I think everyone's missed on this one, even though a commentator said it. The 96 car hit the brakes in the right lane on pit road. The right lane is the fast lane because the pits are on the left, so everyone is expected to run pit road speed in the right lane. He should have pulled into the left lane before slowing down for his pit stall.

im a long time race with the NASA Racing Organization, and while in pit lane 1: they are making sure their crew is ready. 2: trying not to use their brakes because they are hot enough and the really want them to cool down. and 3: they are watching out for the other cars so stuff like that doesn't happen.
