  • I like the south park answer "cant god be the answer to why and not the answer to how?"

  • @nimbonate It can't though, that is a very dangerous line of thinking.

  • I read an article about how people like Sam Harris tries to explain how his beliefs are better and you should believe his beliefs. Rather than pick a religion, he would rather come up with ways to deceive you into thinking you are wrong to believe in religion. The reality of it is this, to be an Atheist you believe there is no God or Gods. So in believing there is no higher power is essentially a religion, it just does not contain God.

  • Oh Sam. You are so damn amazing to listen to. Eloquence is not good enough of a word for you.

  • It's kind of messed up how you people keep mocking each other because what you believe is different. I don't try to force my religion on anybody. I let people believe what they whant to believe. I for example believe both in god and in evolution. I think it is dumb for you guys to fight over things that you clearly don't understand. Don't get mad at others because they do not see the world the way you do.

  • I believe in God and Jesus but not most people's idea of religion. I don't believe that God hates gays and other sinners so much. If he hated them so much, why did He sacrifice His son for us?

  • Religious people are arrogant, no doubt. But the arrogance among atheists equals religious arrogance. I hear nothing but yammering all the live long day about how religion is the cause of all wars and murder and genocide. I guess the atheistic regimes of the former Soviet Union, China, and Cambodia treated all their people wonderfully. There was no genocide in the tens of millions, right? One of the basic tenets of these communist regimes was there was no god. Therefore the state is god.

  • @fourcams Indeed so the issue is unreasonable thinking. It seems then the solution might be reasonable thinking which sheds religion and the state.

  • @BrainInSkull Yes, unreasonable thinking is the problem. But shedding religion and the state is just plain laziness. Why shed them? Why not be discerning about the details instead? How come atheists think not one religious person ever came up with a good idea? Something that might be worth embracing? When Jesus talked about love and forgiveness, was he just being a fool?

  • @fourcams I think people can contribute great idea and they might happen to be religious but my slant on religion is that you can't reasonably take it seriously. Love and forgiveness are indeed worthwhile but one doesn't need Jesus for that.

I've realized that it's not possible to logically embrace the government without being immoral. They just don't mix. What other business or relationship uses the threat of force against it's customers/partners?

  • When people talk about what a sham religion is, it's almost always the sexual mores that religion advocates. There is hardly any other basic tenet of moral behavior that anyone has an issue with. Most people agree that murder, stealing, lying, etc. are wrong. Listen to what this guy holds up first - gay marriage. What about poverty? Hunger? Discrimination? Genocide? Oh that's right. These are things churches and religious groups are working on. So that frees up his time. Carry on.

  • I think the whole humans understanding god thing is a ridiculous notion in itself and is refuted in itself from both secular and religious perspectives. I think Christians contradict themselves by saying I know what god wants when it suits them and then "the lord works in mysterious ways" when it doesn't. If you want to believe in creation then you should know in the fallen conditon, humans cannot know god. Let them believe, let the athiests not believe as long as the moral center remains intact

  • you guys just dont get how religions work... your so unintelligent that you dont know the MEANING of religion, sure.. there are religious wackos that take religion too seriously... but, gah i cant explain it but you athiests out there just... dont get it xD

  • @Lukeclooney hmmm, yea, i'm thinking we understand it only too well. in fact, many atheists are deconverted christians who actually READ the Bible and became hard-core atheists after reading it (see Bart Earhman in this regard). And people that claim to believe, but don't really take it seriously are the most despicable of all. If it's true, and eternal torture or eternal bliss are at stake, it should be taken VERY seriously. If you just believe for convenience's sake, you are dishonest

  • thecosmos003 - #1 I'm not Catholic. #2 And rape happens everywhere around you- not just churches. #3 God isn't religion. . Blame religion (mans interpretation of God) all you want, but don't be foolish to assume that there is no God ( a real superior being) because of your lack of understanding/knowledge of him. that's pure arrogance.

#4 I don't pretend anything. I've seen miracles with my own eyes that science cannot explain. that's why I believe.

  • its too bad that God is real and this guy doesn't know it. I thought scientific people we re taught to reason and think hypothetically. I believe we're to be concerned for the welfare of humanity. Good point. But you don't have to blame and bash religion for its lack of priority. Dude. Just take a look at history and see where the greatest welfare for mankind has come from...the CHURCHES (aka...those who believe in GOD). I want this guy to come worship and pray with me-- GOD IS REAL.

  • @mtnmusicmaker

Heh you're precisely what he is criticizing. Look at you pretending to know there is a supernatural thing called god that exists. It's pathetic. Speak rationally. Churches rape young boys get real you psycho.

  • 25 retarded mindless brainwashed slaves dislike this video.

  • Goodwrench, as I said, learn to write... "seem" not seen and "Capital", not capitol. Once again, you prove your ignorance and lack of education. Don't bother writing me again. It will not be read by me...

  • This butthurt atheist doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about.

  • Haha. Communist News Network at it's "finest", eh? I laugh at how much people love bashing "Christians". Even us real Christians find the stereotypical "YOU'LL BURN IN HELL, YOU SINNER" people annoying. I'm not forcing my religion on you. The Taliban tried that with planes and bombs, and look how many right-minded Americans are flocking to their Sunday Services (sarcasm... it's NOT happening). Please try not to judge us Christians so quickly. Maybe listen to us for once... we're not all crazy...

  • The Supreme Court declared atheism as a religion therefore I guess you'll have to ditch atheism as well Sam Harris. I guess we should talk about morality in ways that Sam Harris deems acceptable. Typical pseudo-intellectual liberal. No surprise it's featured on CNN. CNN is rubbish and always has been.

  • @Bagatronic No, the SCOTUS did not. You're making stuff up. And you're only attacking CNN because it's not Fox News.

  • Is it possible to believe in God, but disagree with a lot of "stances" the Catholic church says: the denial of evolution, abortion, gay marriage? please answer

  • @StevenDWorksOfArt sure, but it wouldn't be a Christian God at least lol

  • Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)

    Jesus the Christ

  • @MrRedPajamas You live in your own little world Red... I see no one can even send you a PM, but your friends... lmao... I wish you well...

  • This guy's a "philosopher"? What is he? Thirty years old? LOL.

And people wonder why the Earth is going to Hell in a hand basket.

You can't be a "philosopher" until you are at least 60 years old or more.

And even then, your "ideas" are still very suspect because, let's face it, you're a human with a finite mind.

  • @MrRedPajamas lol !!! And just where is it written that a philosopher must be at least 60 years old or more ??? I see a philosopher as anyone that is deeply versed in philosophy... And yes, their ideas should be scrutinized like anyone else... I'm guessing you were home schooled right MrRed ???

    ^..^

  • @TheWildAssCopyCat

No, but your mom was.(home schooled)

  • @MrRedPajamas Your a human with a brainwashed mind.

  • Thank you dear, Sam Harris. At least I know not all people are idiots. :D

  • Im sorry but I feel that Greed has done more damage to this world than religion has. This man represents the Greed because he's trying to persuade people to stand for nothing and those who stand for nothing will fall for anything

  • @TheBlackConscience

You're a fucking dumbass. How about you stop staying stupid shit here on Youtube. This guy stands for logic and reason you dumb fuck. You stand for imaginary creatures, nice.

  • @ Shadowlit001 man shut the fuck up you piece of athiest shit. Id rather believe in a GOD that created all of what you seen then to believe the imaginary fairytale that atheists fill into people's minds. There's no Logic being said here you prick only satanism.

  • @TheBlackConscience

Wow you are a dumb mother fucker. I guess you believe God made AIDS, ebola, down syndrom, herpies, Small Pox and every other disease too. What a loving god.

Fuck you! If you want to get to heaven so bad, go climb a wall of dicks.

  • @ Shadowlit001 LOL you're just fuckin dumb ass arent you? See thats what I love about this, having my strong faith just pisses the shit out of dumb knuckleheads just like you. And I suppose you think we came from Apes? well maybe you did, It's no wonder I saw your Mom at the zoo today

  • @TheBlackConscience

Was she throwing shit at people again? I think they subscribe to Atheism because the concept of a Creator, God and Faith in the unseen, is too difficult for them to comprehend. Atheism is easier just like Evolution is easier than Divine Design to accept. I think it was Confucius that said to leary of what is easy to take, for it may be a trap in disguise. Or something along that line. They just want the easy answers in life and don't want to work for real rewards.

  • @Shadowlit001

A wall of dicks.... So you guys are going to from a wall all the way to heaven for him to climb? How sporting of you all.

  • @Shadowlit001

Actually, yes he did. He didn't tell the idiot ministers to go into the jungle and fuck the little monkeys though. That was the devils idea. Disease isn't a punishment from God. It's a challenge to the spirit for some and a self-balancing control for others. Like you don't have to use a condom but you risk catching VD or Aids if you don't. The control there is you. It's your choice to not use it. The consequences can be very high. God only wants what's best for us. Is that so bad?

  • @DrGoodwrench64

Damn you're a tard. I guess little babies who get born with AIDS were to stupid to use a condom or fucked a monkey and its their punishment huh?

What about kids born with Down Syndrom? What about kids born with missing limbs or blind. What about all the people who died from Small Pox?

You call this a challenge of the spirit? Give me a break, that's fucking stupid. And then to turn around and say that God only wants the best for us? Don't make me laugh.

  • @Shadowlit001

OK, lets say t hat you have a son and he wants to learn to skateboard. You being the father know the dangers of skateboarding. You could deny your son stating that "you know what's best" and leave it at that. Or you could allow him to learn for himself the first time he gets injured the dangers involved.

God wants us to learn for ourselves. Sure, He could come down here and tell us or he could let us find out for ourselves. But lessons learned the hard way are always remembered.

  • @Shadowlit001

The only tard here is the one that starts off a sentence with "little babies". Its not the babies fault moron! It's the consenting adults that make the baby who own the responsibility. What a fucking jackass statement to make. Only a true tard would say something THAT fucking stupid. You should just shut you pie hole now, your education is showing through.

So now that we all know who the jackass tard is...... NEXT!

  • @DrGoodwrench64

You're a dumb sadistic piece of shit like your god if you think a child should suffer for his or her parents mistake.

The world would be a much better place without shit stains like you preaching insanity and hate. And you don't know jackshit about my education because you don't know me. Oh, wait, I guess theists are used to pretending to know shit they don't.

  • Comment removed

  • @Shadowlit001

It would be nice if we were born free of the mistakes our parents made, but we're not. So like it or not, that's the reality of our world. Whether we think it's fair or not the fact of the matter is that it's the Parents fault those babies are born to begin with. So blaming God for those atrocities is like like blaming the sun for rising.

It must be nice to sit in a position where you can remain blameless for suffering that goes on around you, but what have you done to fix it? ZIP!

  • Very well said DrGoodwrench64 my point exactly these people are too narrow minded they only believe what's in front of them. Then in return they criticize others for having a reason to live, for having a reason to look at life as a gift from above. How is it that everything about earth is created so perfectly that even atheists dont have an answer of how this is?

  • @blackconscience : clearly you're oblivious towards the scientific explanation of these types of questions.

-_- star formation, the formation and destruction of galaxies, black holes, these must all seem like far-fetched fallacies compared to your God-is-divine-and-omniscient explanation. what the hell are you doing on these boards anyway cretin? you're at an intellectual disadvantage with your paltry viewpoints! piffle! BE GONE RODENT!

  • @ PokrPro21 LOL and you think that those happen just by chance? that you were put here on earth by chance? and by insulting me you somehow can prove your point? pathetic man lol

  • @PokrPro21

LOL STFU dumbshit. If name calling is the best you can offre, stop. You're only hurting your side of the argument.

  • @DrGoodwrench64

There is not argument because you don't accept logic and reason. That's why some of us don't even bother to try to explain it to your dumb ass. We just let dumb theists like you talk and expose your own stupidity.

Face it, your posts are helping support this vid by showing how fucking stupid you theist trash are. Good job baboo.

  • @DrGoodwrench64 LMAO! Name calling seems to be the best YOU can do. Since every other sentence is calling someone a tard or a dumbshit. How's this for name calling. You are simpleton, who's morality is borrowed from incestuous, narrow minded doctrines.

  • It's funny how people say the "you're going to hell" phrase ALL THE TIME. Doesn't the Bible teach that God is the only who judges? ...then who the hell are you? Also, as a Christian you're suppose to forgive. OMG, 2 women want to marry? HOW IN THE FUCK DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR LIFE ANYWAY? Religious wackos are SO fucking stupid. God = Santa Claus, same thing.

  • @MarkFaust

Yes, the bible does say that God has the final word on the subject but it also lines out the criteria by which that judgment is made. Hey, there's every possibility that he'll see the error of his ways and correct his thinking and get straight with God. Until then though, he's just talking out the side of his neck and making shit up as he goes as far as I'm concerned. And anyone that agrees with him is a fool.

So who is more foolish? the Fool or the one that follows him?

  • THE ATF THATS Y

  • This man, is absolutely fucking brilliant.

  • and to the jackass Dr. Good wrench below....

GOD-DAMN! Shame on you for being so publicly foolish you cretin.

  • @PokrPro21

Hey man, there's no sign on the door that says Atheists Only. And you can't tell me I'm the first person to disagree with this moron. So don't try to act self-righteous and say I'm the fool. I could say the same thing about you too, but I didn't. Up to this point all my comments have been about the guy in the video, and none of you directly. But a few of dumber ones here have changed that now, haven't they dickweed. You're right about 1 thing, it IS a God Damned shame.

  • @DrGoodwrench64 : You're too funny. Doctor my ass! This 'moron' you're referring to is on another plane intellectually compared to your ignorant, delusional ass! Keep referring to your bible as 'truth', your God as the all-knowing, all-loving father and lastly go watch some pro-life/evangelical videos with the rest of your 'ignorant-is-bliss' flock! (Damn it must be beautiful living in 'IMAGINATIONLAND'.) So long lepton...... :-|

  • This man is an amazing realist! I recommend reading his book "The End of Faith"! The backdoor information he tells about religious convictions is utterly disturbing to say the least....

  • this video wont play...

  • Drg and Gus... Maybe you two morons can take your ridiculous arguments elsewhere? Your pseudo-philosophical and sophomoric meanderings are not appreciated by neither the elite left nor the dogmatically self-righteous right. You both sound abysmally dumb, not smart, Posers!

  • @giovannimiami

And you can go fuck yourself pal. This is a free country and I can say what I want, where I want. Why don't you take your fears of the unknown and of things you can't see, feel or touch and feel as stupid as you sound as you can't see past the end of your nose. Look who's talking you wanna be elitest. You trying to play the Left and the Right at the same time and failing on both sides. You can't be an elitest and dogmatically self-righteous at the same time, fucktard. STFU.

  • @DrGoodwrench64

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah... You just keep confirming my comments about you and your friend; oh, and also learn how to write. Your narrative makes absolutely no sense and your cursing and insults are typical of someone who can't debate, you Moron with a capital M.

  • @giovannimiami

Of the 4 months my comments have been posted here, you are the only one that seems to have had trouble understanding what I wrote. So, it would seen that the only moron here, with a capitol MORON, is you!

Not only that, but your comment is so late and so lame, that it's meaningless at this point (just like you).

  • He's right.

  • @slicingwater

He's going to be taking the Express route to Hell. And soon I think.

Don't forget, the ONLY million-man army in the world is (unfortunately) is the Catholic Church. Now aren't you glad Church and state are separate? I know I am. They'd brand me a the Devil Incarnate and burn me alive for my views. LOL!!!

    See you all in Hell!!!

  • I sooo would have gone with a black color chair instead.

  • In a way religion just gives "sinning" the go-ahead.

  • Fuck. I hate Christians so much. Really would like to see this BS circle of lies eradicated from the earth. "Gay people are demons they shouldn't get married etc." They're fucking people that are attracted to their own sex, thats fucking it. I don't get it, in a religion of universal brotherhood, peace, love and all that other bullshit they attempt to radiate from their fantastical web of supposed ideals their nothing but fake, arrogant, biased, closed minded, cultist motherfuckers.

  • @OrientOranges

Fuck you! You don't like it? There are 195 other nations to choose from. pick one and GTFO if you're so unhappy here. No one ever said that gays were demons (except for the Catholic church, who's Priests molest alter boys and cover it up). Gay marriage is sham. Gay marriage is there so gay couples can have all the same benefits as every other married couple. Tax benefits, medical, etc. even though it goes against the primary morals this country was built on. So STFU already, shit.

  • That's probably the most intelligent response I'll get from a theist. You know you just contradicted yourself by saying gay marriage is a sham but saying they're not devils (We know you think they're devils secretely). And no, I'm not going to leave this country, after it's reformed by younger people religion will be more or less just a bad memory for this country. The "primary morals this country was built on" LMAO. Yes, the morals that burned "witches" alive at the stake 300 years ago? Idiot.

  • @OrientOranges im one of those young people, im glad i wasnt born in the dark ages, i would have been on the stake

  • @DrGoodwrench64

You're obvioulsy a repressed homosexual. I suggest you go out and suck some cocks then maybe you will not be so tense and can actually stop being a hypocritical fuck.

  • There is not enough love and goodness in the world to permit giving any of it away to imaginary beings. In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point. A casual stroll through a lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything. After coming into contact with a religious man I always feel I must wash my hands. Christians call it faith ... I call it the herd.

  • fuck religion, this guy's spot on.

  • video not working

  • religious leaders only want a good suply of money, political power and children.

  • If they wanted to actually try to change minds, they should have used Richard Dawkins instead.

He is much more convincing, and provides better arguments.

Plus, he has a boss accent.

  • Well, I hate to break this to you, but god isn't real. There are two reasons you believe in him. 1. Your geographic place of birth and 2. Your parents indoctrinated before you could evaluate their claims. You believe in God for the same reasons you believe in Santa. Thats pretty damn question begging, not Sam Harris's arguments.

  • @DrOman5596 - Why Theists believe in God is logically irrelevant to whether or not Sam Harris was begging the question. So is your assertion that God isn't real.

  • Those two points were not related. Nice try. You have a very critical eye toward youtube comments, how about you start applying it toward fairy tales?

  • All right, I'll bite: How so?

  • @Saerain - Well for example he talks about how religion has convinced us that there are other concerns besides suffering and concludes it's "completely insane" without giving a logical argument as to why his claim is true.

  • he refers to the koran LOL ! too funny .

  • @stonerj0e Maybe I missed something. What's so humorous?

  • It's spelled the Quran, dude.

  • What makes him right about what humans should and shouldn't do? In some area of the world women brace there neck with a metal pipe and when they get old their neck becomes so frail it would break without the brace. Does that make them wrong? Self abuse basically and yet people have come to accept it. Iran and areas surrounding it have been the way they are for years, why are they wrong now?

I wonder if Sam knows what he is talking about...

  • As a Christian minister, it probably should be a lot more difficult than it is for me to say that I agree with this man on pretty much everything. From a specifically Christian perspective, we tend to forget much of Jesus' life between his birth and death, and this does lead to great ignorance and arrogance and hurtful inaction. True religion is religion that affirms human beings of all kinds and lifts them from their oppression. Religion that oppresses is nothing more than archaic tragedy.

  • And the guy in this video, is a complete imbecile! Some of the things he says sound like he's making stuff up to fill time or he talks about 1 or 2 rare instances as if they are the norm. This guys is a joke and doesn't represent any aspect of a life with religion, regardless of which religion it is. The Wake-up call is coming for all of us. Something tells me you're all going to miss that bus and then notice how few of you are left behind. Then maybe you see the folly of your ways. Till then..

  • How do you explain what happens to the energy that is running through you right now? Albert Einstein even thought that, at the time of death, one's energy or soul uncouples from the body and has to go somewhere, he just didn't speculate where. He did say that the law of Conservation of Energy dictates that energy can't be created or destroyed, only transmuted in to a different form. So knowing this is true, you still think it's just game over at death?

Can no one see the divine design?

    21 grams.

  • Albert Einstein even thought that, at the time of death, one's energy or soul uncouples from the body and has to go somewhere.

Sorry Einstein did not believe in an immaterial soul.

That 21 grams BS is sillyNot only are you suggesting a soul has mass but this material is he heavyer on average then the matter in our bodies, becuase if the soul was lighter the the material in our bodies it would add weight when it left, Like letting go of a helium balloon would do.

  • I never said that Einstein believed in the soul, moron. Do you always read sooooo much into what is written? Try reading what's written and not adding to or taking away from it.

What he said was that at the time of death, the energy that supports and drives the body MUST go somewhere. The laws of physics dictate that it must happen. Einstein knew that and just speculated about it. However, the underlying question is: WHAT is that energy?

And in case you didn't know, energy DOES have mass.

  • To say energy has mass is like saying red has cherries. It's incoherent.

  • We don't know what or why it happens, but it does happen to every person that dies. a 3/4 of an ounce drop in body weight at the moment of death. There was some study done several years ago that confirmed this. But no one can say what that 21 grams is or where it goes. It's a speculative belief that it must be a persons soul. And the speculation makes sense IF you believe that 1)you were created be God & 2)He endowed you with an immortal soul. Since energy can't be destroyed, it all makes sense.

  • We do not know that this happens. One man, Duncan MacDougall (who postulated that this would be true before performing the experiments), reported this result and no one has been able to reproduce it. It is a little more than suspect.

  • You all would rather believe that when you die, that's it?

Sorry but I dont think Anyone simply chooses what they believe, We are either convinced something is true ,or not We can force ourselves to believe what we dont believe.

  • Yes we do. We ALL choose to believe or not to believe. There are things that you can not not believe in. Like Air. There is simply no denying Air. We need it to live, it's all around us. Yet we can't see it or touch it per say, but we have faith in it. We know it's always going to be there.

Sure, we can force ourselves to believe something or not. But it's also obvious when someone does or doesn't believe in something. Like you. You deny it, but you're a believer in God, so quit denying it.

  • @DrGoodwrench64 Woooooooooooooooooooow.

  • Air? Really, dude? We have faith in air? There's no evidence for air? What the fuck?

  • i dont have faith in air at all. i know air exists. it has weight, mass, and effect measurable in the real world.

  • That's a terrible analogy. I can feel air If I'm going fast enough, I can see air if their is enough pollution. Re-think your analogies please and stop shoving your god down peoples throats.

  • @DrG , I ve responded to quite a few of your comments in tandem, Which question are refering specificly.

And Im sorry all sudies done on intersessory prayer have show to does not work or even has negative effect.

Im sorry aswell But connecting quantum physics to prayer makes you sound as loony as Deepak

  • @DrGoodwrench64 Prayer has not been proven scientifically to work. If it had been we would not be having this debate.

  • Can you show me how prayer has been proven "scientifically to work."

  • You know ignorance is something you shoudn't flaunt especially when all else points to the contrary. Case in point don't tell people to pray in a hospital they tend to do worse than the people who don't.

  • @DrGoodwrench64 We don't believe what we want to believe, we believe what is the most logical and what we have actual evidence for. I'd rather believe there's life after death, honestly, but it doesn't make any sense. You're right. You don't understand.

  • 'With the sheer magnitude of hard facts and mounting evidence proving that Darwin was talking out the side of his neck'

Soorry but most all biologist that are chistian accept evolution And this number has been riseing steadly for centuries

  • @DrGoodwrench64 Evolution has ben overwhemingly proved. Look up the BestofScience channel for some good videos on undeniable proof of evolution save going back in time and observing it in motion.

  • wow! ur so full of shit i cant even believe it!

  • They arent around because they died out stupid. Hence why we evolved. The Earth around us was constantly changing so we had to adapt or die. So all the inferior species died.

  • Where AREN'T the intermediate forms? EVERYTHING is an intermediate from one to another. Ugh.

  • As an athiest-agnostic, I WOULD be offended, but I know you're only doing this to get a rise out of us.

  • "Bad answers"? They're only "bad" answers if you close your mind off to them and don't allow yourself to believe them.

  • 7) it is not about being "divine" in the Bible or Koran, it's about killing people for your faith and going to heaven for 72 virgins, that it the problem. This country embraces diversity. And just because someone throws battery acid in a girl face isn't a cogent argument to argue against religion.

  • @johnyonk

You are an idiot. The bible says nothing about killing people for our faith. Where exactly did you find that passage? You should get your information someplace other than here on YouTube. Go to your Church or Mosque or talk to your religious friends..... oh, wait..... you probably don't have any friends because your attitude towards their choice in Faiths. Well go find a Pastor or Priest and ask some cogent questions. Repeat with another to get a balanced over-view. Otherwise, STFU!

  • @DrGoodwrench64 I'm not talking about the anything in the bible saying it is OK to kill for your faith. All I'm pointing to is this man in the video keeps pointing to the extreme sects of every religion as if their radical interpretation is god's divine law and everyone in that religion agrees with their fanaticism. I actually agree with him that fanatic sects of every religion are the ones that cause the most problems. They misinterpret on purpose for political purposes, which is wrong.

  • @DrGoodwrench64 as my second reply. ellipses are taken care of like this... (3 dots)

You act so intelligent and apparently troll these boards like a vampire let loose in a blood bank. For the record, the hat and glasses don't add points to your IQ. The funny thing is we might agree on most things. As for my friends... (note the 3 dots) I have plenty like you and I know them like every inch of my body. They pounce on every knee jerk emotional reaction without listening to what I'm saying. read

  • @johnyonk

"As for my friends... (note the 3 dots) I have plenty like you and I know them like every inch of my body"

Sounds kinky. Can I get in on some of that action?

  • 4) I don't pretend to know things I don't know, if I did there would be a fourth point on the trinity. 5) so anyone with faith is immediately denounced as credible? 6) religion or not Aristotle and many other philosophers (who were athiests) knew there was still a moral code.

  • 1) lets talk about nuclear proliferation...and your answer is be nice to them, maybe they'll like us eventually? 2) I'm religious, gay marriage isn't the issue to make or break our country, let the 10th amendment settle that one. 3) do you think Obama is really anti-gay marriage? He knows that's a hot button and just keeps those devout Christians who voted for him on his side.

  • supposed atheist dictators, while it's debatable with some whether they were atheist or not doesn't matter. their is no atheistic belief that causes someone to commit mass genocide or murder. atheism is a lack of a belief, a belief in a god or gods. that it, that's all, you can't infer ANY other belief than that.

but what you can notice is the religious and servitude nature of the cultures. Russia had generations of religious doctrine for them to be ready made to follow Stalin.

  • @melonbarmonster pretty sure the atrocities have nothing to do with whether thay are religious or not and more to do with if they are crazy. Religious people do horrible things too.

  • @melonbarmonster Kim Jongil has simply removed one god and replaced it with another ... himself.Just because some one says a certain thing dosen't make it so.He can claim secularism or athistism but when you demand people to pay homage to you at a certain time of the day everyday..sorry sounds like a religion to me.

I don't think there is any human endeavor that can be totally incorruptible but I think having everyone think for themselves and embrace reason vs dogma is far harder to corrupt.

  • Yet since religion was a thought there have been killings in the name of this imaginary god that everyone believes in. Church is a business and it needed followers to grow so they made up hell so you will believe in the church, Most people only believe in this because there scared of what happens after they die. Church gives them peace of mind even thought its all fantasy in there own minds. I believe though that people can believe what they want in our free country so whatever.

  • @melonbarmonster *face palm* kim jongil is not atheist, he just follows a different deity than you and all dictators are theistic in their own right wether it be they think they are doing gods work or that they themselves are god, lest we forget things such as the crusades, the inquisition, the holocaust, all done in the name of god and more recently jihad on the western world in the name of god, religion as time and time again been used to justify mass killing, enough with the mining.

  • North Korea could quite easily be said to be the most profoundly theistic country on this planet. Just saying.

  • There not really Atheist, if they were they wouldn't worship is father as a god. Which is actually ruled by him based on their laws making North Korea the first and Only "Necrotocracy". Also to most communist dictatorships end up havign the people worship them and sort of beocme cult sthemselves.

  • @melonbarmonster correlation is not causation. Stalin and Hitler had mustaches. mustaches caused some of the worst atrocities of human history.

  • why is something like this on CNN?

  • This dudes sounds like a joke just like Obama. Hes a f'n Indonesian citizen. real name Barry Soetoro.

  • even in Islam you can be what ever you want just keep it for your self and don't try to encourage other people to follow .. to give your self answer about any thing that has to do with god and life well god give to you the answer around you get them from what he crated around you observe

  • forget about the human behavior Evil - greed - lie - hypocrite - this what we did to our selves this is not god doing to us at the time Judaism and Christianity in deniable with Islam in order for Muslim to be a real Muslim they have to believe in Judaism and Christianity it is part from Islam

  • This dudes a faggot

  • o you got what I need, cause Sam Harris, is just a dike, Cause Sam Harris, is just a dike.

o you got what I need, cause Sam Harris, is just a dike, Cause Sam Harris, is just a dike.

o you got what I need, cause Sam Harris, is just a dike, Cause Sam Harris, is just a dike.

  • Actually, if you look at the world, historically faith has not been kept between the believer and the believed, so...while your description of how it should be is accurate, its implication that faith is OK is historically inaccurate

  • u can be aheist but dont try to change any body else u can believe in the devil

  • Religion does more then just connect god with people. If you think about it Church groups give us charities, soup kitchens, friendship, happiness, and many more positive things to communities.

  • @quatlen

All those things can be carried out in a secular way without gOD.

Question your faith as you would any other story.

Look at the validity of your religion compared to Islam, Scientology, Hindus and ask yourself why am I a _________?

    Dig deep!

  • @AncientLie It is possible that you could do those things with out god and a church group but it is more realistic and likely that people will do those things when they know that they belong to what they feel is a safe and secure environment to carry out those good deeds.

  • Disturbing but true. Prayer has been completely taken out of context. Faith w/ no action is bad.

  • I'll take Sam Harris seriously the day he provides an objective ground for transcendent moral obligations or duties.

  • Do you think you know what these transcendent moral obligations are ?

Is lying always wrong? Surely not, if you were hiding jews in your attic.

How about saving souls from eternal hell, Wouldnt be ok to lie for jesus?

  • Yes I believe I do know objective moral truths. Such as it is always wrong to torture babies for fun.

Your questions gets into situational ethics which attempts to prioritize various moral duties and obligations.

A Nazi forfeits his entitlement to the truth because he seeks to use that knowledge to violate the right to life of another.

Your duty to protect human life takes greater precedent over your duty to tell the truth.

  • damn devils

  • white people are the dumbest

  • we have a y in english for the sound at the end of "money"

  • @superdog797 you get a d for Devil. now go away

  • Sam Harris is right. Some people are just simply wrong about human fulfilment & we shouldn't be afraid to say so. People who throw battery acid in the faces of little girls trying to learn are wrong. People who commit homophobic violence and bigotry are wrong. People who discriminate based on race are wrong. Christians who are the strongest supporters of torture in the US are wrong. To say we all have a right to our own views & facts is to fall into the trap Ken Wilber calls the Mean Green Meme.

  • Very interesting.

  • FAIL video
