  • You could not have done better, Rudy. Your own version all the way and better for that. I love this.

  • Rudy, you're awesome. I've heard Jesse live, back in the day, and you evoke his sound and cadence perfectly.

    Perfection.

  • I went to school at Ole Miss in the early '70's and a lady friend of mine turned me on to Jesse. His greatest hits CD was the first CD that I bought so long ago. This beautiful song gives me chills every time that I listen to it. The song is a wonderful visual of that hot , misunderstood state. It should be the State Song and Jesse Winchester is a fantastic singer, sonwriter, and man.

  • One of the great love songs of place...

  • I'm from Meridian, MS, but I attend a university in Tennessee. I miss my family, my dog (Jack Russel terrier), my small town roots, my church where we sing A-Capella and have grandma's Sunday lunch afterward, long days fishing and drinking beer on the lake with my grandpa, listening to the dogs run a rabbit in the woods on a cold winter day.. There's not words to describe the pride I feel for my home. Mississippi you're On My Mind.

  • Such a wonderful song. I am so happy to see so many people have been by to listen, friend.

  • I'm still listening :).......Love Jesse's writing...I've got tons of his stuff on old 33 rpm. Thanks for posting.

  • THanks Rudy

  • Almost six thousand views!!! THat's a lot of people....for you and for Jesse! I'm so happy about both! ~NAncy

  • I pull it up and listen to it whenever I get homesick or hear somebody bad mouth my home and my people.

  • What a gem -- haven't heard it in decades, and it moved me as much, if not more, as it did the very first time.

Used to sing it to my girlfriend -- now wife -- 34 years ago. Was there ever a more beautiful, wistful song written about one's home while in forced exile?

    Good on ya', Jesse!!!!

  • How did I miss this... Good job Rudy...

  • great job man, do you know where i can find the jerry jeff walker version?

  • Lived about 5 miles from Mississippi, southeastern Louisiana. Always loved this song and it made my heart hurt to hear it again as I cannot go back after Katrina.

  • Good days I hope Niel

  • this song takes me back to montreal and days gone by

  • 1,200 views! Looks like I'm not the only one who loves this one! Still listening...

  • Super singing,

    Just beautiful....

  • I love this song Rudi - the lyrics are beautiful and I would imagine your version would be hard to better. Off to do the shopping now with 'Missippi' on my mind!

  • Mississippi you're on my mind! Oh I love this song and I remember Jesse. Wish I could find his song "Lullaby for the First Born"

  • I'm from Mississippi...the Delta...and a friend just sent this to me. Now in Florida....I'm awfully homesick. Thanks..good job.

  • I love Jesse Winchester. You do his songs justice. Damn good job.

  • I'm not from Mississippi; I'm from Texas, yet this beautiful song never fails to "take me home." (Sigh!)

  • I'm glad. Thanks for reacting.

  • Absolutely beautiful and heartfelt rendition of this song from one of my favorite songwriters. Couldn't find the original here and much to my surprise, stumbled upon this one. I'm a happy camper now. Beautifully done. Thanks a million for posting.

  • Best one yet in my opinion! It is just lovely, and really captures the feeling behind the song. If I wasn't already in the deep South, you could sing me home with this one!
