So chilling to watch...gets me every time...his ending phrase seems to require almost no effort at all...it just makes me think of him walking the streets of NY singing all day long, perfecting his ethereal voice...one of my favorite documentaries.
@incubusbuckley Matt Bellamy isn't close your right but don't doubt Freddies skills in the mid register and the fact that he had the same vocal range as Jeff just down a little bit more than a few notes, meaning Jeff could go higher and Freddie could go lower.
@DyingSID666 i'm a fan of both bands work and they're both great singers in their own right, freddie is better than matt obviously and freddie was a phenomenal studio singer but it always sounded different live, not discounting his work and not saying that's a bad thing but i am just more impressed with jeffs work.
@incubusbuckley Jeff was definitely a better live singer, no arguments there. Freddie wouldn't even try to hit the high notes live that he hit in the studio, yet Jeff would go even higher live sometimes.
technical question/observation: Jeff is not wearing headphones while singing. i guess then the mix must be playing in his vocal room. i would have thought the bleeding into the mic would have been bad for the mix. wrong?

A directional microphone catches the sound that comes before it, not around. And the sensitivity of a microphone may make it catch only a close sound source.
@girlfacedman What they did was keep two monitors out of phase with each other in the live room. When combined with the vocal track and flipped, they cancel eachother out. Ive used this before, some singers prefer it over headphones.
@nooneyouknow22 I think this is footage from the videoclip, not from when they were actually tracking the vocals for the album.. you can tell he sings it differently in here. So it didn't matter if there was anything bleeding into the mic or not ;)
He belts it out better in this version than the actual studio version that was released on the album! It's genetics. Listen to his dad sing and you can see why he is so naturally gifted.
@buscadordeososmex I totally agree. I don't think there is a singer in the business out there today that can come close to doing that. He makes American Idol winners his slaves.
Just look at how much passion is in the line "but it goes......so........slow!!!" He is so in the moment. Absolutely gorgeous. Man, I miss the shit out of this guy. What a true legend. What a true angel.
Really cool, he didn't have any headphones though? Did they use the monitor phase-flip trick? Grace is my favorite recording & I try to research as much as a I can. I heard he used a u87 microphone, you don't get a clear view in this video though. Thanks for posting
this should be the most watched video on youtube...any singers out there should watch this and just ENVY! I know I do.....

@TR3YTURNR sorry, you are wrong. and both of them have poor technique compared to this beautiful soul.
