I went to school at Ole Miss in the early '70's and a lady friend of mine turned me on to Jesse. His greatest hits CD was the first CD that I bought so long ago. This beautiful song gives me chills every time that I listen to it. The song is a wonderful visual of that hot , misunderstood state. It should be the State Song and Jesse Winchester is a fantastic singer, sonwriter, and man.

I'm from Meridian, MS, but I attend a university in Tennessee. Used to sing it to my girlfriend -- now wife -- 34 years ago. Was there ever a more beautiful, wistful song written about one's home while in forced exile?

Lived about 5 miles from Mississippi, southeastern Louisiana. Always loved this song and it made my heart hurt to hear it again as I cannot go back after Katrina.
