  • Love this vid. I have Z32TT on stock engine/turbos with some upgrades pushing maybe 360whp. Much easier to achieve 500whp on 2jz but I wouln't get rid of my Z for anything. It'll take awhile before I reach 500whp though because my engine/turbos are still healthy.

  • nice cars but I would have liked to see better races out of the two. the only race i saw that was reasonably lined up, the Supra had the lead at the go but quickly let off. who knows what would happen if both lined up right and stayed on it.

  • @lazysan DIdnt' mean to remove your other post. But dude, these cars were all on pump gas. A standard ball bearing T67 on the 2JZ is going to net around ~500 RWHP on pump gas give or take. Sure on race gas they could see high 600's and maybe 700 RWHP with built head, but that wasn't the case here.

  • @lazysan many times in the video you can see that the 300zx lags a little at the start but has much better top end. in general that's true, which is why jun made a 300zx go faster than a bugatti veyron, but after several years they couldn't do the same with a supra.

Not saying it can't be but considering everything else, it seems far fetched to me.

    This shows an example of two cars built to do the same thing, by Jun Auto, one of the most respected tuning houses for Japanese cars in the World. Even with a bigger budget and much longer development time, the Supra was still 19kmh short. In terms of performance for land speed records that is a HUGE difference. The 300ZX record in that class remains unbeaten.

  • @lazysan I'll also point out that unless another Supra has recently beat it, that is still the fastest (top speed) Supra in the world. In fact it was the fastest Toyota in the world for awhile. But still slower than a Veyron.

  • builds they look good but the perfect z couldnt be best explained other than by top gear guys the 1989 300zx tt they had (same body style as the 90 it was supposed to be a 89) proves nissan got better as they went into the 90s but the 350 and 370 are still slower then the 1996 300zx tt true perfection btw 2 best imports supra 300zx tt

  • @bombaboy12 The insurance on any car is really going to be based more off your record than anything else. The car itself is pretty affordable insurance because of its age. Liability will be rather standard and full coverage will be a toss up if its even available depending on your provider. Many insurance companies will no longer insure the Z32 with full coverage due to its age.

    Well I think he was stating that the supra wasn't a lateral set up like the Z but was a sequential turbo set up. Or possibly he's just dense, either way, both are great cars. I still like my Z more than supras.

  • @FFRPWNER1 You're about 2 psi short on max psi for stock turbos. Though it's very capable of pushing more so long as you've done other mods. For example, running a fuel system to support e85 would mean your motor runs cooler, which would enable you to push your stock turbos further. I had a friend who was pushing his stock turbos to 20 psi and they lasted quite awhile.

  • i just got a 1991 300zx N/A 2+2 and i love it but going from an automatic 92 4 runner to a 300zx stick was scary at first i drifted on accident lol i finally got driving a stick shift down now, but after drifting on accident in rush hour traffic scared me lol so im kinda scared of the car. i plan to put a twin turbo kit on it or a single turbo on it dont know yet but it cost alot! I LOVE SUPRAS AND 300ZX'S BUT SUPRAS LOOK SEXIER!

  • @ElectricFrankie go twin turbo its better becuz the single turbo as u saw here in these supras u would think they would do alot but twin turbos give u best of both worlds lil low end and high end power as u saw the z32 demonstrate because twin turbo systems have a smaller and bigger turbo the smaller turbo requires less exhaust pressure then that of the bigger turbo so not much lag there so while the small turbo is doing it thing the 2nd turbo is right behind ready to kick in for top end power

  • @ElectricFrankie uhm i would just get the whole engine cuz the whole thing configured diff the block is a diff i think the compression i would add the turbos to ur n/a cuz the compression is high already the twin turbo engine is lower compression for example an NA engine is 9 or 10:1 compression thats too high for turbo or supercharger u need a lowe compression engine like 8:1 compression for example i dont like hondas but i wanted to turbo a 4cyl dont every force induct a vtec engine go LS

  • @Z32spdstr the LS integra engine is beefier the block is bigger so why not have both huh? the gsr doesntr have that kick only top en cuz the vtec kicks in at 5000 grand i think turbos kick in at 2500 or 3000 grand then your top end kicks in even more then the vtec will ever make. so yeah just change the whole engine u'll spend more money on trying to rebuild the engine for turbo when u can swap and hhave extra money for the upgrades like turbos waste gates which is where the boost comes from

  • I used to own a 350Z; got it in 2006 and looooved that car. I went to jail for speeding (I know, it's stupid but it was fun) and so I got rid of the car and bought a honda civic. in Aug of 2008. I only have 2 more years to go before the lease is up and I plan on getting either a 370Z or a 300ZX Twin Turbo, which I would then modify step by step.

  • @FFRPWNER1 well I'm running 20psi on stockers with supporting mods and lemme tell you I did feel quite a noticeable difference going from 16lbs to 20. Although it boosts up to 20psi, it drops back down to 16 at 7K+ rpm.

  • @FFRPWNER1 Don't take it from me, talk to Greg Dupree who ran 24lbs on a customer's car. Greg Duprees' 450 WHP record has been broken since as someone broke 500 WHP on stock turbos earlier this year.

  • @joe645733 I use a Borg Warner s480 for my 13b RX-8. Almost as big as my engine ( which is not saying much since it is technically a 1.3 liter engine)

  • my cousin's friend had a 94 300zx he had so much under the hood, it had around 650 hp had tt, intake, headers, exhaust, i think it had a blow off valve maybe the engine was originally turbo charged

  • this is back in 06. The Supra is a 5spd NA-T with a T67 running about 21lbs on race gas, and 17 on pump. At 0:40 the supra pulls but it ran very low on race fuel, so the AEM cutout as a way to prevent engine damage. Supra had to go to a local chevron. After that all runs were on 93octane. TT Z's have a badass top end, na supras dont. But its impressive how the supra was there considering the fact that the Z had race fuel all night and the rear end advantage.dont ask me how i know. i just know.

    The 93 Twin Turbo Supra's have a Getrag 6 speed transmission (V160), which is the same company that makes transmissions for the R34

    The 86.5-92 Turbo Supra's have a R154, which is good for 500+ the only problem is the thrust washer and the transmissions don't like to be power shifted.

    Other then that, The transmissions for the supras are pretty strong. May need rebuild after a while, but strong

  • Actually that's true too. I forgot about the weak Supra Tranny. Seen one blow up at the streeet drags. Didn't even get to launch lol. Were as the Z32 gear box is built like a brick sh*t house. In face, it the gear box of choice when the 180/200/240sx boys decide to upgrade. :D On that, I'll agree! And I'll conceed that the VG bottom end is quite strong too, but the fact remains the overalll engine of the supra is stronger, lasts longer, and is faaaaar eaiser to work on. I Still love the Z .

  • You are very wrong claiming the supra Getrag tranny is weak go look up Ryan Woons Supra located in AZ. That car is pushing 1400 hp on the stock 6 speed tranny. Thats far more than the what the 300zx tranny is capable of...

    C'mon, the Z32 can't take the beating like MKIV can. That's a fact! I owned about 5 TT z32's in my life time, and not once did I ever hit beyond 402RWHP on BPU+++ upgrades. On my 94 TT BPU+ I hit 416RWHP without a problem. C'mon! Don't say the z32 has the same potencial, because it doesn't unless you drop big money on the car. Any car can go fast with dinero my friend. But the MKIV can hit 400RWHP with simple BPU!

  • This is true. I'm a Z32 TT owner myself...and it's just true. Not saying I'm happy about it, but it's the truth. If you drop $15k + into the car....both have about the same potential, but for just BPU...Supra definnitely has more potential.

  • And to settle the score on some of the other commments:

    Supra Turbos DO have unbreakable transmissions. 300ZX TT transmissions are weaker UNLESS it is a 98+ spec transmission, which is easily capable of holding 1000+rwhp. And in my opinion, the Z is slightly sexier--although also slightly less reliable, and much more difficult to work on. Both are great cars IMO; Supras are more expensive, but have more out of the box potential. As for the MR2 (hushg2000)...I've heard they leak oil incessantly

  • Every car leaks oil after being driven for about 17 years. I've had a couple of 91's and a 93. They are great until the water pump goes out, than it's off to pulling the motor down to change a simple water pump, that's the flaw on this car...no room to work on... Oil leak? I never had that problem randomly. My valve cover gaskets and bottom end were solid. Normal maintance and the car runs like a champ.

  • The Z32's also have one of cheapest injector & coil packs that has ever been installed from the factory! These cars are a piece of shit when it comes to the fuel systems once you hit the 100k mile. If I had a penny for each Z owner who blew up some internal do to the fuel system failing while making Hwy pulls I would be a rich bastard by now. My nephew has a 1991 TT z32 as we speak, and it has the same fucking issue it always has, injectors!!!:( Damn, the Mr2's do a better job in that deparment.

  • I have bought several Z's in the past with 100K+ miles w/ their original injectors and coil packs. I simply dissagree with what you are saying since I have never really saw them being an issue.

    to me the biggest issues on the Z have been the old worn out wireharnesses and rubber coolant hoses.

    I usually treat the car with Lucas Gas Oil once a year to clean injectors. Coilpacks, never gone bad. on this car you do need money, since everything is old, and old shit breaks.

    What type of racing do you do? Track or 1/4 mile pulls??

    My nephews car has about 145,000 miles and 2 injectors are out. Running on 4 cyclinders as we speak. Common 300zx issue.

  • I only enjoy highway racing. Dead stops are just too much damage to any car in my opinion

    My top Z is fully built with too many things to name but has .40+ wiseco pistons, disco potato turbos, 740cc PE injectors, and was personally tuned by Ashspec. It pushes about 750 HP. Fully built to me also means, all new undercarriage, suspension, relocations, and great paint.

    On injector problems again, its usually the fuel rail and lower intake plenum. Just get some newstyle Nismo 555's.

  • I had in 1998-2004 A Toyota Supra Sp67 p-trim. I hit 686RWHP. Old skool HKS VPC,AFC,BCC. Stock internals.

    I sold last year my 1997 T-61 500+RWHP at 18PSI. Stock mass! Just a Boost controller. :)

    Now I have a 1995 Sp71 786RWHP on stock internals. Map Ecu. Every car that I've own has been on stock internals.

    That is the difference between the Z and the MKIV. I have to do nothing to my bottom end to get the numbers I want.

  • Well let me just say this...

    If you think like me, you would replace internals for any car that will go over 500 whp. The Stock TT's internals are good for 700 HP, dont get me wrong, but the idea of upgrading is for ASSURANCE.

    Any TTZ will give you those numbers too (w/ injectors/turbos/ecu upgrades).

    Personally I rather build it.

    My built Z's internals are all rated for over 1200HP, but I wasnt going for that. Maybe with some race gas and timing change I would hit 1K

  • @Foxy300ZX Stock pistons on the 300zx are cast and will not hold out for very long beyond 500rwhp with detonation being an enevitable (cast parts are not a good candidates for boost). The rods and crank are forged though. Supras definetly have more potential out of the box and are a hell of alot easier to work on. Plus Ryan Woon's WOTM car has demonstrated on numerous occasions that the stock 6 speed Getrag can withstand 1400hp.

  • It doesn't last forever like that. I have many Supra friends that break their cars even at 550 RWHP. It's all in the setup and tune. And there have been Z's making 750 RWHP on stock internals. The only true difference between the Z and Supra as far as potential goes, is the owners of Supras dump MUCH MUCH MUCH more money into bigger and better setups than Z owners do. Too many TT guys dick around with weak ass tiny turbos trying to squeeze out everything they can because they're afraid of lag.

  • it's more than that...it's about practicality. Perhaps most Z owners don't want to race around on a hwy all day? Perhaps they drive it daily or perhaps they don't care about peeling out in every gear?

  • ya i agree with this. i know first hand i make parts for Z1 MOTORSPORTS the biggest aftermarket company for z32's in the world. most z guys get 555cc injectors basic mods and and push 18psi on stock turbos usually average whp is 480 on stock turbos. but the vg will handle 750whp for about a year and one month then they detonate i own one thats why im going with carillo rods and weisco pistons for ASSURANCE these will handle 1500whp no prob.

  • No one makes 480 RWHP on stock turbos without nitrous. The highest recorded power made on stock turbos was 450 RWHP and that was Greg Dupree @ Specialty Z.

  • Show me any dyno graph of a stock turbo Z32 making 480 RWHP. I don't care if its a dynojet. Hell show me a 450 RWHP on a Mustang dyno. Sport 500's don't count. Nitrous doesn't count. The only person to grace 450 was Greg Dupree on a customer's car @ 24 lbs.

  • @dipzag21 To make 450+ on stock turbos you're going to need every supporting modification out there as well as methanol and/or race fuel. 24lbs+ is needed from the stock turbos to make over 450 RWHP.

  • I have to agree with you,the only reason I replaced my injectors was upgrade from stock to 880 to 1000.the motors on over 1khp stock coil packs and engine loom.The box has handled the power well so far.Albeit its a 99 model fairlady z32.

  • Agreed plus the 300zx TT motor is a nightmare to work on.

  • The only thing I dont like about supras are, when you shift the gear feels rubberish and cheap. Whereas the z feels sporty and more compact.

  • Its good to see a Vg-Z32 giving those 2j-Supras a run for their money.
