Socialism simply means ownership of the means of production by society rather than wealthy individuals (hence "social-ism"). It makes me so happy when I hear others compare the teachings of Christ to the teachings of Marx. I believe in God and Christ, and I also am an advocate of the teachings of Karl Marx. It's the best way to love one another. Marx's materialism can come in useful when combating capitalist deception and illusion, but I know humans won't ever leave behind spirituality. I know I won't! Marx came later in life, when, with his christian belief (Christ as comrade) he started raising questions about the lack of social justice for the peasants of Recife. Socialism simply means ownership of the means of production by society rather than wealthy individuals (hence "social-ism"). It makes me so happy when I hear others compare the teachings of Christ to the teachings of Marx. I believe in God and Christ, and I also am an advocate of the teachings of Karl Marx. Read marx my friend. materialism is useful because it helps us see through the illusions of this society. We're told free market is free society by judgement of idealism, but w/material prospective, we must focus on its effects on the working class. The material reality is global exploitation of working class. As for revolution, Marx saw the working class in capitalism as the vehicle for change. Until the workers are conscious of capitalism's reality, there won't be revolt. Its up to us workers!

Terms like materialism are so vague. What does that mean, materialism? My clothes, house, shoes, utensils, tooth brush, etc, etc, are all made out of materials. Materials are important.

Hm? Marx e ética? Marx nunca foi ético, cara. Ele falava sobre ditadura do proletariado (ditadura ética?) e alterava dados para validar a teoria dele. Ele atacou seus opositores simplesmente dizendo que eram "burgueses", mas ele próprio tinha desprezo por proletários (para não falar sobre os artigos nos quais ele fala mal de outras etnias). Um cara que apoiou a injustíssima guerra dos estados unidos contra o méxico só porque iria trazer desenvolvimento e tecnologia não pode ser ético.

christ and marx completely incompatible. if you believe in something that rationaly should not be proven or even shown as possibly existing you cannot be in a communist society and function. for example if you believe that you must do everything you can to have your children be the happiest than you will steal from others for your children even if your kids are already fed and others aren't.

he spent the last 18 years of his life writing "Das Kapital" which he worked on day and night doing research. is that not work? the theory has not been disproven till today. much of it has been incorporated into the US system.

Freire did great actions. because of this, i'm interested in what motivated him. but the most important thing is what he did, the philosophy informing him was a catalyst. word plus action equals praxis! chistians have done good in the world and bad, so have communists, the point is don't get too distracted by idle discussion without praxis.

Christ is not about Christianity, just as, as Marx himself said "I am not a Marxist", Marx is not about Marxism. If you TRULY understand Christ's teaching and its HISTORICAL CONTEXT, then you would also ACCEPT Marx's thinking. Misunderstand both, you become an ideologue and not a humanist who is on the side of people. Christ's teachings are Marxist. Moreover, I think you don't understand how Marxism actually works within this system. It's a critique of the free market's ability to meet the needs of all people and how those can try to find a way to rectify their status within said system via their own efforts, not to try and convert the world into a single party one world government.

According to Marx communism is the point when no classes exist, also the government is supposed to be nearly gone, becouse its not necesary and useful anymore, only some organs of the government will remain, such as police and courts.
