If you could travel at the speed of light you'd be able to go anywhere in the universe instantly because when you get to the speed of light time stops, therefore the number of light years the destination is away from you is irrelivent. of course to the people watching on earth a ten light year trip would take ten years at the speed of light :)

well, I think that the future of space missions and travelling will simply stand on robotics. Controllable-by-distance shuttles would be benefiting a lot, cause no need to carry passengers and carry the essential life products. Also, those shuttles would have all the empty spaces for hauling things.

When these space travelers found other solar systems in space where there are other planets that have materials and water on them, they could have the space station orbit at the right distance from an alien sun while sending sister space ships to the close planets to retrieve the water and other valuable materials.
