Age of Empires = Stone age to Iron age with ancient civilizations

Age of Empires 2 = after the fall of Rome/Dark Ages to the Renaissance Era

Age of Empires 3 = Renaissance to the Industrial Era

@SaikoTaiko Well, Age of Mythology was sort of a spin-off of AoE1, since it involved ancient civilizations AND mythical creatures and God-powers.

I have it, i just wish i was able to have bigger armies. But aw :/ hope you find a way to get it working again.

Age of Empires 2 was my first ever strategy game. I loved it so much that when I got a mac for college I made sure I had a mac version of AoE 2 on it. I still play it

i dont no y every1 puts AoEIII down so much. if uv got a pc that runs it up to speed it is much better than AoEII. it has all the same features plus even more. we didnt complain when they brought out the conquerors. think of it as another expansion with enhanced graphics

People put it down because it involves less strategy. I personally think it's a great game and it's a lot of fun to play, but I think AOK/AOC has a better strategic element. In AOK you have to focus more on defense and you have to get different types of troops and use them in different formations to complement each other to get the most out of them. You do that too in AOE3 (infantry/cavalry/artillery) but not to the same extent.

but the video is suppose to recognize and honor aoe2, it's even got music from the aoe2X. just because it's 3-d does not make it just about aoe3. look in the video, do you notice any 'colonial-age' items? such as muskets, or musketteers? sure there is gunfire in the last clip but do you remember the turks special "castle-built" unit: The Jannisary? yes, there were muskets in aoe2 also.
