow, that was awesome. Too bad it was missing the iconic music.

  • The music you are referring to...is it Golion or Voltron?

It's like Macross is with Robotech... totally different.

I prefer the Japanese version. They used 3 or 4 different songs for Golion transformation. Sanka is my favorate.

I might post the version I made with the Sanka song.

I just get concerned of getting booted off of here for using the song.Someone who posted a AMV with it a while back got the boot. Thanks for the comment. BTW,Golion Volume 2 just came out a couple weeks ago !!

  • Im talking about the US theme for Voltron. I grew up with it naturally, and it has such energy too it, and I thought it matched the epic tone of the robots joining together.

Oh, also, I just imported my masterpiece Voltron figure from Toynami, got the complete gift set for like 60 bucks. Cant wait. Im gonna do my own Voltron video. Megatron Vs. Volton. I know, sounds awesome.

  • I gotta agree about the theme music. I watched a couple of episodes of Voltron and Golion on the web... the Japanese theme is not as attractive nor iconic to me than the Voltron theme. I love that theme. Even the music at the end. There's this eerie tone right at the very end which I loved! But the story is of course complete in japan while our us is butchered. Still enjoyable though. The theme really does play a major role in the excitement, I've learned..

  • Pretty impressive

  • Yeah, Okay. I grew up with Voltron too however, WEP really butchered it up and dumbed it up. No,I'm not posting a Voltron version. I'm a purist when it comes to anime and like looking back at the roots of giant robot anime. General Daimos,Mazinger,Voltus V,Combattler V,Gatchaman all came before Golion/Voltron. You should at least see the original version. It's more adult.

I'm not discouraging your creative aspirations for Megatron vs Voltron. That would be amusing to watch.Good luck with that.

  • Yeah, I came up with an interesting story for Megatron Vs. Voltron. Hear me out, this is a WIP at best. Basically it starts with the Autobots and Decepticons battling. Megatron is set to return with an enormous amount of Energon for his Decepticon forces on Cybertron via a newly constructed space bridge. But during the heated battle as Megatron orders his bots to give him cover, a large blast from Omega supreme disrupts the bridge, and Megatron is transported to Earth in Voltrons time line.

  • So, while Megatron is transported, the Voltron force is scouting the area for a supposed Ro-Beast sent by Zarkon. Just then, Megatron appears. And thus is mistaken for a Ro-Beast, but the Voltron force quickly realises there in for more than they can possibly imagine. It sounds cartoony I know, it's meant to be in true 80's fasion.

  • Amen brother. Watch the OG stuff before the americanized, dumbed down versions first.

  • Wow! Great stop motion production Gorgo. Im impressed. =]

I have 10 complete sets of the original toys from 1989. hahahahah.. ^^

  • Have you checked out the original version yet?

I bought Volume 1 last month. I love it. It's such a better version as Golion than what was introduced to us as Voltron.

A much, much more adult storyline. Like,Sincline aka Lotor returning with gifts (severed heads on a platter) for Daibazaai aka Zarkon. Or Princess Fala aka Alura and her family's brutal death. Hagar, who's Japanese name I forget uses the "Occult Science" to create Deathback Beastmen. Get it. It's better. Much darker and bloody.

  • You know, I've only had the chance to see one full episode where the male pilot of the blue lion died in Keith's arms and I loved it for the exact reasons you stated above. It was very dramatic and more interesting to watch than the Voltron series which were butchered up to my understanding. I'll definitely look into purchasing the set. :0]

  • Plase you must show them! Do you have Vid with ur collection? Love to see them.

  • Subscribe to me because I think I will make a video take of all my Voltron collection toys soon for youtube. :)

  • ha ha ha pretty good! It's a little "jerky" in places, maybe just a tiny bit too slow...but you've got it down perfect, just like the original animation. Nice work!

  • haha I heard MechaGodzilla's roar (90s) in there!

  • Yeah, you did. If you watch original versions of many Old Super Robot Anime you'll find that they use or reuse sounds from

Godzilla a lot. Reideen , Getter Robo, Zambot 3 , Daitarn 3 to name a few. It just sounded right for an underwater lion roar to me.

  • I read on Japanese Wikipedia that there has yet to be a Japanese DVD release of the series. Do I need to point out the irony in that?

  • Actually,I just bought Volume 1 this past weekend at an Amime shop in San Fransisco. It rocks !

episodes:1-18. It's way,way better than the Voltron hack.

It's so much darker of a story in it's original format.

    Get it !!

  • I pre-ordered it and volume 2 the day before volume 1 became available. You don't need to tell ME that. XD

  • Once again Gorgo, Great work!

  • Simply awesome! Thanks for posting!

  • That was wicked cool!

Are you planning on getting the GoLion DVD sets when they hit stores next month?

  • Perhaps...I already spoiled it for myself and watched the Italian uncuts. at least up to episode 15. Love it!!

I should for the subs. love the uncut version better.

So many prefer the dumbed down one...uuhh.

  • Amazing.

  • Oh, quite cool. I had that Voltron toy as well.

  • is that the masterpiece voltron?

  • yeah, with original 80's Golion sword except when U.S.Logo comes up.(at 1:45) Used Masterpiece Blazing sword for that .

  • kool

  • Well I don't know if GoLion renewed Japan's interest after appearing in the Super Robot Wars games, but if it does, then hopefully Bandai will produce a Chogokin model out of it as many of its toy lines now are based upon their appearance in Super Robot Wars lately.

  • I used to have this toy...wow...

  • EXCELLENT JOB!

  • In making this I did alot of research on the Super robot era of anime. I knew about early Mecha shows like Mazinger Z,Getter Robo,Grendizer,General Diamos but there had been many that

I never had heard of until checking them out here on Youtube like: Jeeg,Trider G7,Daitarn3,Zambot3

just to name a few. It's a shame they never made it over to the U.S. Maybe it's a good thing... We would've cut the hell outta these shows. There would'nt have been much left of these show after the reedit.

  • Great one. 5 stars from me! I love Voltron: Defender of the Univese, as we all know & love (got all 5 boxsets from Media Blasters and the Voltron Fleet of Doom TV movie special from the official website--it hits stores like Amazon soon) and I'm also gonna get the King of Hundred Beasts: Go-Lion and Vehicale Voltron (Deirugger) boxsets this year.

I'm so glad this wonderful & unique anime is kept alive. Too bad all signs are showing that the live-action film will blow big time ...

  • Believe it or not...I don't really like the U.S. (Voltron). Like most anime that makes it here...They dumbed it up. In making this I discovered exactly why. Subject matter. The U.S. won't show brutal death in anime and most Giant robot anime depicts very brutal scenes or scenes with religious context & demon gods. The FCC and evangelical bible freaks put pressure on the networks not to show those kind of shows. Has to be educational or just plan dumb. This is why Gundam is no longer on the air.

  • When I was a kid the first week of the show they were were looking for those stupid keys so when they formed Voltron for the first time I ran upstairs and told my mom, she didn't care.

  • That's a typical mom reply... "That's nice dear"...I think most Moms to that. Few women enjoy Giant robot stuff.

  • do you have help running this?

  • No,Just a donated Voltron toy. Did all the animation & audio mixing myself. It took about 2 1/2 to 3 months.

  • The toy looks really cool on your vid ~ but, please tell me the truth.

I'm thinking of buying this toy: could you tell me your opinion about this toy? I read all of this dissatisfied customers, saying how lame the toy is .... cheap plastic legs that do not fit properly into their casings, weak joints and articulations and all .... and I am hesitating now ....

  • Actually yeah, it's true on all of the above. As long as your not playing with it like that matchbox version though it's pretty awesome! But that's just my opinion.

  • Really awesome! That Voltron looks more articulated than the Matchbox Voltron.

  • very good i"m impressed

  • Totally awesome!

  • OMG!!! That was awesome. Great job!!! I am very amazed!!!

Sorry if this was already asked but is it hard to learn Adobe After Photoshop and After Effects & imovie to do this kind of stuff. Do you have any references I can read up on?

  • Either way,it's a very time consuming process. Photoshop is pretty easy to learn. Once you know that ...After effects is pretty easy to learn. It's all about manipulating layers you set up in Photoshop. No, can't say I know any special point of reference to point you tward. I've been learning as I go. I've been using after effects for about 5 years now. Thanks for the comment !

  • So great! Congratulation, awesome work man!

  • eh great work...nicely done...what programs did u use? I'm buying both the masterpiece and the original...I have the original but it's broken and missing parts,...I think I'll like the masterpiece edition more but...I'll have to wait untill it's in my hands :)

  • Thanks, I used Adobe After Photoshop and After Effects & imovie to add the sounds and editing.

I ended up using the Original sword that a friend had given me.Looked more like the one on the show.

  • Be gentle with your Masterpiece bro. Those things are FRA-gile. Especially around the waist, the parts that connect the green and red lion to the black lion and the black lion's neck isnt very strong either. Made in china. Not Japan.

  • The toynami Voltron is pretty nice, I just wish it had a bunch of gimmicks like the godaikin version. :(

  • yeah, I know what you mean. It should come with weapons for the lions. Blades, rocket launchers, ect.

  • Still though, awesome video man.

I know it probably took a ton of work too.

A re-cut "voltron" version would be something I'd love to see.

  • I had a Voltron Version up for a short while but

World Events might be putting it on a DVD release so I took it off.Thanks...it took me roughly 2 months to complete this.

  • GREAT F*CKIN JOB!!

  • Awesome video!!! Shoddy toy though. :( You should do one using the original toys instead.

  • Shoddy toy ?? What? This toy is better than the original in alot of ways. All it really lacks are the blades & weapons the lions use. The original one looked fat. But thanks for the comment.

  • haha, yeah, i have the shoddy toy and 5 originals. No way does the Toynami come close to the Japanese quality and look. Not fat, but buffer. ^_^ I didnt pay for my shoddy toy though, thats why its easier to be honest with myself. Masterpiece Voltron is mediocrity under a veil of a nostalgic name.

  • BTW, dont mind my comment. I understand youre defense coming from a corner that supports Toynami toys. =] You did a great job producing this video. Do some for Transformers!

  • That was awesome. It looked just like the show

  • WOW! I take myhat off to you and clap!

    I LOVE THIS! MORE MORE!

  • Thank you so much !! I want my next one to be Zambot 3 combination in scene.

  • Impressive. I thought it was a real 70's/80's commercial until I read the description!

  • I'm honored by your comment !! Thank you...that was the idea I had in mind.

I want to do advertising for Chogokin's...or at very least...show how cool they are !!!

  • You should use this as promoting material :)

  • World Events "might" be putting this on a DVD release...we'll see. It'd be nice !

I kinda want it on the U.S. release of Golion rather than Voltron.

  • bravo!

  • great job! thanks for such a sweet video!

  • I agree with DCompose. Very nice job!

  • Thank you. Hope WEP picks it up in the future so you all can see it in full quality on one of there upcomming DVD's.

  • Omoshiroii!

  • Thank You...!

  • VERY well done my friend :)

  • nice dude

  • Very good. For single person doing all the work it was interesting. An advice, when doing stop animation try to do the movements less obvious and in shorter single shots, that way when you play them, all the movements will look more natural.

  • Oh ok can't wait to see more but have you tried this with other things.

  • Sure have...Macross the digi stop motion was and still is an ongoing project.

My studio is going through a rough change right now...moving..possibly to California in the comming months...I don't know when I'll have time to do more footage...also...check my videos on here...did a G-Force aka Gatchaman short a few years back. Thanks... Gorgo

  • Sounds cool you think about Using Zyurangers(Mighty morphin Power Rangers.

  • No,I like combine robots & mecha. Not so much into Sentai Rangers...Power Rangers... I'm all about bringing old anime to live action though.

I animate what I have in my collection for the most part. I don't have any of those.

  • Thats cool have you heard of Ronin Warriors?Would you try Gigantor.(The cool looking one 28.)Not the fat original.

  • Congratulations. Keep up the good work Gorgo. Kindly feel free to visit my humble site: My Anime collection.

  • So are you going to talk with World events?

  • Already have.. just not here. This was actually for Toynami... This is why I took down the english version of this short.

  • Hey will you do one with the Vehical Voltron?

  • I wish I had a Dairugger XV toy...then I most certainly would.

  • Wow.....wow that was tight great job.I've got all the voltrons from the old cartoon to the third dimintion but I know the one your use so um where can I get one.

  • It's the Toynami 20th aniversery edition. But I used The 80's Japanese Golion's

King Beast Sword "Blazing Sword". It's more accurate to the anime.

  • Thats cool I do want one but is cost like 1 something.Again nice work can we see more.

  • I believe something like $150...my was a donation...More to come on that short. I did more scenes.Just haven't posted them yet.

  • OH OK Cool.

  • Excellent work!!

  • That was amazing!!! Very well done! ^_^

  • One of the best animation seen so far. I hope YouTube will acknowledge and honor great stopmotions. =)

  • Thank you! It was alot of work...with no social life.

  • INCREDIBLE! We want to feature this on an upcoming DVD! I sent you an email about it. Very nice work!
