[Jim Brown] "I think it is a reminder of two things. Great achievement, pure achievement - because that's what it was - and the lack of the same type of approach. There was great appreciation that we had for the players before us, the history before us. We believed the Cleveland Browns were special. We believed that the Cleveland fans were the best in the world, and there was always a Cleveland Browns attitude and a city attitude that we were special and the history was special."
"..as [John] Wooten and [Jim] Brown walked across the street to Brown's car to head for the stadium, the fullback turned to his friend and declared in his understated baritone, "Woot, we're going to kick their ass today."
"I knew we were going to win. They weren't that good, I'm tellin' ya. We were a better team, man for man." ==Vince Costello, Browns middle linebacker, who remembers Baltimore fans yelling at Browns fullback Jim Brown from a bus as it turned the corner near the Pick-Carter Hotel, where Cleveland players stayed the night before the game.
Wow, does that audio sound clean for 1964. Original tape or has it been remastered? I got a football game for Christmas that year and tracked the game on it.
Give it some time, they are going to fire Mangini after the season and they may hire Holmgren.I am a Giants fan for 39 years when they played in Yankee Stadium(R.I.P.) and I know what you going though. Back in the 1970's the G-Men were the worst in all of the NFL.I believe bettere things are coming for the Browns.
@CLVVBOB Game-time temp 34 degrees. Winds 15-25 mph. Attendance 79,544, second-largest in NFL history at that time. Ticket price = $8.00. The game was blacked-out locally; re-broadcast on Cleveland television that Monday night.

nope im not getting lost...nobody talks about the pre-superbowl championships with the exception of the 1958 game...i bet over half of the cleveland browns fans dont even know they won a championship...i never heard Jim Brown talk about it..espn talk about it...and when i pick up a NFL encyclopedia its all about the Superbowls...so yes they irrelevant...the browns will always be know as one of the few teams that has'nt won a SUPERBOWL yet....and on top of that was this game televised?
Ask the guys who played in those games whether or not it means anything to them. At the time, it was the biggest prize pro football had to offer. I don't care if it wasn't called the Super Bowl. And Jim Brown probably doesn't talk about it because he wasn't the key player in that game. Gary Collins, who caught 3 TD passes, was the star in the '64 title game. Brown has a notoriously huge ego, so it probably bothers him that he wasn't the star of his only championship win. Just my theory.
Of course it means something to them they won a championship...but not a superbowl, thats not me saying that, and if they do win one that will be their first SUPERBOWL thats whats gonna be said!
Im gonna lobby so that MLB changes the "World Series" to the "MLB Championship Series", so that the yankees won't have any more legitimate championship teams. Yea, thats logic for ya.
that already happened Dorok you see the first WORLD SERIES was played in 1903 and pro baseball been around since the 1870's if im not mistaken, so who were the baseball champs before the world series? nobody knows or cares...same as pre-superbowl era
Yeah but if they by some miracle were to win the superbowl this year, it will be reconized as their 1st superbowl not there 5th championship by all media outlets.
I remember the last touchdown from Ryan to Collins when he ran into the portion of the Stadium which was later the Dawg Pound and was mobbed by the crowd. I also remember four years later Shula and the Colts got their revenge in the NFL title game 34-0. Two weeks later, they choked in Super Bowl III against some guy named Namath. "I really want to kiss you."
Hi there! I'm an English fan of Aston Villa (the soccer club owned by Randy Lerner). I'm trying to learn more about American Football, and particularly the Browns as you're our sister club. Is this 1964 champions win the best point in your history? How come there's no video of the win?
Well true, It was the LAST great point in there long proud past. This was the last time the Browns won a NFL championship. Something they did often in the 1950's.
Truefaith....I was 16 when the Browns won this game and I was beside myself as I watched it on our black and white TV. The Browns were huge underdogs. The only thing the critics gave the Browns was an edge in def ends. They didn't even give the Browns the edge in the backfield with the best back ever...Jim Brown. It was 0-0 at the half and the Browns won with 3 TDs by Gary Collins. Lou the Toe Groza booted two FGs and extra points. Oh...it was a great day. The vaunted Colts were shutout 27-0.
Wonderful! Thank you for taking the time to sync the narration and photos.I was at that game, and for all those who wrote nasty things about the Browns, I say to bad for you! You have not lived, unless you watched Jim Brown walk out of the dugout...You could near a pin drop....no hip pads, no thigh pads...every time..every single time he touched the ball you stopped breathing..he was amazing!
actually, im not a browns fan, im just making a point that the browns will always have a more profilic history than the patriots(but you do have some history here and there) and the greatest team in nfl history is the green bay packers(and im no packers fan).

Nobody cares about hose nfl titles anymore though i mean they aren't as impressive as a superbowl because they didn't have the playoffs back then. And the packers aren't the greratest team in history they had that from 72 to 92 where they only made the playoffs once.
but now i know more than when i said that, so all i can say is that it is hard to say which is the greatest ever, because they all have reasons why not
like with the bears, most of the nfc/afc era wasn't that great for the bears
and with the giants, they weren't that great in the early years and 70's
so again, it is just too hard to have a definitive answer as to who the best franchise is ever; same goes for almost all other parts of the game
Raven...you're a youngster so you don't know about back in the day. I was there. You had two leagues...NFL and a new league...the AFL.
Winning the NFL championship then was the big one. Since the Super Bowl was in the future there was no considering it so it can't be part of the argument. I enjoyed football back then and the NFL championship was a great game. It was the championship of football. The winner was the best team in the country. You can take that to the bank son.
No one has answered the question is the actual CBS broadcast availiable?

You're not making sense. If the SB changed it name, all the previous rings become irrelevent? I don't think so.
Plus Browns have 4 NFL championships. And they count baby. Go to the Hall of Fame and see for yourself.

packers have 12 world championships(pre-championship game included), and the browns have 4 world championships(not including AAFC championships).
So,(correct me if i'm wrong) they both have more world championships than the patriots, with the packers have 4 times more than them!
