@zubieta Yes. Most (all?) 3rd-party screen recoding apps let you do this. Or, you could record the whole screen and then crop to the area you want in iMovie.
@macmostvideo I found a weird way around it, zooming with trackpad+option key... though it still records as 1280x800, but the zoomed part. anyway, thanks for the reply!
@seamuswarren There is no batch processing feature, if that is what you mean. But you can do more than one at a time. Just select a bunch of files, then open them all. Then one-by-one do the export. You don't have to wait for one to finish before the other starts.
Thanks man. this helped me alot. but i want to know will the share to youtube save it as youtube size? i want to capture my full screen to post to youtube but im afraide it will be mush bigger than youtube size thus people not seeing my screen well??
@Th33M33 If you have a large dimension video, it will need to scale it down, yes. Just a fact of life. But you can get much more creative in how you make screen capture video if you use something like ScreenFlow.
i'm upset about Quicktime X. it sucks!!! you can't even uninstall it :( is there anyway to combine videos on quicktime x? i have four different parts of a that i want to combine. i tried reinstalling quicktime 7 pro but it won't let me. any suggestions
@illsen12345 QuickTime X is part of Mac OS, so you can't uninstall it. But upgrading to Snow Leopard shouldn't have removed the old QuickTime 7 "Player" application. It should still be there. If not, it should be on the Snow Leopard disks. QT 7 didn't let you combine videos either -- it was QT 7 Pro that did.
Great review. I really don't understand why apple have made QT finder previews with no scroll bar or volume control (you either have sound blasting out at full volume, or mute - same with QT movies on web pages). I also don't like how the transport controls are superimposed on top of the picture you are watching. Really hope apple come out with a Pro player than addresses these problems.
QT X seems to have problems with some movie formats, even Apple's very own: sometimes, the screen remains blank, only Audio is there. That even happened to a .mov video that I exported with QT 7 on another machine! VLC on the other hand could open the .mov (and other videos that worked fine with QT7) with no problems.
Question: I have made a clean install of SL, now I'm missing QT 7. What's the best way to install it?
You say you can run Quicktime 7 and also Quicktime X on Snow Leopard....Well, I can't. Quicktime 7 does not install when Quicktime X is present, according to my iMac notice. How can you install both on Snow Leopard.
I guarantee you you can run both X and 7 at the same time. First, are you sure you don't have it already? It would be in the Applications/Utilities folder unless you did a clean install. Otherwise, are you using the Optional Installs on the SL disk to try to install it?
Thank You so much for your information. Yes, there it was in the Utilities folder as you said. I dragged to the dock. I have QT 7 Pro. It works as it normally does. I did not know where it was. Tank you so much for your info. So far, SL is perfect and all my applications work great. No Problems with anything in my iMac. I think is a lot faster OS than Leopard. Very Happy, you are great.
Thank you VERY MUCH! I am new to Macs (switched from XP), so I kept double clicking on the Q icon on the system tray, thinking that the application would open a new window. I completely missed the fact that the menu bar at the top changes the context of QT. Way more intuitive than XP Windows Media. Works great!
I like the new QuickTime 10, for me is perfect for what I use it for, watching clips and sharing them to iTunes. They're gonna add the missing features anyway soon.
Is there any way to just record a PART of the screen, not it all?
Or what software do you suggest me to use for this? Thanks.

Hello, :)
Can I export more than one .MOV at a time to whatever it is (.264?) that plays on AppleTV? to an AppleTV format?
I've got all these .MOVs that I can't just drag into iTunes because they don't play.
Thanks heaps. :)

@macmostvideo
Many thanks for the information. :)
Yes, I was hoping to batch process multiple .MOV files. I have several "chapters" to convert to MP4 with each made up of ten or so .MOV files.
One way to lessen the pain may be to join the files that comprise each chapter into one long .MOV.
Hmmm… :)
Thank you once again,
Seamus. :)

@seamuswarren
I just appended the ten clips comprising chapter two into one forty eight minute clip and have started exporting it as a .m4v for AppleTV.
Not so painful now I hope.
A better viewing experience too I reckon.
Thank you. :)

It is an optional install on the Snow Leopard disks if I remember correctly. I think you can also download from the Apple site somewhere.

I thought QT X would allow users to record video directly from the iMac camera. I just upgraded yesterday. Am I missing something? Thx
