If she's so sweet, you should see if you can coax her into a carrier and get her spayed... the male cats should leave her alone more after that. :) Plus, no surprise kittens!

Some girl cats will pee to say "I'm in heat! come sex me!" ... i had a LOT of problems with my girl cat doing this before I got her spayed. she was peeing EVERYWHERE. :( But she stopped after we got her fixed. :)

the reason the males have barbs on thier penis is to trigger a pain repsose when he withdraws his penis . this pain then causes the female to ovulate and realese eggs . it's not plesent for the female one bit !!

If they are in heat, that means they are already ovulating. The barbs on their penises is to prevent the females from getting away before the male is done mating. I have studied penile morphology in one of my classes on animal behavior..

politicophobia your right if an animal is in heat she is ovulating, BictonGurl is right to because cats dont realeae their ovum till after they mate, aroud 24 hours after, it ensures pregnancy and its also why they dont bleed during estrus like dogs and other mamals do. the barbs also help get rid of other male cats sperm cuz a female cat will try and mate with as many males as she can.

That adds up to a whole lot of kittens! ...and even if you don't let her get pregnant each time, she'll go into heat every month for about a week... and there are already soooo many kittens who don't have homes.. So, do what's best for your little family! :D

@teeheesims3 if doesn't matter if they're bro and sis, they WILL have kittens... get them fixed as soon as you can (yes, I know this is a year late, but maybe someone else will see!) She may get pregnant if they mate (it's very likely), and then she'll have to have kittens or get a kitten abortion (This is sad, but better... it's really hard to find homes for kittens :( )

Also, this is jsut part of how nature works. Mother cats hold kittens by the scruff, and males hold females like that.

There are SO MANY kittens who get taken the the human society, or abandoned every year... :( So many grown cats (and kittens) get put to sleep because there are no homes for them.... I decided that the next time I wanted kittens, I would find a rescue near me and try and adopt a foster cat for a month or two while they have kittens, and while they look for a forever home for them. :)

@teeheesims3 It encourages her to hold still, and let him get into position.. his penis isn't in the same way as a dog's, so he has to manuver carefully to get his penis inside, so he needs her to hold still.. the barbs that scrap her insides hurt her, but it's not a big pain. As for why... it just is. God works in many mysterious ways... and not everything is sunshine and rainbows. But, it works. There are many more scary mating practices out there...
