This song brings back such good memories. Like my first love and how we met. It was 1985 and I was drunk off my ass. I laid her down on a bare stained mattress in a stale, dark basement of one of my friends parents. She said no a few times, but I persisted and 3 minutes later I was finished. The soft light of the gas heater lit up her face, as a single tear dropped from her eye. Then, she threw up.
This may be the most forgotten rockers of the 80s. I was a senior in HS when this gem was released on single. This band gets prejudiced like some other great southern 80s rockers....say Molly Hatchet, Drivin N Cryin, and ZZ Top. Yet where would music be without those great bands.Too many are overlooked or forgotten. Its why I started a multi generational band support effort called TOTALLY MUSIC ARTIST CHANNEL. Over 200 bands have become official supporters in less than 6 months. You will love it.
They weren't too pretty but there was something magical about their music, deadly combo of voice and sound. I miss the 70's and 80's :o( I'm getting old.
this was a great show back in the day and god do i miss the 80's and everything about that ERA .I miss it so much and the crap they have on now for music sucks.I have to tell yea that Lady Gaga is not from this planet that for sure she is not playing with a full deck

Not only does this song kick ass, it was the funniest video ever. They were born too late to be silent film stars, but being a great band is just as good. LOL
I laughed when Donnie was "beating his meat" in the slaughter house, lol. Man, I remember these guys growing up at 10yrs old. First time I seen a vid. for this song, though. Geez, time flies.
I was watching VH1 and saw this video with my friends and we all realized this is one of the most rediculous videos we had seen. We couldn't even listen to the music because we were blown away at how fucking weird this video was.
The beginning of the video was filmed at the Collingdale Borough Police Station. There were Officers from the Collingdale and Darby Township Police Departments. The first face you see is that of officer Fred Howell. Aldan PD. Most of the other guys have since moved on or retired. The car they were driving was an old Collingdale Police Car. It was used to follow the street sweeper so the Officer could write tickets for blocking the street sweeper. Great song and Video!!!
I saw this oh, so many years ago, not on MTV mind you, but NBC TV's free Friday Night Videos. Will Ferrell appeared on that show before it got dropped too! Celebrity hosts peppered the broadcast over the years, it was awesome!
@iluvthejobros9 I agree - and I'm almost twice your age - but bias aside, do you know why? This music was feel good music. Radioplay today is so damn depressing overall. I feel sorry for your generation. Life's not that bad!
@BlazenMods If it originated in the 90's then why do I remember listening to this song about 1984? Go look at their singles and when they were released.
@dontcallmefornothing I think it was a joke, perhaps, but I can't recall more then two videos following the concept. It's been so long I can't recall the other one, but this one is classic and the first. Parodies Gene Hackman scene at the end there, and Hill Street Blues TV show from Stephen Bochco (sp?)

I saw them in 1991 with The Fabulous Thunderbirds. It was an awesome concert. .38 Special is just one of those bands that you never forget. LONG LIVE THE EIGHTIES.
I PLAN TO SEE .38 SPECIAL WITH LYNARD SKYNARD AT CRUZAN AMPHITHEATHRE IN JUNE . GOOD OLE SUMMER CONCERTS AND THESE ARE EASY FEELING SONGS THAT ARE SO EASY TO SING WITH. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE WORDS. THIS VIDEO IS FUN TOO. REMINDS ME OF HILL STREET BLUES. I MISS THE 70'S -80'S TIMES WHEN PEOPLE WOULD JUST HANG OUT AND DIG ON EACH OTHER AND RAP WAS TALKING.
We Americanized Eastern Germany. They came over here and latched onto Alternative. Then Kurt Cobain died and before we could react or let it all sink in Yahoo! started making Wayne's World students into overnight millionaires. While everyone was busy making money all their heroes began passing away left and right. First it was Eazy-E, Zappa, Jerry Garcia and Selena. Then Tupac and Biggie. Meanwhile all our rowdies sought therapy and turned into The Osbournes and Dr. Phil. Now shrink kids rock?!
I don't think this is necessarily the answer, Mysterwright, but I like your imagination and creativity. Keep up the good work and be sure to mail it in to Rolling Stone, Nylon, etc.
Thank you. :) That last part was poking fun at Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan. 2003 was kind of like the last big nostalgic hurrah here in California with white people before Schwartzenegger became Governor. Mexicans represented with Ugly Betty in 2006 and 2007 after Dems took house & senate but when UB couldn't be stepped 2 they were recruited out of state & got dissed saying it was taking work away from Cali to film in NY and had a no-no law named after them. Suggestion killed the 80's.
@Mysterwright Yeah, agreed. Oh, and fuck WMG for their censorship. Well, I can see there're a few of us out there who still think for themselves. We haven't had individuality leeched out of us yet!!!
the 38 special sound on this song paved the way for progressive rock in the mid 80s, i love 38 special, i like them better than lynyrd skynyrd in my opinion
This song came out long before 1989. I think it came out in 1984. Their album Rock and Roll Strategy was released in 1988, the album they released without Don Barnes. 1989 was a good year for me, though, too. Dave's Beach in Fall River, Ma, illegally purchased beer and a station wagon that served as a motel every Friday night, but I digress...
gay.

Clever, silly video from the 80s.
I don't miss everything from that era, but I sure as hell loved the pop music then.
I don't know where we went wrong in terms of writing good, catchy pop and rock music.
What the heck happened?

We Americanized Eastern Germany. They came over here and latched onto Alternative. Then Kurt Cobain died and before we could react or let it all sink in Yahoo! started making Wayne's World students into overnight millionaires. While everyone was busy making money all their heroes began passing away left and right. First it was Eazy-E, Zappa, Jerry Garcia and Selena. Then Tupac and Biggie. Meanwhile all our rowdies sought therapy and turned into The Osbournes and Dr. Phil. Now shrink kids rock?!

Uh..............................what?
I don't think this is necessarily the answer, Mysterwright, but I like your imagination and creativity. Keep up the good work and be sure to mail it in to Rolling Stone, Nylon, etc.
DestroyerofSouls666 1 year ago

@EpicDesires69 No, that's no "I" in team.

@Mysterwright Yeah, agreed. Oh, and fuck WMG for their censorship. Well, I can see there're a few of us out there who still think for themselves. We haven't had individuality leeched out of us yet!!!

One of my favorite bands from my very favorite years. 1989 at its best! Thanks for the video:)
Bansheeeyes78 2 years ago 2
This song came out long before 1989. I think it came out in 1984. Their album Rock and Roll Strategy was released in 1988, the album they released without Don Barnes. 1989 was a good year for me, though, too. Dave's Beach in Fall River, Ma, illegally purchased beer and a station wagon that served as a motel every Friday night, but I digress...
