  • I was surprised that Mary Tyler Moore smoked in real life.

She always came across as a prissy, goody-goody-two-shoes type of person.

  • What does Rosemarie not having a boyfriend have to do with giving Kent cigarettes for Christmas?

  • Kent smokes are "low in tar & nicotine" so even Ritchie Petrie can enjoy the cool taste of Kent.

  • This commercial was probably on the very episode that featured the "Fine Musician" number.

  • How much would ten cartons of cigarettes cost now? With a single pack at about $6 or so, maybe up to $1000.

  • I can see it now Merry Christmas, heres a carton of Kents for your family.

  • "I gave out 10 cartons last year. Boy, what a hit!"

  • well this takes care of my gift list for next christmas lol..

  • oh! I for got robert helpmann died(forgot what age)walt disney too!

  • wow! lucile ball died at age 77( think because of smoking)desi arnaz at age 69 because of smoking dick van dyke is now 84 and still alive mary tyler moore is 73 and she still alive(is she I'm not sure) well it effects everyone differently though

  • Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore both smoked 3 packs a day.

  • To all of you posting "slick" comments about cigarettes causing cancer, etc: News flash: WE KNOW!!!. Also, they aren't allowed to make these kinds of commercials any more. They are just fun for us to watch now. Again, just so we are all clear; we all know that cigarette smoking is bad for people and that it is best to refrain from smoking cigarettes!

  • Thanx, Doctortabby!! I post all types of commercials from TV cast because no one sees them anymore. We know cigarettes are bad, but who ever sees these classic ads anymore?!? Someone in YouTube has a nice selection of "Beverly Hillbillies" ads for Winstons, they're just interesting to watch 40+ years later.

  • You're welcome and thank you for the info on the Beverly Hillbillies ads.

  • It seems so wrong for Santa to be giving out cigarettes.

  • ...oh come on... I'm sure far more people die from obesity related illnesses than second hand smoke...a bad role model either way.

  • The Dick Van Dyke Show 1961-1966, is the greatest sitcom of all time.

  • Bons tempos em que PAPAI NOEL vendia cigarros. Hoje tem uma onda anti-tabagista insuportável assolando o mundo . Já tem gente que acha mais imoral fumar um cigarro que acender um baseado.

  • Kents are still safe to smoke because they have a Micronite Filter.

  • Our chemo is low-barf.

  • The pleasure and time spent smoking Kents is well worth any chemo. Probably those who need chemo removed the Famous Micronite Filter before lighting up these delicious cigarettes.

  • Mel and Alan Brady smoked Kents...no hair. And that's also how Sally got that lilting contralto of hers.

  • @4bibimimi Rich tasting low tar

  • Dick Van Dyke smoked for over 50 years and is still in great health, barring a bout of bronchitis in September last year.

  • Dick van Dyke is a dick

  • I love you, Dick van Dyke.

  • Rich tasting low tar...YES

  • Oh Dick, how could you? Okay, nobody really knew any better then but it's still jarring to see sweet, wholesome Dick van Dyke shilling cigarettes.

  • He made it up by co-starring in "Cold Turkey," one of the BEST satires I have ever seen.

Van Dyke is also strong enough to have defeated another habit, as mention in The New York Times (and elsewhere) has been made about his successful battle with heavy drinking in the 1970s.

  • Hey,he IS a Dick,after all

  • Hey, back then, NOBODY advertised OR education young people about the health hazards of smoking. It's a real shame, in fact it's a CRIME because I'm certain many people would not have started smoking. Remember...nicotine is MORE addictive per "micro-gram" than Heroin. So be kind to people trying to break the habit!

  • "Merry Christmas, here is a carton of smokes"....LMAO ROTFL.

  • Yes, it does seem strange to us now, however this was a different time period with very different attitudes toward a lot of things.

  • Lorillard Tobacco [Kent] co-sponsored Dick's series {with Procter & Gamble} from 1962 through '66; the cast usually appeared in an "integrated commercial" for the sponsor, at the end of the "Kent" episodes. Here, Rob and Sally remind viewers that the special "Christmas" cartons are available for gift-giving, from December 1964.

  • Loved the commercial with Rob and Sally, even if it is for cigarettes.

  • Love Kents! I smoke two packs a day and have no plans to quit.

  • damn when i used to smoke, i only smoke 2 times a day even thought i thought was too much :O

  • I hate my family and friends, I wish they'd all crawl into a corner and die...hey, don't be like that! Why wish them dead, give them one of these Kent cartons for Christmas, there must be a whole ounce of Blue Asbestos in here, let them smoke these and you can watch them caugh up blood and crawl into a corner and die for real! Boy, what a hit!
