Eyyy, hate to say it, but ski/snowboard goggles are COVERED with air vents, as to circulate air in and prevent the lens fogging....probably not going to be the most effective thing against an eye-irritant....

It won't protect you from toxic gas but it would be really good to show off when its finished and a good product to sell to people to do spray-paint-art to stop them from breathing in any gas-paint sort of stuff.
