So I see it as business. What stops any company from selling part of itself? Clearly large corporations do that. At&t has already done that before many times. We battle with comcast. We could buy them one day, or sell uverse to them, or whatever. this is business. Companies do what is profitable. Perhaps We purchase Verizon FIOS from them, and make both a seperate spin off company. But whatever it is, Know that both Union and management knows that eventuality b4 others would.
@1800nunyabusiness Its clear. The union and management are not bran new. They all know what jobs should pay what. Don't view either party as innocent, and blind, just starting out. They are going to talk about future intent that they would not reveal to noone but themselves. For example, it may be their intent to sell uverse as a collective, to Google Or microsoft as far as we know, so they are creating separate systems, contracts, vehicles, pay scales, expectations, management, dispatch, etc
TelephoneTechTalk I developed TelephoneTechTalk to allow communications workers from around the neighborhood and around the country to communicate with each other and become a resource to our fellow communications employees. Find out whats going on in your neighboring garage, central office, retail wireless store, equipment manufacturing plant or on top of the closet cell tower. Landline, wireless, fiber optics, equipment manufacturers and cable. Everybody is welcome.
I'm a premise Technician, I have been installing data networks and phone systems PBX and large business applications from T-1 to fiber DS1's and just about every application in all business standards. 20 plus years in this business, I was part of the light-speed project ( DAVAR) and was rated 10 of 10 by my Managers. How would you feel with the resume I have? Just a question. I have proven myself time a time again how many more times shall I prove myself? Semper Fi ! A former Marine as well.
And is your home wiring in the 21st century. I was part of the F2 conditioning to the outside plant, ie (wire). This is a monumental time in convergence service we all are in the first steps of networking to the home as well as a choice of providers. It's a new direction and it's only going to get better. So if your a technician listen please, It's starts with you. Positive thinkers win! At your service, James former Marine! Adapt and over come. "Wish you all well".
And last. I would like to say that is is a convergent service just like most business today, they are moving to this type of service. Company's pay mega bucks to have telecom professionals come in and network wire there business, you get free installation,,, well at this time you do. so if it takes 6 or more hours to get the premise in order, then think of it this way, what kind of service where you getting before.
As any service there will be installation issues. I have been installing Data networks and Telecom switches for 20 years as well as residential. The average house wiring was built around POTS (plain old telephone service) technology. The wiring and how the service will be delivered, ie, cat 5 or coax is very important for the stability and reliability of the service. I could have you up all night telling you of the troubles I have cleared due to the average home owners, "due it yourselvers"!
Someone put a thumb down on my comment with respect of fiber splicers and seniority. you are not walking into at&t and getting a job as a fiber splicer, not if there is a union involved!, this is the way it works and the senior workers well get them jobs. You will have to do what they did, pay your dues and obtain seniority. That's the way it works. I have been in the telecommunication field for 20 plus years.
You are only partaly right as to the TV's frezzing. If your Gatway looses Sync then you will have a frozen Picture untill the Gatway is restored. There are many resaons for pic frezzing as with other problems, just install it the way you where trained and we shouldn't have any problems. Good luck, if you have technicial question drop me a line, Thanks.
it takes them over 6 hours to install one tv and 5 techs to try to make it work. and it still doesn't work, it always pixilates and always goes down. I'm going back to Direct TV. One tech and 30 minutes and i'm done.
ATT Uverse does not answer complaints. Installed on January 14th...it sucks. much worse than Dishnet. At least Dishnet answers their phone. After emails and phone calls, AT&T just ignores us. AT&T, the new AOL!
I can't wait for CWA to organize the premise techs. These poor bastards need to be represented. It's terrible that a tech got fired in S Florida just for talking about the union. AWFUL!!!!
The Premise Techs in San Antonio are UNION...and they are hell on wheels. This contract WILL get them the respect and pay they deserve...Randall Stephenson is a blood sucking, corporate greedy, lying jerk off!!!
You make it sound like the union is responsible for the pay rate...that is totally retarded. att is the one that set the pay rate and created the job in the first place. For you to blame the Union for the pay rate is completely based on ignorance. The Union from day 1 began a campaign to raise the pay rate, and actually did get it raised even before this contract. Now that this contract is fixin to expire, the Union is standing firm and strong on getting them the pay they deserve!!
@DaUverseGuy If you actually think the Union doesnt try and get the best pay rate they can for their members, then you are on crack. Yes, it is negotiated. But that doesnt mean the Union just takes what the management wants to pay. I can assure you the pay they get is considerably higher than what Management actually wanted to pay them.

Even if you have fiber experience the fiber splicing jobs go to top craft techs with the most union seniority.
James1toknow 3 years ago
That isnt exactly accurate.

@1800nunyabiz Pay rate Is Negotiated by management and Union. If you feel otherwise, therein is the problem
