They have probably got rd of all the good fighters in the first 5 mins. They were like,"F this pretentious show, this has nothing to do with Muay Thai.
i think the training is to mentally break the fighters. ovioulsy you can see fighters break. more than anything it's a test to see if they have what it takes to be part of the team.
I agree with the guy below me. Running sprints and doing squat walks don't make you a better fighter. I was in Thailand, the Thai guys stick to the basics - padwork, sparring, clinching, some pushups, some pullups, roadwork, situps, etc.
I took Muay Thai classes in Thailand and came back to America to continue my training and I'm like WTF is this bullshit - Pushups, situps, and, leg raises during Muay Thai class. I can do that by myself after class.
@mustangx218 some people are so into conditioning that they forget they need to learn how to fight, personally i find all this idea of their stupid, if they want the best fighters they should look for someone who fights
@mustangx218 100%. The hard core gung ho way of training is completely at odds with the Thai way of sabai sabai. I was taught the Thai way and it is all about correct technique. That why, for example, tiny Thai's throw big farangs around the ring in the tie up position.
When it came to kicking drills we did what was called "cha cha" as in slow and technical. Keep the tough stuff for the bags.
@mustangx218 It doesn't take a pro fighter to realize they're trying to weed out the people that don't truly want to be there. And cross training will NEVER hurt ANY type of athlete.
Is this a tryout for Survivor or Muay Thai? So you'll find the best potential candidate for a decathlete, but you probably won't find the best fighter with an endurance test. What happens when these guys lose to a Thai fighter who drinks beer? Good show, but I don't see the how the criteria will lead to the best fighter.
this isn't the way to find the best fighters in america. The best fighters aren't those that can run the most or who can train the most. The true fighters are those that face any opponent in the ring, the best are those that come out victorious in the ring,
This is a good video and a good program, but it is more of a workout for fighters rather than the process of finding the best fighters. I did not see Kevin Ross, or Joe Schiling aka the best Thai fighters representing the U.S.A
Sick I am into wrestling/judo and stuff. This is great but I have to continue school, and I want a BB in Judo or BJJ before I start striking like a mad man. =)
@Kingofdaheavyweights don't close yourself for something new. The sooner you start the better. You don't have to (and usually they don't let you) go for full contact competition immediatetly.
I would suggest really young ppl (I have no clue how old you are) to do taekwondo+judo so they have very good basics (flexibility, throwing, speed, good kicks, falling...) and then to swtich to kyokoshin/MT + grappling. (with like 16, 17)
your life, your decision dude. wish you good luck + success
