  • If you pause the video at 1:16, you can count the pixels, I got 74.

  • WOW amazing!

  • 0:36 the most beautiful among other videos of this piece.

  • me bicth

  • Gao Rocks! We love you, Xiang Gao!

  • His glissandos are so perfect it almost sounds like it's autotuned...

  • I have a violin and I am in the forth book and I'm seven

  • I'm learning to play violin, Someday I'll do it like him (",)

  • omg the piano is so much a badass and now this @.@

  • what violin is tht

  • nAyzzzz.. elegant.. O;33

  • ahh my ears :S?! why people consider that sound as music

its just a society thing, like you HAVE to like bachs music.

that violins sounds shitty as hell and it is only $280,000 because the builder jizzed on it.

  • @Oerti2 Incorrect. To you it might sound bad because this song has pretty much all 1/16 and 1/32 notes. And this is Paganini, not Bach.

  • @mattgav23

the thing with bach was just a comparison, thought you would get it.

  • i take violin lessons from this guy! he's AMAZING

  • @rsrocks29 You're a lucky person. hahaha. well... i guess my teacher is this good.... but still. she isn't on youtube ;)

  • @Mrtchaikovskyful well....maybe she's this good :)

  • puši kurac

  • And i thought playing this in my Baby grand was hard -_-

  • Absolutely fabulous performance Xiang! It proves why you are not only world-class, but have also been honored by the Stradivarius society.

  • Absolutely Amazing:)

  • Nice tie

  • THAT'S IT! I'M GETTING THIS MUSIC PIECE RIGHT NOW OFF GOOGLE, EBAY, AMAZON, OR WHATEVER!!!!

  • no doubt~

    excellent!

  • ahh...

    i love this piece <3

  • People need to realize that it is the PERSON playing the instrument that makes the the beautiful tone, shape of the line, et cetera...not the instrument!

  • Absolutely beautiful and flawless form. I hope to one day be able to play this piece in front of an orchestra, or just be able to play it so well!

  • Who THE HELL put a "dislike" to this video???

  • @donniecatalano They probably accidently hit it.

  • @tjtheplay: i truly hope so my friend

  • @donniecatalano people that don't like the quality of the video. The likes and dislikes can be viewed as a way to rate what the video transmits but also a way to rate the video itself ~ and it video (itself) is no biggy :o

  • @ThereIsOnlyFate: well, if the content of the video quality is 8 on 10 but the quality of the filming-editing postproduction is 3 on 10, I still think the video should be voted thumbs up. Otherwise, 95% of the youtube material should be banned.

  • @donniecatalano not saying it shouldn't ... if a thumbs down would lead to something as drastic as a ban :) Thing is, there are various perceptive on how to use the thumbs system.

  • Fantastic. Every musician I find that owns is Asian! I should've been born in Korea....

  • this song makes me clench my asshole

  • @kekeboy97 ....what? what does that even mean?

  • It's so relaxingggggggggggggggggggg

  • it's not supposed to be relaxing at all

  • maybe not to play, but to listen to, it's pretty relaxing.

  • love the roundness of the violin sound!

  • The original is actually by Paganini, Liszt just "Piano-ized" the piece for playing on a piano.

  • and it was paganini that inspired Liszt to become such a virtuoso

  • yes its by paganini, Liszt just rearranged it for piano. however in my opinion the piano sounds 10 times better than the violin.

  • liszt? paganini made it. :)

  • what type of violin is he playing?

i really need a new one cuz mine is really cheap, so i'm exploring better brands.

  • Ceruti....antique violin....worth too much

  • he plays a $280,000 violin made by master maker G.B. Ceruti of Cremona, Italy in 1794. he also receives violins from stradivarius. best of luck getting your hands on one of those

  • Best of luck just getting your sight (in real life) on one of those XD

  • @streetspirited actually violins are most definitely not everything. i see your point, but a violinist should always make the best sound ever with ANY violin. and the violin doesn't control technique, intonation, and many fundamental parts of violin except for sound.

  • @streetspirited 280,000 = us dollars ?

  • He is un fabulous violinist but I like the piano verson more and I think La campanella should be played much more slowly

  • awesome

  • lixo

  • yay 50,000 viewer XD

    thx for upload :3

  • you know i always notice y do musicians always debate wether ther instrments are much harder or better??? hello? music is not a thing to argue with, its not a world economic crisis...

  • we are not arguing over music, we are debating over the difficulty of our instruments.

  • Meh don't really think there is much of a difference in terms of difficulty, you could honestly put up good arguments for both instruments. Being a pianist overall I'd probably say the violin is harder, but not by that much. Heck, it's all in the practice really, not intentionally wantin' to sound arrogant but I could play the violin at a decent level easily in 2 years if I practiced enough

  • Both piano and violin are hard enough but to admit, the violin version of this song is not as hard the piano, i know becoz' i play violin, piano and flute. its difficult yes. hard to master, no. for both of the instruments so stop complaining that your instrument is better.

  • at what level do you play the violin?

  • and we were not really comparing the piece but the mastering of the instrument itself. to play the violin at a high level takes far more practice than it does the piano. not to mention the weird position which you have to hold the violin, to sit at a piano is far more natural. intonation is half the battle yet string players have to create their own intonation! it is not there for us. i am also a violinist. and i can say that in 2 years i was able to play the piano decently , but not violin.

  • have you heard the full version of this piece for violin?

  • The piano version is tougher

  • oh please...

  • violin is far more difficult to learn and play than the piano

  • Anybody can play chopsticks on piano, maybe an easy instrument to start out with but it's far far more difficult to master than violin. Look at the La Campanella by Franz Liszt and tell me it's easier than this. You control 2 rhythms on piano, this is only one.

  • Comment removed

  • actually, on the violin is still more difficult because with the piano, you have more than half the work done for you already. intonation and ton eproduction, not to mention being able to sustain notes. on the violin, you make your own intonation, you have to work to sustain each note and you have to work for years to produce a beautiful tone. Ricci said that with the left hand you are a surveyor and with the right a tennis player. both hands are not doing the same thing.

  • well you could say that the tone is already done for you but that what makes the piano difficult is having to control 2 rhythms with accuracy. You could call that multitasking, what other instrument can you hit 10 tones at a time. I'm not saying violin is easy but once you get the basics and technique, the bowel movement becomes automatic. Like on a guitar , when first learn you spend your first weeks making a good sound and having your fingers stretch to the right frets.

  • im not trying to downplay the piano, i love the instrument, but in terms of mastery and making music, the violin just takes more time and there is more you have to concentrate on making it a much harder instrument .

  • Once you get enough experience on viloin your left hand and right cordinate automatically kind of like on guitar you pluck the string to the right tone without thinking. Piano- use your left hand, your right hand, your feet too. It isn't just mindlessly hitting the keys either, you also control velocity of the keys. Well that's just my opinion.

  • violin rules

  • Violin dominates . ;D

  • Of course the both versions are great..

    But, Violin Rules xD

  • man, i prefer the piano version way more! the violin version though original sounds sleazy!! i can't point to that exact note but that sliding part feels like the unzipping of somebody's pants!

  • lol. i just have to agree :)

    no offense.

i guess la campanella was meant for the piano :)

  • ...

    Paganini was a violinist..

Why would he create a piece to be played by any other instrument..

besides, it's a very hard piece to master, he created it, so he must have been the best campanella's player ever don't you think?

  • I agree with you. I prefer the violin version (original version!) to the piano one, though I like both very much~

  • LOL.

  • this guy really plays this piece like someone who's drunk. i honestly don't think he can articulate correctly without sliding all over the place. he also slows way down because he can't handle the part after 0:30

  • Proud to be Italian... our real soul belongs to the past. Thank you.

  • wow ! nice. 1:01-1:08 sounds like flute. somehow :)

  • its called harmonics.. :)

  • wow. i dint know harmonics can play in so many notes. LOL. cause my teacher say very few notes can sound like that. :)

  • well it depends on yr instrument???? what instrument you play???

  • Violin (: ahhahaah !! i only learn on one note. and its higher "A" note in A string.

  • You're teacher a very convincing lier then. On the violin you can play whats called artificial harmonics which is done by holding down the index finger and extending the pinky finger a perfect 5th. The other harmonics occur perfect 5th on open strings, perfect 4th on open strings and perfect octaves on open strings.

  • haha, she told me, because i press almost all note in harmonics, becuase you its very tired to use 4th finger to pres hard. so i just slightly touch it, and she say, not all notes can play in harmonics XD

  • yeah its harmonics

  • thats so awesome! i want to learn to play violin so bad!!

  • ESTA BIEN MEN TE FELICITO

  • WOW!! SO COOL!!! the one on the piano is cool 2

  • breathtaking

I'd love to play like U on my Viola...

  • wow, nice

  • when you play the harmonics ,do you play only the harmonic????

  • niccolo paganini was the one who wrote all these violin songs. Liszt did a lot of transcriptions from other composers. I heard he worked with paganini alot.

  • noob , when u hear the name Liszt, it is always piano and when u hear paganini it is always Violin lol

  • elected the best violinist of all times

  • perfecto very good from juarez chihuahua

  • a few intonation problems but it wasn't too slow. I think the tempo was ok.

  • to slow, man. watch Leonid Kogan play this piece on Paganini's own viloin.

  • Thsu is rather amazing, However I dont understand why at 1:01 to 1:09 he used artificial harmonics, and then real harmoniocs and then artificial again, when it was all the same note, How come?

  • he wanted to have a change of sound quality or colour, its just like the repeated f sharps in dance of the goblin are repeated on all 4 strings

  • A transcription for piano of the same title was written by Franz Liszt

  • beautiful! :D

  • Very good playing.

  • magnifique bravo !

  • i listend "la campanella" by piano, but it's amazing by violin too

  • this is amazing this is the first time i have heard it without the orchestra or piano. But he still makes it sound incredible

  • if oni i could play like dat..loved it!!

  • no words

  • Excellent. Really Excellent.

  • Soooo good!

  • Bravo! I've never, never heard it played better.

    Thank you.

  • that is amazing. your playing is so flawless, and the tone quality is amazing as well. I love the harmonics too!

  • hooooooooooooooly

    crrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaap

    that was excellent!

    Amazing!

  • The sound and tone is so clean, and it is just amazingly done. Great job.

  • particularly outstanding!

  • omg. i wish my violin sounded half as good as that.... well, that's just blaming my violin <_<;;

  • I can play this fragment of the piece on my electric bass. Some love it, some call it blasphemy, and that's what I love about paganini.

  • I once studied the piano version from Franz Liszt in my electric guitar. :P some parts are amazing for practicing tapping (some others are actually impossible in guitar XD)

  • i wonder whats his violin?

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!!!!

  • Sweet!

  • sweet!

  • To bad there is no piano

  • I love it, but the fragment is way too short... play the whole version pls.

  • My goodness, the sound is so clear and clean. This is great.

  • i'm jealous -seethes-

  • Xiang Gao is a Professor of Music at the University of Delaware.

  • So clean!! excellent technique!

  • DAMN!!!

  • OM god!!!

  • Beautiful.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music for this piece? Thanks

  • Exellent!

good tecnique and amazing speed and accuacy

  • OMG

where can i get the music?!

  • yes he played very well indeed ;)

  • Ha--I had him at U.D. too, back in 2001-2. That man is fantastic. I think that's the chapel attached to Trabant that he's in, right?

  • cool, he is an instructor at the university i go to (U of D). He's quite an accomplishes musician to say the very least :).

  • OMG, I am so touched with his great technique and powerful performance. So great!

  • nice

  • It is interesting how people who play violin only

want to know how "great" they are and never listen to

themsleves honestly to realize they are 2nd. rate at best .

  • my teacher! :)

  • hypnotized

  • so good dude!! good job... we are want complete!!

  • yes yes. i agree

  • Great, goodjob. The theme was made of Paganini and then Liszt made a etude of it.

  • It was an etude of Paganini, but Liszt, a pianist who's goal was to show his virtuosity, made an arrangement for piano

  • I'm confused. Is la campanella by Niccolo Paganini or Franz Liszt because on my piano etude book it says its by Franz Liszt...

  • The orginal theme was from paganini, then Liszt made a etude of it.

  • originally for violin and i think liszt later rearranged for piano.

  • Unbelievably hot, man.

  • what lovely ricochet you have. very nice

  • wohow...perfect touch...

  • jajaja. ask to Xiang Gao. He pretends to say de truth. Just try to enjoy His violin plaaying.

  • wasn't paganini in the 19th century?

  • 18-19 (1782-1840).

  • it was the romantic era...
