Hello Mel, Fasciculation is also a by-product of the anti-psychotics. I would be more concerned about permanent motor neuron damage. These drugs although helpful in many cases do not have much history of the very long term effects (more than 20 years) of dosing...regards...
@oneaburns of course lots of people do it, I do it sometimes everyday. Simply moving your leg up and down isn't bad at all, but what if this doesn't stop, and it's completely out of your control and last longer than you WANT it to last (greater than an hour). Of course oneaburns at any point in time during your leg shaking, when someone tells you to stop, you're able to, this disorder is when it's irresistible and you can't get yourself to stop. Please be more considerate.
However the above symtom the guy is demonstrating is called "Clonus" a few beats is ok however if it is sustained as in this case it indicates a problem wi the feedback sysystem of the brain i.e. brainstem etc. such as arnold chiari malformation, Cerebral palsy.
I have that I can inititate it in the leg and it will keep going until I make a mental or physical attempt for it to cease. I believe it is also related to clonus. and cerebral atxia.
Which I also have . being the unfortunate recipient of Cerebral palsy,Arnold Chiari Mal-formation, Dandy Walker Sydnrome, Partial agenisis of the corpus collosum involving the splenium. Live goes on! I have had this all my life. so to almost be pushed to suicide I am sorry for you NJmalibu313.
Hey, I am 18 and I took Zoloft and skipped a few doses here and there and now I have this really really bad.. It makes me want to saw off my legs and die. Ive have it for 2 weeks now and it causing a lot of distress for my boyfriend and my family too.. Please tell me this will go away... please
@JessElite7992 - did you talk to your doctor? Beta blockers like propranolol might work. also benzodiazepenes are a possibility like lorazepam and diazepam. I hope you get better :-/
@cmcnall1987 Yeah great advice. A person gets severe and traumatic side effects from a psychiatric drug, so you want to give them MORE. I see no logic in that.
The problem with the system today is because of all the lies. You think psychiatric medications help people but they frequently produce more symptoms and signs of distress than what they help. Give one drug for this, another to combat the side-effects of the first, another to combat the combined effects of the first 2. It's stupidity.
noticed as resperidone dosage was increased I was pacing the floor. So I quit it altogether without tapering down the dosage and I went through hell this week. I paced the floor for two days without sleep now I get some sleep but it is still hard to sit still. I feel I have to move my feet constantly.
@JessElite7992 Yes, it finally went away. It lasted for about two weeks. It was certainly one of the worst times in my life. Just below kidney stones and abcessed tooth.
@daemontrainer stop taking that shit man.... I took resperidone for awhile. I would take it in the morning and realize "hey i can't walk down the road my muscles are too tight" I got a shot of haladol (which is resperidols evil cousin) and then I couldn't move i was drooling all over myself and i tried to eat and the food just came out of my mouth. I also got that restlessness and pacing you are talking about. Years later I am not on any of these meds and now i cant stop moving.
I have a combo of mild-complex Tourrett sydrome. I took fluphenazin for four years. As those years went by, my pill wasnt working and I couldnt control my Touretts. Last year november I consomed 9 1mg pill of fluphenazing in a 6 hour period. I would never forget that. I called my doc and told him whats going on and then told me I had an Akathesia episode. So rushed to the ER and gave me some benadrill and boy that shit made me feel like a million bucks. No longer take Fluphenazine.
When I worked in psych I wondered why patients would pace back and forth all day. Then I had a breakdown myself and, after being forced to take Haldol and Cogentin, felt like a wild animal in a cage. Although I slept a LOT ('couldn't stay awake, and had technicolor nightmares when I slept), while I was awake I had a very STRONG urge to pace back and forth. Although I was told I would have to be on neuroleptics for the rest of my life or get sick again, I've been off them now for over 26 yrs.
OMG I had severe akathisia after I was given Compazine (an antipsych drug) in the ER for the treatment of mild Nausea. I asked the nurse what he was putting in my IV cuz im VERY sensitive w/ meds..and he said "oh nothing just something for Nausea"..IMMEDIATELY within a minute my heartrate went up to 175 bpm and I was moving and shaking all over the place..i felt like i had bugs all over me and like i wanted to jump out of my skin... it was the worse feeling I have ever felt in my life!
Once it is injected into you you can't stop it! They try to give Benedryl, but for me that just made it WORSE. It is better not to ever give this drug to anyone. Ever.
this shit sicked not to mention i was at school when it happened and i alerady have social anxiety.......... i felt like i could not move i wanted to run but when i used my legs i wanted to sit.......
this was one of many symptoms I had, and lasted for a couple months. This almost pushed me to suicide, and I feel for anyone who will ever have to experience it
