  • wow you have arthritis and can still use that sword better than i can

  • how can the saya stay so horizontally in the obi?

  • @shadowrubik why wouldnt it? also helps to have a little belly. ^^

  • @lennybruce8 i don´t do iaido or kendo so im a rookie^^ does the hakama hold the katana too?

  • @shadowrubik the obi does. which is under the hakama. in this video however i think i'm not wearing my obi.

  • The comments speak a lot of the open mindedness and skepticism of some iaido practitioners (or people who would like to be perceived as such). How one should be so hostile towards something outside of their experience is beyond me.

  • @hmfr34k people are people. there's no manner on the internet for some. makes me wonder how they behave daily towards others.

  • That was pretty cool, can you show other spins? That would be awesome.

  • you sound like the pervert who lives next door...

  • wow how cool!! NOTT

a spinning technique like this would be one of the LAST things I would teach ANYONE with an actual blade, if i had too much time on my hands that is

  • @Kiznae youre right, my father just died of cancer, i was unemployed. i had way too much time on my hands...so i decided to share knowledge with people that would appreciate it. if youre not one of them its much nice if you closed your window in silence rather than showing your narrow-mindedness to the world AND possibly hurting someones feelings by being cold hearted.

  • Cool and fun movie-like move. I challenge you to attempt it with a sharp blade :)

  • Hmmm... tough debate. I prefer the flashy spin as a matter of personal taste, but the utilitarian in me can't help but frown. I would have to agree that the spin is an unnecessary maneuver that doesn't serve any purpose outside an aesthetic one and is potentially dangerous. I'd probably eschew it altogether. A simple, well performed noto is perfectly serviceable.

  • @GeoVII noto can be argued as well. there are many styles of noto and speeds.

its been argued by well established sensei even that present day noto is ridiculous with its high speed.

the spin is a spin. thats all. the spin i preformed is no more dangerous than some noto and batto.

there's no debate needed about this. its a fun and interested technique. period.

  • Chiburi is to remove the blood from the sword. Being able to spin a sword like that is pretty cool, but is not iaido.

Next thing you know, people are going to call Bren Foster an iaidoka, because he can spin katana's.

  • @Imakelamecomments yes, i knwo what chiburi is. but mostly its not used as actual blood removal. its a symbol for it. ideally you would wipe it. that is why i said you can argue the purpose of spinning and chiburi. things in iaido are kind of fabricated for training purposes. its not actual kenjutsu. there are many forms of iaido, you shouldnt say spinning has no place. some forms of iaido are more flashy than others. maybe you can say its not koryu. but again we dont know well enough.

  • spinning your swords... don't let your sensei see that. There is no use for spinning, only to make things flashy, but then again you should have chosen katori shinto ryu instead of iaido.

Your other vids are way better.

  • @Imakelamecomments while i appreciate your comment i think you should take a step back and look at iaido in general. its just a spin. take it easy and enjoy it for what it is. as for spinning one could argue that there is no reason for chiburi too.

  • @lennybruce8 i if has nothing to with iaido then is not iaido ... and ur title is wrong...????

  • I do that spin also, but I add a violent pre - spin stroke like zatoichi does, sort of chiburui, to "shake off the blood". I hope your arthritis is better, Iai techniques (softly performed) helps hands, arms and shoulders. I have a problem with my left shoulder, two handed techniques have helped me. But we must be careful, as you said a shinken is heavier than a Iaito, one can overtrain a little!

  • Thanks for the post. I bought 2 Katana recently, and this info is very usefull.

  • thats is a very beautiful katana, i can see the hamon pretty clearly in the video and it appears to be very well made

  • how about the one where you hold the sword in front of you, palms facing inward and backhand facing left or right, an the sword goes around your hand.. like how some people do with short swords or chefs knives.

  • hmmm, i think someone watched the 2003 Zatoichi movie for that sword spin lol.

  • @Navez18 its a legitimate technique which has nothing to do with any zatoichi eiga. i'm sorry you have to be immature publicly like this.

  • thats a really nice katana what make is it

  • @mdogrnc420 its a cheness. personally like it. not expensive and held up for number of years without problems. also heavier than a normal iaito.

  • @lennybruce8 and i noticed to pattern on the blade is it clay tempered

  • that's a beautiful katana btw :D

  • i think spinns are useless they just look cool :D but i really ejoyd the video :D

  • what is laido ???

  • i wonder if theres a technique where it involves a strike sword spin then back into the sheath in one fell swoop

  • My i inquire as to what discipline you study?

  • @LongbowKantana iaido

  • @lennybruce8

    What kind of Iaido?

  • @EvenTakenIsTaken its just a spin. not from anything particular.

  • @lennybruce8

I was asking what style of Iaido you study?

  • @EvenTakenIsTaken musoshindenryu

  • Appreciate you making this video. After going through forms for an hour or so, it is nice to end with something fun and cool

  • Now I know why they banned Japanese swords in the UK and exempted actual practioners that hold certicates.

  • no sure i understand what youre saying.

  • Cool video! I've always wanted to be able to spin a sword like that...pointless, but very flashy. :) Thanks for posting the video!

  • Dude, that is a nice sword. You must be very proud.

  • cool! 1 question how to you put the sword in the saya the fancy way when your fingers wipe the blade then drawn back into the saya?

  • Nice videos, Is that a Chen Katana?

  • it is. nice a heavy. a good iaito.

  • i love samurai swords there beutiful light and fast

  • Wow thank you for this video, sheathing the sword was verry difficult for me the normal way im not sure why. but doing the sword spin you showed and sheatheing that way feels much more natural to me and is also flashy. thanks much!

  • i kinda did a bit different. i twirled it with my middle and index finger... eh i dont know XD

  • this method gives good stability.

  • thank you for the video, wasnt sure how to spin, just bought a couple of bokken to practice with.

  • I picked up these spins from you months ago just for fun, not knowing who you were. Done something like it before, nice little video review. thanks

  • its is really good video but it depends which style you are practicing the shibiri that you do is the same but the notto that you are doing is not muso shindin ryu

  • i did not say this is muso shinden ryu.

  • Very nice! Little details make great diferences.

  • Way cool.

  • I like that, very flashy, Have you any more that you could post?

  • I guess not!

  • i only know one other variation on this i think. might post it in the future.

  • What is the purpose of this fancy noto?

  • its just that, fancy.

  • hot damn! the blade gleaming in the sun kinda reminds me of samurai x. no offense

  • What kind of robe are you wearing?

  • well it looks like one of the nine circles steel Iaito - the kurin line , I hope so as nine circles budo is in my neck of the woods over here in England .

    gonna get me one :-))

  • nice Iaito , good blade width in motohaba

the bohi termination looks really well done as does the kissaki - more like a fred chen huanuo forge blade than a cheness - although it does remind me of a deluxe cheness Iaito , a lot of Iaito are thin narrow blades , this one is very shinken like in sughata - givng the user more of a feel of a liveblade , I would love to know the make - I would have it for my own use in the dojo .

    thanks lenny :-)

  • cheness i believe. its a 1045 carbon steel they say. its a nice heavy blade. all the iaito iv'e felt from sword store and paul chen and nijin (forget the name) have been very light compared to this. this is my daily iaito.

  • Very interesting flair.

If you have Fibromyalgia/Arthritis, you may want to invest in a parafin wax bath. Rite Aid, CVS or mabey even wal-mart will carry these. We ue it for proper blood flow of both the feet and hands. Use it once or twice a day. It won't cure but will help.

I like your style, very smooth.

  • 好教學!這個教學仔細!示範的動作也很漂亮!!

  • What japanese styles of iaido use this?

  • man! that looks so smooth.

  • i dont think it is a cheness, it looks like it has a much higher polish than a cheness iaito, i will have to ask to see my friends he has the cheness

  • Good stuff! Hey, that sword looks familiar, but I can't place it. Any hints?

  • sorry brother, no idea. it was a gift couple years ago.

  • it looks to have the tsuba of a cheness iaito

    is it an iaito?

    anyways cool vid

  • yes its iaito. it was a gift. i am not sure where it came from but i just went to cheness website and the stuba is the same. weight seems the same too. so maybe it is?

  • Very nice, thank yo for sharing this.

  • him good instruction. i haven't seen you sins kumdo and its good to see you are well. this is mike.

  • also- if you have arthritis you should try drinking apple cider vinegar + honey in warm water

That stuff works really well and cleans your system

  • nice stuff

I wanna make some instructional vids too but i need a better cam

  • Good intstruction.
