There is a video posted by user iceman101976 that shows a mouse being bitten by an OBT (P. murinus). Have you ever seen that one? (Search for the title "One fatal bite" to find it, can't put links in comments). Anyhow, the mouse dies in this video within 5-10 seconds. Why so much quicker? Is OBT venom really that much more potent than pokie venom, or do you just suppose a larger amount of venom was delivered?
@jeffcoat1959 When the tarantula takes the mouse as a prey item it will usually bite and hang on and the mouse is dead FAST but in this video the T wasn't looking at the mouse as prey but as a threat and I think it barely scraped the mouse with a fang.

i keep several Tarantulas and have done for over 10 years and you should be feeding them crickets or locust as mice and rats contain to much protien and calcium which is way to much for a tarantula, lets be honest your killing these mice to look good on youtube and to show how potent the venom is on your ornamental but if the ornamental took 1 bite on you then i dont think you know what would happen, google human ornamrntal bites and then you will sell up as you dont have a clue.

dude this is totally inhumane! and im not on about the mouse being killed!!!!! Do you know anything about tarantula's?? This is an arboreal species that needs plenty of height in its enclosure which you have nto got, the shun light and this T doesnt even have a hide. Yes they will occassionally take mice but this is not to be a staple diet as an over load of calcium will actually kill your spider. Sort out its enclosure, if you cant look after your tarantulas properly get rid of em!

Sursk73, while I am not against feeding live animals to predators or posting videos. I would reccomend that you not feed Mammals to your Tarantulas as they contain far more calcium within them that other items such as crickets or roaches. This can be harmful to your T in large amounts. For the sake of such a beautiful animal I hope that the feeding of mice is an occasianl occurence.

As to it being live, All spiders a preadtory and they all consume live prey. They will not accept prekilled(In most cases). ITs an options for those that have snakes or Lizards. Not with a tarantula. I can agree that this persons vid is more than likey posted cuase he thinks its cool, but there is no cruetly taking place here.

@fireamusmus I'm not sure on the laws in the UK, but I don't find this cruel, in my opinion he shouldn't feed a mouse to a T anyway cuase of the inhernt risk's to the spider. But I know many UK hobbists who keep Pocletheria spiders. Of course they could be keeping the illgealy. Despite the title I should let you know that these spiders are not considered deadly to human's, however they are considered to be the most nast bite amoung T's.

I actually think the negative comments towards me and the video are entertaining and enjoy responding to them from time to time and knew that by making this video I would get plenty. In all honesty, I DO NOT enjoy being cruel to any animals and did not enjoy seeing the mouse die like this. I used to feed mice to my T's from time to time and never had any problems but I have been made aware that the calcium from the mice may be bad for the T's.

On a seperate note, I agree that live prey could always be considered a hazard but when I first started with T's (I had 13 at one point) I fed them mice often and sometimes mice much larger than them and NEVER had a wounded T. I think T's can handle themselves much better then people give them credit for.

@BooshgaFilms I'd encourage you to look at the bite reports online for the Pokies. Their bite effects can last up to a year or more(lingering effects). The Pkies venom is a nerve blocker and is exteremly painful if. Their venom is such becasue prey items can cause these spiders harm, thus thier venom needs to be hard hitting. In addition in a defensive sense, any animal who gets tagged by a pokie is likely never to bother one again. This with thier yellow warning bands on thier legs
@BooshgaFilms are ment to discourage potiental preadtors and would be "pokie handlers" I do agree with the calcium issue, however in instances where you need to fill your spiders stomach to get them to molt, or fill a female up so she will be less likely to kill the male durring mating, we call this powerfeeding. In those instances its acceptable, but as a normal prey item is just a bad idea. Either way Pokies are awesome T's and are great pets for those willing to be a responseable owner.

i keep several Tarantulas and have done for over 10 years and you should be feeding them crickets or locust as mice and rats contain to much protien and calcium which is way to much for a tarantula, lets be honest your killing these mice to look good on youtube and to show how potent the venom is on your ornamental but if the ornamental took 1 bite on you then i dont think you know what would happen, google human ornamrntal bites and then you will sell up as you dont have a clue.

I'm also aware of the potential for too much calcium increasing the likelyhood of a bad moult. Do you assume that I feed them mice every week? Oh and for the people bitching abuot the mouse, get over it, this is nature, in its own environment this pokie will eat any animal of relevant size that it can overpower without a huge struggle, they will also readily defend their territories by biting animals that get too inquizitive over their retreats. This is just the same as feeding a cricket, the only difference is you have sympathy for the mouse and not an insect. Deal with it.

dude this is totally inhumane! and im not on about the mouse being killed!!!!! Do you know anything about tarantula's?? This is an arboreal species that needs plenty of height in its enclosure which you have nto got, the shun light and this T doesnt even have a hide. Yes they will occassionally take mice but this is not to be a staple diet as an over load of calcium will actually kill your spider. Sort out its enclosure, if you cant look after your tarantulas properly get rid of em!

Sursk73, while I am not against feeding live animals to predators or posting videos. I would reccomend that you not feed Mammals to your Tarantulas as they contain far more calcium within them that other items such as crickets or roaches. This can be harmful to your T in large amounts. For the sake of such a beautiful animal I hope that the feeding of mice is an occasianl occurence.

Snakes, bird, rodents. Do not be so qucik to spread your words carelesly as you obviosuly have no clue what you are talking about. While I can respect that you do not enjoy seeing such things, you should not call someone sick because they fed thier predatory animal a prey item that is considered cute

@fireamusmus Again you are ill infromed, it is not illegal to feed a mouse who's soul reason is for feeding purposes. They are sold as "feeder mice". As to it being live, All spiders a preadtory and they all consume live prey. They will not accept prekilled(In most cases). ITs an options for those that have snakes or Lizards. Not with a tarantula. I can agree that this persons vid is more than likey posted cuase he thinks its cool, but there is no cruetly taking place here.

@fireamusmus I'm not sure on the laws in the UK, but I don't find this cruel, in my opinion he shouldn't feed a mouse to a T anyway cuase of the inhernt risk's to the spider. But I know many UK hobbists who keep Pocletheria spiders. Of course they could be keeping the illgealy. Despite the title I should let you know that these spiders are not considered deadly to human's, however they are considered to be the most nast bite amoung T's.

I actually think the negative comments towards me and the video are entertaining and enjoy responding to them from time to time and knew that by making this video I would get plenty. In all honesty, I DO NOT enjoy being cruel to any animals and did not enjoy seeing the mouse die like this. I used to feed mice to my T's from time to time and never had any problems but I have been made aware that the calcium from the mice may be bad for the T's.

On a seperate note, I agree that live prey could always be considered a hazard but when I first started with T's (I had 13 at one point) I fed them mice often and sometimes mice much larger than them and NEVER had a wounded T. I think T's can handle themselves much better then people give them credit for.

That really isn't the case, but I really do get a laugh seeing the hypocricy of some people saying stuff like, "I'd love to kill you slowly for doing that to the mouse." I have no problem making them think I'm an animal hater. This video was a feeding gone wrong that I decided to put to sad music and it was interesting to see the venom work

@BooshgaFilms I'd encourage you to look at the bite reports online for the Pokies. Their bite effects can last up to a year or more(lingering effects). The Pkies venom is a nerve blocker and is exteremly painful if. Their venom is such becasue prey items can cause these spiders harm, thus thier venom needs to be hard hitting. In addition in a defensive sense, any animal who gets tagged by a pokie is likely never to bother one again. This with thier yellow warning bands on thier legs

@BooshgaFilms are ment to discourage potiental preadtors and would be "pokie handlers" I do agree with the calcium issue, however in instances where you need to fill your spiders stomach to get them to molt, or fill a female up so she will be less likely to kill the male durring mating, we call this powerfeeding. In those instances its acceptable, but as a normal prey item is just a bad idea. Either way Pokies are awesome T's and are great pets for those willing to be a responseable owner.

I keep giving them roaches, although I have only done this once so i could sex the molt of a new T which was unsexed.
I still think that the mice thing is a bad idea as there are many other prey items you could feed your T even for powerfeeding.
