  • Found the information useful thank you.

So sad to see how negative people can be how can they be so nasty.

  • Can you change the feet on your machine? How often do you use it? Also, Is it still working? I looks like you bought this 2006, I am just wondering.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • I like this video! It showed me more than most of the manufacturer videos I've looked at and it was like having a friend show me their machine. There's no point showing the threading in detail unless someone has the same machine, this is more of an overview. It would be nice to see it sew on a few different weights of fabric but not a big deal. Thanks for uploading this!

  • This seems to have been made for a Sandra. The maker would have been a much better communicator if she had prepared what she was going to say and considered her vocabulary. Alas, she was too vague for me in some parts.

I would have appreciated a demonstration of the points she was discussing. It was interesting to see the parts of the Brother machine, but I want to serge heavier knits so I wouldn't want to buy bottom of the range.

  • this woman sounds soooo bored - just not very inspirational to listen to. She really isn't enthusiastic about it. Why is life such a chore?

erm er... errrr..... um..... ah..... um... err.... uh... and erm.. urgh... em and er...

  • Thanks, Sandra! :-)

    Thanks, dnarotski !

  • Thanks, Sandra! :-)

  • Geepers, all the haters! You can remove their negative comments if you'd like. I appreciate that you showed me what the dials are for.

  • Thanks for taking the time to show me stuff. I just bought a serger and am making little sachets full of balsam fir needles. Is it okay to just put my needles between two pieces of fabric and serge around the whole thing, all on the right side of the fabric? Or do I need to just do three sides, turn it right side out and then hand stitch it closed after putting all the fragrant needles inside?

  • beyond lame!

  • Thanks so much for making this video. I always appreciate the effort people make. I think the complaints some people have is the very casual, almost uninterested attitude of your delivery. Since people are eager to learn, they generally want to hear some knowledge, excitement and assuridity in the voice of the narrator. I don't mean to be or sound rude, if I come off that way I truly apologize! Just providing some feedback :)

  • Worse learning video I have ever seen. Please remove this video It's just taking up space.

  • There seems to be a lot of "I think" :) Can you please stop smacking your lips or the gum or whatever it is making that smacking sound omg it is ear piercing. Yeah gave up on this one I don't think she knows anymore than I do. But thank you for trying! Too much work on a how to use a serger video to thread the serger? Really?

  • no se ingles no entiendo pero agradesco estos videos

  • I have given up after 3 mins! shes too fedup sounding!!

  • @beesparkle Go to my video page, I just posted a tutorial.

  • i have the same serger and the instructional video that came with it said to start at blue and i think she mixed up green and blue, this video wasn't helpful at all it doesn't clearly say how to thread it other than look at the picture or read the directions, if it worked when i did that why would i be watching a video. wasted my time

  • @PrinceYukiShoma Go to my video page, I just posted a tutorial.

  • Thank for post this video and this Brother 1034-D serger overlock machine is wonderful and a combination of Brother PC420 Runway limited edition sewing machine is more wonderful, that combination is perfect., but I would like to know how many feet come with it and how many feet you can purchase and when? Thank you

  • Your Brother 1034-D is a wonderful Serger. With 22 stitch functions and the optional feet, you can do many things with your Serger. It is NOT a cheap machine, but it is not that expensive. Under $250.00 and a 5 year warranty. I hope people try Brother Machines as I have found them to be most excellant. Did you get the 2 CD's with your Serger? They make it SEW EASY to learn how to use the Brother 1034-D

  • @nvdem1 you must work for BROTHER! do you get a bonus for this plug?!!

  • yay now i know that this machine works i have been debating on whether or not to but it the price seemed to good to be true thanks for the info

  • LOL..I appreciate her honest attitute...

  • lazy delivery; curious, since it's supposed to be instructional: she offers information, but then can't be bothered to clarify.

  • Thank you thank you thank you!!

  • Thank you for posting that.

  • thank you for posting. I'm new to serging and it helped me.

  • how do u change the needle of the brother overlocker

  • dnarotski - thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I have this same serger - 1034D - and I hate to thread it, so I tie the new thread on. My biggest challenge is serging around curves.

  • Comment removed

  • I meant cut the thread. Not sut it. LOL

  • A simple way to change out the upper looper and the lower looper threads is to release the tension, sut the threads prior to going through the tension dials. Tie on the new thread with a simple loop knot, then run the serger and the new color with appear in the chain. Hope this helps simplify re-threading the loopers.

  • i have Brother but older version i think ,,, and i'm not very happy with the noise , it's a bit loud and also the lower looping thread breaks easily. Also- the thing for rolled hams broke.

BUT it's forgiven because the serger is really old - atleast 8-9 years old :) I guess i need a new one but i'm not sure about the brand Brother .

  • First I was excited to see how a serger works, hoping the person showing (off) the serger, would show us how to thread the serger, instead she goes, well,... I am not going to that much effort of re-threading my machine. Then she is pointing to the buttons that she has no idea how to work them or what they do. I ended being disappointed. Sorry, plz do not recommend this video to others because it is very misleading. I was wondering this had so many negative comments and I see why.

  • yeah, I don't agree with this... She doesn't even know what serger she is using.

  • It's threaded out of order and the mouth smacking noises drove me crazy....is that braces or are you sucking on candy? This seemed very Brother specific so the title should state that. You don't really learn anything from this video.

  • ON CONTRARY IT TAKES A LOT OF GUTS TO GO ON LINE AND CREATE A VIDEO TO HELP OTHERS. SHE TOOK TIME OUT OF HER DAY TO create this video ; NOT BASH THEM LIKE YOU . SO CURIOUSLY DO FEEL BETTER NOW? TO SHOW PEOPLE HOW TO DO THIS WHICH i ACTUALLY NEEDED IS A goDSEND;.SO WHY FLAME HER? DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOUR SELF. there IS NO REASON TO BE RUDE.and snotty you can be? I LEARNING alot FROM THIS VIDEO AND AM GLAD THATit then hit the delete key and move along

  • Really? Out of all the comments, you are just going to harass me? I didn't flame her, I gave criticism that would improve her future videos. Don't eat hard candy (or whatever that noise was) while talking through a video and if it is a video about a very specific brand, include that brand in title so I don't waste my time watching it. It wasn't mean spirited, just to the point.

So do you feel better after replying to me? You should've saved your breath.

And I suspect that you made the video.

  • @scrapbookcutters

Sorry to disagree with you, but the author of this video doesn't know what she's doing! Why waste her time and ours then? I wouldn't even bother to post it if I don't know the machine. I'm actually embarrassed for her. Also, why do you have to shout? It's very rude.

  • @Seagull2000

Well she certainly isn't hurting anyone. Everyone will learn how to use their own machine, she gave great info for getting started. No need to be crappy and insulting. You could have said you disagree with her without going into the whole "I'm actually embarrassed for her" bit. How condescending! She obviously sews a lot, look at her sewing room...

  • You do not have to watch this if is bothering you, She is not getting paid for this

I enjoyed this video and learned form it

  • You really need to learn about your serger before you go on to teach others. You mentioned breifly the controls on the side-never stated which was for the differential feed..you threaded your machine wrong and " Out Of Order." And you take an approach as "if you've seen one you've seen them all."This is so wrong-I'm buying one very soon and I've done my research ..There is a difference .this is what makes it hard. Read you books and practice using it properly don't continue to use it incorrectly.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this!

  • You may want to read your manual again. You have your threading order wrong and your threads will break if you go left to right.

  • Wish I'd seen your demo before I bought my Bernina 700D. I'd have gotten better features on a Brother like yours for less than half of the money I spent on the Bernina. Maybe Berninas last longer, but my serger won't see heavy use. I'm glad I spent the money for my Singer Futura CE 250 sewing/embroidering machine, because I got tons of features for the money. But at 2-3 times the price of a Brother, the Bernina just wasn't worth it. So for anyone debating, get a Brother! Thanks for the video.

  • Gosh i would not take advice from her, she comes across painfully unsure, lol. B4 u know it, your fingers will be off and what remains will be overlocked!!!!!!!!

  • I think it should be titled, BASIC FEATURES OF A BROTHER 1034D.

  • Describing the basic features of a Brother 1034D serger. Would like to see how well it serges though.

  • Pretty decently! Just got one for christmas. Damn good buy for the money.

  • Thank you for posting this. I inherited a Brother Lock from my best friend (she went off to Naples to work on her Masters and she didnt have room for her two sewing machines).

So this is a nice starter help vid to work with!

  • be careful on buying a machine from Walmart. They are Chinese made and if they need repair, there are NO parts available. This goes for most appliances; made in China = disposable.

  • awesome thanks! Can you make a video of you actually using it? Im getting one and would love to see it in action, thanks!

  • As I understand sergers, you can tie the new thread color onto the old thread (that is already threaded.) Then just run the machine. The machine threads itself, so you don't have to! Of course, you can check with your local sewing machine shop to make sure, or call your local Co-operative Extension and ask the Home Economics specialist.

  • haha, that first dial on the side is for your feeddogs, it controls how the fabric is fed through the machine and that thing on the side is called a hand wheel. also on most sergers there is a certain order they thread in.

  • I've read that you're supposed to thread it from right to left, otherwise you can get tangled threads.

  • I've always wondered how those things worked. I've been thinking about getting one. Thanks for the info.
