I recently bought a used Squawkers and he works just fine, except I can't get him to say the "responses" I've programmed when I say the "command" that's supposed to make him respond. And he WILL say the custom commands and responses that I've programmed when I press the correct A-F letter button on the remote. Is there a certain mode he needs to be in to get him to respond to what I say? I move the switch on his back to "Custom Speech," but does the remote have to be in a certain mode too?
You may want to contact tech support at the toy company as this may be a defect with Squawkers as if the mode is set to 'Custom Speech' the mode setting alone should trigger the toy to follow voice commans/promots, I'm not aware of the remote control needing to be set too. try reading their product support site online and hope this helps

Amazing how technology comes down in price, wow, innovation is expensive at first and then 12 months later it's approx 50% off it's initial MSRP, amazing.
