I own many HT radios. I recently purchased the Wouxun KG-UVD1P on Ebay for $105 USD. The items was purchased from RadioAccessoryShop in Hong Kong and was shipped to my location in Ohio USA in 8 days! For the money this is truly one heck of a radio. There are also mods out there to open the radio up. This is the perfect radio for a beginner HAM or GMRS users. Programing the radio is a breeze using the software and cable. My only recommendation is getting a longer dual band antenna
I've been a Ham For 30 Plus Years and I bought this Radio 3 weeks ago and I have to say it's one of the easiest dual banders I've ever used just remember your Menu and TDR buttoms in combo switch Channel to Freq mode also Dual Watch then remember the menu and the # menu select menu confirm exit. makes it even easier to program if you remember the menu #'s . I never owed a Japanese made Radio that was this easy to use
@FossZombie I did get a programming cable. Certainly was easier to arrange frequencies and was easy to change PD and FD frequencies that I'm not allowed to transmit on, to offset to the amateur bands. That way if I accidentally transmit while listening to police or fire, it simply transmits on amateur simplex.
we have it now .. every one complains about this radio But for the "price" we cant .. beat it not icom or yaesu or kenwood . i hope .. that they come out with a aprs or d-star radio h-t some day soon ..
Good video. Thanks for posting...This radio looks like to much of a pain to program. Was seriously thinking of buying one these but after watching this video I think I will get something else.
An older ham friend of mine picked up one of these from the local radio shop for $130 the other day but couldn't figure out how to program it... Have to say, this was one of the most complicated radios I've ever had to deal with, but overall doesn't seem bad once it is programmed.
Having never used the programming software I can't say it would be much better, but I can't imagine it would be Worse.
Biggest flaw of the radio... The lack of VFO/MEMORY *BUTTON*!!!
@elesjuan The biggest problem with using the software to program the radio is that folks dont get to know how to use the keys on the radio, simply pressing the menu button and tdr button one after the other switches the radio from memory to vfo, it even mentions this on the box??
Nevermind, I forgot to change the CH-MDF from Freq to CH... : \ It is a little tedious to program it, but how many times you gonna program a radio? Thanks proctor
>.< so I'm trying to name my saved channels, but when I scroll to "Channel Name" under menu, then Press Menu to try and edit, but it exits out of the menu.... Is there a channel setting I've not done?
You could actually progran the up and down freqs for sats on the same channel. Remember, it is dual-band. Just set your transmit and receive freqs via the programming software.
@rbkfred drives me up a wall, no issues programming but how to do memory recall etc without having to reprogram all the time, my yaesu is ez to program compared to this but for the price it cant be beat

Which is best: wouxun uvd 1p or Midland CT-790
wouxun uvd 1p only costs about 90 USD on ebay! :)
Midland CT-790 really costs 300 USD! : (
Both have the same frequensy range, talk range and software. Everything looks quite the same the only difference I see is the price.
I myself have a wouxun uvd 1p with free shoulder mic, usb cable and software do I buyed it on ebay for only 105 USD! :)
And I'm quite pleased with it!
So I would suggest the (WOUXUN UVD 1p)

@4256573 The outside case design. Otherwise they all run the same firmware and are all programmed exactly the same.
