Actually, when you held the phone closer to the camera as it was playing HQ, I can see the pixelation much clearer, too.

It should already be on your phone by now. It is an over-the-air update. It was rolled out around the very beginning of May '09. If you still don't have it, get AnyCut off of the market, make a shortcut to device settings and from there, you can request the update.

I noticed is that the video stops once in awhile to buffer (download) when in high quality mode.

It does this about two to three times at the beginning of the video, then it plays fine.

So be patient. The freeze/buffering is annoying.

On a three minute movie trailer that indicated it was in HD, the screen froze twice, about 15 seconds in between, for about 5 seconds each.

Then played the remaining 2.5 minutes great.

By the way, I have 3G here in San Francisco.

3G actually comes automatically with the phone if you're in a 3G coverage area. I got my G1 for about $150 with a two year contract extension.

bit gutted that my signal seems to have gone a bit shit lately (from home) & if my signal completely goes it cuts off my wifi connction aswell and the only way to get it back is switching the modem on & off... fkin annoying! :|
