My point is, its easy to take a stance on something, however its much more difficult to live for it! The worlds governments have always taken stances and made promises that they dont follow-through on. Let us not do the same! It starts with ME, It starts with YOU, It starts with US! Let us not leave it up to the governments but rather pull together and change the world!
It is a fact, that most poor ppl living on our streets in the US live better than those in 3rd world countries. yet here we sit on a pious soapbox and say it is too hard and too big a feat to stop something like poverty. You comfort yourselves by saying we are all just dreamers or unrealistic. well i say that YOU are the reason poverty still exists! It is your fault that we have this epidemic. you will learn of that i am sure! Shame on you! my message is simple, yet clear. IN MY NAME!
Our goverment makes a lot of promises each year. But when you look back each year How Many promises have thy actually kept? I think that we can make a difference and we will. But It won't happen over night. These videos are to show you that WE(the world)CAN DO SOMETHING. So IN MY NAME I WILL HELP END POVERTY!
Technological advances have been able to perform marvelous tasks for us, but has it been really life changing? It is ironic that a modern, intelligent society as ours has not been able to end hunger and poverty in the world. Every day we are losing precious people because of poverty. It is outrageous that in 2008 people are still struggling to satisfy basic needs for life substance. It is our responsibility to protect each other from suffering and extinction as God's instruments that we are.
End Poverty, arrest the crooked bankers and garnish their ill-gotten money. that would stop poverty and starvation and nobody would miss them at all while they sit in jail.
natesohl, they are talking about extreme poverty in this vid, not welfare poverty. When you talk about bad decisions how many children do you think chose to be born into this? Whereas I agree with your thoughts on foolishness, its clear from your statement that you have never experienced the kind of desperation that these people live in.
if there was more people, there would be more businesses and that means more jobs available, same goes for less people... the less people the less jobs.
the REAL reason why ther are poor people is becouse ther are too meny people, if countys control ther brith rate, you would not have this problem, ther are no schools to teach
the people why thay should not have so meny kids when ther no food or job waiteing for theem in the future its not the peoples falt
its ther leaders its never the people falt
its always the leaders but thay take the blem
and thay are the ones that fight and die for them when ther should be no reason too
it is a strong video with a strong message, however there are too many charities, and we can only help through charties, however we cannot give to them all, they should merge more so what we do can help a wider range
You are right that there are a lot of charities, but the message of the video is that to truly end poverty, governments must act on their existing promises. Keep giving where you can, but your voice and vote can be stronger than your pocket book when it comes to changing policy so we can really change this injustice.
I know how we can virtually eliminate poverty, all we have to do is set the "poverty line" beneath the income of most of the world's population thus redefining poverty and thereby effectively eliminating it. I'm a genius!
We sure can stop poverty, but I believe the solution is in providing education opportunities for all children and also combining corporate interests and business goals with actual prosperity of the developing regions. I see no point in injecting enormous amounts of money into black holes.
I can't believe how many ignorant people have commented below. Think about it! As they said in the clip, it's simply a lotto that we were born in a nation of wealth (and all those who say below that america is poor - are YOU living on less than $2 a day?).
I agree that population control is incredibly important- just look at the nile and the limited resources porblem for all those countries living on dwindling water or useful land. We do need population control in that respect.
Remember Live Aid, about 20 years ago. starving Chiildren in Ethiopia. Yes help starving people as no one should be denied help. BUT 20 years ago why did we not educate and tell people that the area they live is not suitable to sustain life (be it because of war or enviroment) so move or stop having kids.If that had happened then far few children would be starving today. SIMPLE but hard for some people to understand. If not, its only going to worsen, throwing money at the problem has not worked.
What a pile of crap!!! Do not by fair trade anything! It is a tax on guilt ridden bleeding hearts. Government can not and should not end poverty it has not worked in the US and will not work anywhere else. Get a job and work your ass off like the rest of us have.
There are no jobs for girls that have to walk 16 miles daily to fetch water, and thus cannot go to school and to be educated...for jobs that don't even exist anyways. Open your eyes.
2008 now. 8 years gone. 7 years more. India is nowhere close to getting started let alone make progress towards achieving the Millennium Goals.
The current economic system delivers for the elite rich.
The poor are poorer still. India has high child / infant mortality. It has slid on the ranks of corrupt countries. It continues to seek a mass-manufactured and consumerist economic model rather than device the solutions for the 0.9 billion people lacking basic facilities. Shame.
Population is the only means to stop poverty and nothing else. There maybe helpful solutions but will be only in vain if population remains above the proper number. Law of supply and demand still applies here. Even if job is provided, the probability is they would just receive salaries below poverty line. Many people competing for a job means higher quality but lower salary. And the vicious cycle starts from there. It's all about the population. Period.
thats absolutely not true. there is only one way in which poverty can be destroyed charity. those who have excessive money need to donate it. there is enough food to end starvation, it's just not being made because people would rather advance technology or waste there money
Think, Decide and take Action!!! When we put Equal Justice For All in all areas of our Humanity then this shall come to pass. Yet the majority of Man seekes after their own desires and confort being ignorant of the rest till Poverty and pain shall knock upon their door step. "In My Name" Oh Man, Take Action!!! "For what we will focus on Will Grow and come to pass" As declared by Marius Barbu your brother and friend of Humanity
I remember Obama saying(on the first debate) that when he say's tax cuts, he meant people whos income is less than 250000. Sadly, thats 90% of freeggin america, meaning the few rich dudes are taking WAYY too much money. 10% of america owns more than 70% of America's money. Inmyname(and other less mainstream organizations) would have SUCHSUCHSUCH a better time if THOSE people were to act. Either way, participate in this. even though we can do little compared to there rich people, start somewhere
It doesn't matter whether any other country can or can't spend money on poverty; it doesn't matter if we think we can't end poverty. What matters is that we become aware and try whatever we can to end poverty. If you have the time and money to spend on computers and "gadgets" - you have the ability to help one poor child in your community. How can you do less?
how can poverty be ended? i don't mean to ruin your parade, but it's always been around. even during 1400 bc when the world was not overpopulated. even in the u.s.a. there's poverty.
nothing is imposible, money is a tool to help us and others, that is what god intended, now look at the some of the selfish celebertys who spend it on plains and partys, most of those people are unhappy, we can all make a difference if we just stop being money hungry, the only reason why things seem inposible is because it has not been done before, lets just get our heads out of our asses and help others in need
The standard that was set for foreign aid is 0.7% of the country's GDP. Few of those that set that goal followed through. No one is asking anyone to be unrealistically generous, because the people in donor countries deserve to have their needs met too. The fact is that there is still poverty, no matter how good we are or how bad they are and so on, and it needs to stop. The point is to stop arguing over who's fault it is or how someone else should be helping and just work on it harder.
Also, stop repeating non-factual information. Aids will not stop spreading, becuase the morons are raping children. Look at the stat's on Africa and Aids.... Google it and read.
That's just it you fool. America IS NOT the richest country anymore. We as a general people are either poor or lower middle class about to be taxed into poverty. We're in billions of dollars in debt and you want us to GIVE billions of dollars away? For what? For some kids not to succeed in school? For some diseases to be untreatable? For some people to decide not to work and just feed off of welfare until they die? Unless this plan is 100% flawless, we can't risk becoming poor ourselfs to help.
You sound like a selfish person who only thinks about themselves. It does not matter if Americas the richest country. America and the people have the opportunity to goto college, make something of themselves and make a difference. Most african countries do not allow for that. who knows, america may have cured some diseases or saved shit-loads more kids from dying by now. Im studying civil engineering at Uni hopefully to someday become a humanitarian aid worker. what about you?
I can't believe there are so many ignorant dickheads out there. It's a pitty YOUR parents decided to breed. Choke on your icecream and drown in your bottled water you oxygen thieves.
Is that an ironic type of in your face question? Or like a literal yes or no I don't know question? Because man...define rich, like do you mean rich as a whole? Rich as in does everyone make over a certain amount of money a year? I mean, look at the U.S. a lot of people look at us as rich and selfish but look at us as "rich" because we have a lot of celebrities and famous people...even though we're heading towards becoming a poor country in general. But yeah define rich.
I agree with you ASKrem1 on world population, instead of in YOUR NAME ,you activist people should educate those others to stop breding for awhile then you will see the biggest unsuall change in poverty of the world ,untill then you are just talking your ass off cuz GOVERMENT itself is the problem not the solution !!!!
The problem in this world is there is too many people, stop breding like rabbits and things will get better, and OH almost forgot if you think white people will help you dream on they destroy countries to require resources so they can maintain their lavish lifestyles iraq is just one example.
the only way to stop poverty is through education. if we could teach governments how to make succesful countries instead of being selfish, that is when poverty will end. Giving them money may help them for a little while (if the governments don't use it for themselves) but they'll end up exactly in the same place as before. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day...teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime
Governments can't stop poverty, giving money can't stop poverty. People can only stop poverty if they work hard for it. If they don't want to do that, then they stay poor. Their choice, not ours.
people do work hard today ... but they work hard in a debt currency system controlled by the international money lenders and their central bank franchises
study money theory, colonial scrip , fractional reserve system ..the difference between sound money and IOU issued by central banks...
all governmetns are bankrupted to these bankers ..that's why they can issue only iou debt currency when they can easily issue governmetn money backed by godds and services present at that given time
We can't end poverty; we aren't meant to. Jesus told us that the poor will always be with us. So until He comes back, we will have the poor. What we can do is to fight against oppression, to fight for justice and righteousness. By the way, we can't do anything "in our name." But there is power in the Name Above All Names: Jesus. He is our only hope in this chaotic world that is spinning out of control. We all keep asking God to bless America, but what we really need is to bless God, America.
slimbigpapa..God bless you for your statement.I agree with you. Jesus is the name that we need to cry out to for help.
There are so many people in this video that have been blessed with money to help take care of the whole world. Some gotta have new shoes and the best of everything though, you know?
Jesus was contrasting the poor always being with us to Himself NOT always being with us (physically speaking, of course. He was referencing his ascension). Yes, fight for justice and righteousness and against oppression, but also try to end the physical suffering of the poor. We can't use "there will always be poor people" as an excuse to not provide for them. I like what you said about not doing it "in our name", but in His. I was thinking the same thing when I heard that.
slimbigpapa- I with you that we cant end world poverty and that there is power in the name above all names: Jesus. But just because we can't end poverty doesn't mean we shouldn't try. We should fight for justice but poverty is injustice.
Yes Christianity offers life after death, but the world is beginning to wonder if there is life before death. be that vessel that provides life for someone.
"If you are unable to feed a hundred hunger people then feed one"- Mother Teresa
though simply asking politicians or giving money to poor countries wont exactly solve the problems..one thing that this video has highlighted is that we as a generation can make a difference..as of now..our generation hasn't made huge strides as some of our earlier generations which saw great people like Mandela ,Gandhi etc.Let us stop assuming that the world is now a safe and happy place to live..it is not...shed that illusion and lets start making a change...believe in it!!
It would be nice if we could end poverty, but right now we've got more pressing concerns, like global warming and peak oil. Plus, it's their fault they're so poor. No one obligates them to have so many children they can't feed. And it's no use to pump money into their countries if it will end up in the hands of their corrupt politicians.
'IN MY NAME' the only name that will finally end poverty is the name of Yeshua/Jesus. Bono, Bob Geldhof, and all these people, are WRONG. All of the problems of people are in the HEART. Only when a person receives Jesus into their heart as their own personal Saviour and Lord, will anything truly happen and begin. Poverty is a spiritual problem a problem of sin, and only Jesus can take care of it. You can feed a person's belly, etc. etc. but they can still die and go to Hell on a full stomach.
This is a great concept...IF we were all on the same playing field.
Read the Bible...what was going on 2000 years ago...poverty, famine, slavery, injustice, disease, famine.
It's all an illusion we can do anything about the run-away problem on Earth. It's a virus known as the Human Race, and pretty soon, the whole system will come crashing down, like bacteria in a Petri-dish that has outstripped it's resources.
Idealism is great...until you wake up. I have seen the enemy, and it is us.
If you want to criticize realism then you have to embrace realism. Realism is all about the power that we have. The reality is that we HAVE the power to change the world. Perhaps its better to be optimistic regarding our position and at least try to make things better. To give up does little to help anyone. That is what I assume you mean by it being an "illusion". If we educate the poor we increase our likelihood of finding a solution. Try not to be so grim and hopeless. :)
Not everyone will convert to one religion, and even if they did become Christians, that would not end poverty. Poverty will never end, no matter how hard any of you try.
Pssh I have heard the comment on this video that all the poor countries had tyrants/dictators. Who do you think put them there? The United States! Study History and look up Jacobo Arbhenz, Salvador Allende, etc.
It is "In my name" not "In my Money". They are just like the people that "support" the war. Will they go over to Iraq and fight?-No! Do they want taxes to go up to fund the war?-No! Just use the national credit card! They support the war, just not with money or help. It is the thought that counts- right? However, Chinese stickers of the American flag adorn their Toyota's bumper. The made in USA sticker, although looked the same, was 25 cents more... so yeah!
In mine country, we use the short handle hoe to cut out the growing plants between to make room for the other plants to grow strong. If I did not cut out the plants between, there would be too many plants and I would not have a good crop..even then, I never have a crop because when the food get big and good, the rebels come from the mountains and take my food away which I work for all year..they take my food so they can fight the other rebels..otherwise they would have to grow food and not fight
Everything being discussed really is a treatment for the symptoms of poverty (and should be done). However, To cure the disease and create a western standard of living everywhere requires western rule of law, property rights, transperancy, willingness to change and innovate and respect for women and minority groups. True liberalism is the answer but corrupt governments, extreme provincialism and sometimes well meaning western leftists have blocked the liberalism needed to make poverty history.
There is no magic button to get rid of poverty, but most of all there is no magic button to get rid of stupidity. Most poor people have the IQ of a Nacho chip. In reality, if you got rid of poverty the world would get over populated real quick. Goverments that abuse their people usally do it by using simple tricks and double crossing. People have to stand up for them selves in their own country. That's the best way ! God helps those who help them selves.
You mean like the simple tricks and double crossing being pulled on you as well? The story is always the same. Everyone else is the dumb victim but them, but the dumb victims are saying the same thing.
because money dont even matter to one another if everyone is poor.only the rich get richer on the expense of the poor.how bout real help in making their slums and schools and basic necessities and things we take for granted better and realizable.
which probably might be spent mostly on like?hidden cost?advertising maybe?like printing on what papers?further aggravate global warming.. maybe we wont even live to see year 2015?(pardon for my pessimism)what these people need isnt really money NOW,is genuine sincerity that the rest of the world is REALLY trying to help them - in making a difference in their life.
yeah you should be worried... you guys are going downhill while the few fill their pockets! fight back or Africans will be giving you aid sooner or later.
vavaboomie you fucking bitch, I was just suggesting a possible cause to end poverty, we tell them sex cause pregnancy
THIS WAY COUNTRIES CAN DONATE LESS AND STILL BE ABLE TO HELP THEM, OH AND NO SUGAR BUGER I'M NOT GOING TO KILL MYSELF BECAUSE I HAVE A TO FEED MY FAMILY!!!
Islam makes it an obligation upon every believer to give 2.5% of his wealth as charity to the poor every year.if the three richest men do this, poverty would be WIPED OFF africa. the solution isnt in making a big noise about what poverty is.its about acting together in getting rid of it.
Poverty cannot be eliminated, we can only mitigate it's effects by giving poor people access to an adequate living standard. But since people have different skills and different levels of productivity, there will always be people that will accumulate more riches that the average, and other people who won't. If the average person could make 1,000,000.00 USD in a week, then someone that could only make 10,000.00 would be poor.
The way I see it along time ago abunch of white people went to different countrys saying hey im gunna take over your ass. The ones who took it like a bitch are doin ok now adays but the ones who didnt want anything to do with it and wanted to keep their way of life are living and dying the same as the always have. Except now they got some camera recording them so i feel bad. Hey i got an idea! How about all you starving dying people work together and build a farm and well yourself.
here's a thought... why not just make everyone poor then it wont matter. :) But seriously folks, poverty will always be there. It's absurd to think you can end it.
There will always be poverty due to the fact that there will always be people not willing to work. Much like entropy, energy much always needs to be supplied in order to prevent the tendency of nature to revert from order to chaos. Its human nature to want not to work.
can't stop poverty as long as we continue to let elitists hijack governments taxing common to literal death. They control the CREATION OF MONEY and BANKING! The best way to stop poverty is stopping the ignorance. People are just too brainwashed and utterly ignorant. Poverty is a very easy issue to deal with. The earth provides more than enough for everyone on the planet. Giving your money to some organization will NEVER solve the problem. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY!!!
We want the government to provide ourselves with health care and education. And while they are at it, we might as well provide it for the rest of the world. People build jets and trade for a profit and to keep a business running. What's their government doing for them? I'd start working on their government first, that's where the problem starts. Where does "free education" come from.... taxes? Ending poverty would be nice, but it doesn't sound like you've found a good way yet. ..... In my name.
The answer to stopping poverty is not to feed everyone or donate millions. That does not work very well. It only saves about 5% of those impoverished. The only real solution is violent revolution against the corrupted system of the modern world. When people are impoverished, they begin to breed like crazy. This is not natural, it is the governments of these people causing all this. The only way is to remove the government with a non corrupt one.
one of the reasons they breed like crazy is cos of the catholic church they convert the countrys suffering from poverty and dont allow them to use any condoms so there is unnaturaly high birth rates and also spreads aids
also i disagree with the violent revolution against the corrupted system
Also, it´s not about eliminating the upper class--it´s about lessening inequality. In the US we are facing record levels of inequality, it wasn´t always like this. The real question is, why are some people so incredibly poor and other people so incredibly rich? We will never have an entirely equal society income or asset wise, but we can certainly make the differences less radical.
You want to know who to blame? Blame martial dictators. Blame the men and boys that follow them. Blame the terrain. Blame drought. Blame bad farming practices. Money isn't going to fix any of that. And those are the things keeping 3rd world countries poor.
rachparov: ever hear of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation? It´s the most richly endowed foundation in the country. Bill Gates donated around $30 billion to this foundation (and Warren Buffet very recently decided to give another $30 billion); it´s main focus is on health. I´m not a big Microsoft fan, but let´s give credit where due.
I have no doubt he has a foundation, i mean mc donald has as well, see what i mean? Not a bill gates hater, i'm not even jealous of him as i have everything i need but if you need money, you know exactly where to find it.(obviously you'd look for the richest personne in the us, not only bill)
I believe that you are %100 correct. All that I ever hear from these celebrities is how bad America is. I am pretty sure that if they lived in Cuba or smack dab in the middle of Africa and then moved to The States they would probably be over joyed that there is a place like America on Earth. We don't have all the answers and our politicians are mostly corrupt idiots who couldn't cut it in the private sector but there is good to be found in Americas model of government.
poverty is not something that u eliminate by chanting and marching. Most poor ppl are poor because they make poor choices. The job of getting better is something that roots in the ppl themselves, not asking productive ppl to provide everything for welfare hogs. They are all good to count someone else's money, but want to do little themselves to improve their standards of life.
It takes more than money to bring things up, and as the one before me stated, why don't we start taking the money of the artists showing up?...We can't?...as i though...
Oh and tell bill gate to give some of his billions, that's insane, what can he possibly do with it?...
Want to transition out of this socio/economic mess? The book is The Grand Design by author John H Brand. It is not specifically about poverty, but about the human brain. For example did you know we have a triune brain! Basically three operating systems. The current world systems (monetary/gov't) were built using the basal ganglia (territory, hierarchy, ritual & deceit)our lowest brain! Neocortex is highest and it is this we should build our systems on. GOOGLE VIDEO John H Brand see video.
I should also add that in order for the MDGs to be properly funded, it would require each developed country to dedicate a grand total of 1% of its GDP to the cause. So if you are worried about the economy collapsing, don´t be; the amount of money required is really quite trivial compared to the vast resources rich countries have at their disposal.
If we "end poverty" by cancelling all the third world debt, the economy would collapse, and they'd be even poorer.
If celebs care so much, they should band together and donate 75% of their net bank accounts, which should sort out all poverty in the world. Do you see them doing that? NO. I see them getting publicity by being on a stupid advert.
survive on a daily basis (sorry too many characters in the last post). Most of the plans about eliminating poverty have to do with providing investments in infrastructure, health, education, as well as making the world trade system more fair. It´s not about giving hand-outs, but creating an equal playing field for everyone (ie not having to choose between being able to eat or being able to buy medicine). Read Jeff Sach´s book The End of Poverty, a practical vision of how to fulfill the MDGs
Vidda90: one thing that this video does not make clear is that the Millenium Development Goals are targeted specifically at ending EXTREME poverty. Sadly, there are different ¨levels¨ of poverty, and the MDG´s aim to halve only the worst type by 2015. I doubt anybody would argue with you that it is possible to completely end all forms of poverty (¨relative¨ poverty is how poverty in developing countries is categorized), but again, the MDGs are about helping those who are barely able to
Can I just say, there is no need for racism, the campaign may not be successful, but at least they're raising important issues in the world. I'm truly disgusted by some of these comments!!!!!
Lol who makes these prisons of poverty? Do you think they will allow this to happen? No because 300 million people can't stand up to 10,000. The reason we can't is because they keep us divided by race, religion and social class.
Lostluvr86: it´s kind of hard for people to get jobs if they live in an area where there is nothing beyond subsistence agriculture. If you have lived your entire life in the US this is probably hard to imagine, but people living in extreme poverty (defined as less than $1 a day) tend to live in rural areas, without access to formal jobs. Obviously this kind of poverty only exists in ¨developing¨countries (no, this is not my opinion, this is basic World Bank information).
Well, I may be racially aware - e.g. I will notice skin color and other facial characteristics and automatically assign to the person some categorization. However, this degree of categorization is not dissimilar from the amount I would apply to people of similar skin color as myself. So, while I do notice colour I would not say that I am racist because of this. How would you suggest that people who notice colour differences and sincerely treat all people equally are racists? I seriously mean it.
So if you were walking down a deserted street late at night and you were being trailed by two men, would you make no distinction if they were white or black?
My reaction towards them would not be based on their skin colour. I would be nervous about being trailed regardless. Some would find it interesting that you use "men" in you example. They would suggest this as sexism in suggesting that men are the sole perpetrators of inflicting harm. Back to topic. I would base my reaction based on the manner in which they were following me (coincidental or intentional) and other visual data about them - e.g. are they intoxicated? wearing gang paraphernalia?
So, there are FAR more salient visual cues as to whether or not I should be scared in that situation than race. And that is not a likely situation for a lot of people. Also, I'd like to add that I have experienced a lot more of hatred expressed towards me and my ethnic group from other Europeans and "White" Americans than from Blacks. I simply am not part of either of the traditional "black" and "white" american communities. So, their relations are not something that bother me.
rarely, you are talking about a few examples you saw on 60 minutes. If it didn't cost less to get something made in another country, we would make it in our own, and they would be even more screwed.
Okay this is effective advertising -- I can't stand seeing suffering children.
However, we need to understand why there is poverty and the answer can't be a one linger: "Greed" or "Corporate Greed" or "CEOs" or "Privatization" or "Welfare"
Poverty is destroyed in Jobs and Practical Education.
So people come to Americans for answers yet over 20% of highschool seniors didn't graduate, those that did after 12 years of education they are worth minimum wage!
The only answer is God's Kingdom- you cannot put your trust in nobles -Psalm 146:3 God's kingdom will put an end to tall these kingdoms, meaning God's government will be the only one-Daniel 2:44 and his is the only one that can bring about an end to poverty and bring true and everlasting peace here on earth.-Psalms 72:4, 7, 8 and Psalms 37: 10,11,29-Revelation 21:3, 4
Humans are not capable of even directing their own steps as history proves=Jeremiah 10:23. Only God, Jehovah God can do this.
well asia and whites are hard workers. Africa is in a whole mess of trouble and their ecodomy if falling apart. a lot of blacks drop out of school and dont have an education and get involved in drugs, and crime.
Poverty will always exist but, it can be reduced to miniscule levels. However, I don't believe the burden should be placed on first world countries. We are just giving them handouts. It will probably last them for a year or so, but it won't change their work ethic or the circumstances they are living in. It's like giving a dog a bone here. Their countries should work with them and actually make them productive to contribute to their economy. If not that atleast multi-national corporations.
Seriously though, if Americans were dirt poor then we wouldn't be crying "woe is me" and pleading for billions of dollars from China. We would simply fix the problem ourselves. Help our own communities share resources instead of robbing each other every chance we get and reverting to tribalism.
Why can't they follow China's example and get themselves out of poverty? Why does Africa have to be the welfare continent? Throwing money at someone else's problem will make things worse in the long run.
Just because we have the internet, computers, and advanced technology doesn't mean can keep feeding millions of people without jobs.
They may think they are using their hearts but they are using other people's money. Its always amazing to me to see how quick people are to spend their neighbor's money.
At 1 minute and 53 seconds, does the narrator say 'promise to have extreme poverty'? At 5mins 20 seconds, the singer song writer says that 'climate change affects us all, but it effects poor people the most because they rely on farming and fishing to feed their families.' Should be because they don't have proper mitigations, and how will people stop Cambodia's poverty? But what is the real reason for not giving money to other countries? Tax laws? NRG consumption wise? Overpopulation?
It will exists because people won't get off their rears and do something about it. And these people jsut keep having more and more kids regardless of if they can feed them. Maybe we should go in with birth control and teach them how to say no. But we can make ourselves unable to help anyone else if we just give it all away. We do alot now. I don't know the answer unless we have one world government that would take form some and give to others to waste and not work for it. gov would bcome corrpt
I live in the US. If that's what you think corrution is, i'd like to tell you a few things about the federal income tax code...but i wont (it's 193,000 pages) I will tell you that it indeed takes money from every single ordinary worker and gives it to overpaid construction companies to build substandard roads.
And what exactly does 'inmyname' want to do about the governments in these small impoverished countries for shooting aid-workers, and living like kings while their people stave to death?
This is really the heart of communism. The idea is that you evenly distribute wealth amoung all. The motivation is to do as little as possible since your wealth is not related to your effort.
If we evenly distributed the wealth the poor countries would quickly become more poor since the US would no longer generate the new wealth that today provides the lion's share of food and medical relief.
There is a new way. It can end every one from beinning poor but it will change the Economics of the world and free every one from a lot of hard laber.
It's so devastating that the U.S Government is spending $700 BILLION DOLLARS <--- to bail out an insurance company when that money could save countless lives and help an incredible amount of people. This is a greedy world we live in.
It's not an insurance company lack-wit. It's bailing out the entire federal loans system on which an enormous portion of the international economy is based. If the banks crash, it will be another Great Depression, except this time it will affect everyone who depends on US loans for support. IE: all those poor countries.
That's 700 billion dollars that doesn't exist yet. Hope you like paying taxes so that rich people can buck the laws of capitolism and stay rich even though they're all pretty useless. I'd prefer they not spend 700 billion dollars buying a business that will not generate a return.
You cannot end poverty. It's like asking someone to stop eating; the person then will die. Is same with our system amd with life, people need to die, by hunger, violence wars, injustice, you name it. Its because of that that we can make videos and post them on Youtube; because of the system.
We need to stop worrying, do what we can and accept life for what is, otherwise there is NO LIFE.
Help the poor, spare change to the homeless, but end world poverty is Impossible! "Life feeds on Life"
It's impossible. As soon as we elevate those in poverty to a decent living status, millions of poor immigrants enter the country. And we can't eliminate poverty all over the world. That would be interfering.
The US already gives more money for food and medical than all the countries in Europe combined. Most of us are sick of being told we aren't giving enough by countries that are not giving 1/2 of what we give.
America is far bigger than all of those countries. If you didn't know that, then you need to go look at a map. I'm surprised people like you can read.
More than 47% of all the money in the world is owned by the people in USA. You might wanna ask them? Eh?
And I hate these stupid celebrities that live in castle like houses, than come here and try to look like a good person trying to help. Stop filming, start helping ;)
Humans made the world this way. There was no poverty, humans created it. Anyone can end poverty in just 1 second if they want it. Just go live like animals in the woods. All your problems would be solved. All!
Poor become poorer and rich becomes richer... So i do not wish to speak bout that... Just do the best in what we could contribute in to helpin the poor...... It doesn't matter whether its gon be a dollar or a hundred... Its a waste of time to speak of others and wait for someone to come in... We just gotta do our part if we can ...
I didn't say anyone in the world. I said anyone in America. See, the majority of people do think like you, that's why they won't ever be rich. I can show anyone how to be rich if they want to be. Here is a good place to start- read Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill and the Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles. Good luck my friend.
Well said. When I was younger I was able to figure this out myself. I imagined a situation where we would distribute the wealth evenly and thought it would be best. But then I realized that the money would quickly leave those that are foolish and spend it unwisely and end up back in the hands of those that save and are smart with their money.
Tough luck, there are rich people and there are poor people. Glad I can buy McDonald's today and eat that garbage and be full. I just have too much going on in my life to worry about other people, tough luck.
i new that goverments are trying to cut poverty in half by 2015. I also knew that poverty does kill people i thought it would be like 20,000 a year not 50,000 a day! I really am going to be more active now. My church is helping with this. This past winter was poverty awareness. now we are doing fair trade awareness and im really going to get involved with that because that helps people in poverty in diffrent nations.
Exactly. If you redistribute wealth it will end up in the same hands as before within a few years. Poor people (in America at least) are poor for a reason. The are not willing to take the correct daily actions to become rich. They would rather watch Dancing with the Stars and drink beers and wait for their unemployment or welfare check.
That's not apathy!! That is optimism! I'm saying that anyone who wants to change their lives can once they make the decision to do so. I would love to help anyone get out of that mindset and on the path to become rich.
What is your explanation? That "the government is keeping them down"? That's just sad.
I've been down and out, I made changes in my life, now I'm doing well. I want EVERYONE to do the same, but no one can make them. It has to be their decision.
It's not a matter of being 'down and out', it's the attitude you have when it happens to you. Rich people will tend to get out of the situation in almost no time.
And attitudes like this perpetuate the problem. Americans need to change their self-centered ways of thinking. People in America are poor for many reasons. I know many rich people in America who would rather sit home and drink beer and watch Dancing w/ Stars than try to help their neighbor. "Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of God" - The measure of a person's character has nothing to do with monetary wealth.

IN MY NAME!

It is our responsibility to protect each other from suffering and extinction as God's instruments that we are.

natesohl, they are talking about extreme poverty in this vid, not welfare poverty. When you talk about bad decisions how many children do you think chose to be born into this? Whereas I agree with your thoughts on foolishness, its clear from your statement that you have never experienced the kind of desperation that these people live in.

Period.

It doesn't matter whether any other country can or can't spend money on poverty; it doesn't matter if we think we can't end poverty. What matters is that we become aware and try whatever we can to end poverty.

Rich as in does everyone make over a certain amount of money a year? But yeah define rich.

the only way to stop poverty is through education. if we could teach governments how to make succesful countries instead of being selfish, that is when poverty will end. Giving them money may help them for a little while (if the governments don't use it for themselves) but they'll end up exactly in the same place as before.

I was thinking the same thing when I heard that.
upthebuttmonkey 3 years ago
slimbigpapa- I with you that we cant end world poverty and that there is power in the name above all names: Jesus. But just because we can't end poverty doesn't mean we shouldn't try. We should fight for justice but poverty is injustice.
Yes Christianity offers life after death, but the world is beginning to wonder if there is life before death. be that vessel that provides life for someone.

RStarga 3 years ago
If you want to criticize realism then you have to embrace realism. Realism is all about the power that we have. The reality is that we HAVE the power to change the world. Perhaps its better to be optimistic regarding our position and at least try to make things better. To give up does little to help anyone. That is what I assume you mean by it being an "illusion". If we educate the poor we increase our likelihood of finding a solution. Try not to be so grim and hopeless. :)

Just use the national credit card! They support the war, just not with money or help. It is the thought that counts- right? However, Chinese stickers of the American flag adorn their Toyota's bumper.

Islam makes it an obligation upon every believer to give 2.5% of his wealth as charity to the poor every year.if the three richest men do this, poverty would be WIPED OFF africa. the solution isnt in making a big noise about what poverty is.its about acting together in getting rid of it.
SaracenArrow 3 years ago
Why do people insist that the act of charity is better in the cold hands of a government bureaucracy?
Doesn't that take the face-to-face humanity out of charity?
It makes it easier to wash one's hands of someone else's misfortune by dumping the burden of charity on the government.
The role of government is NOT to play Robin Hood. The role of government is to preserve and defend our Liberty, PERIOD.

Where does "free education" come from.... taxes? Ending poverty would be nice, but it doesn't sound like you've found a good way yet. ..... In my name.
funkypants21 3 years ago 3
The answer to stopping poverty is not to feed everyone or donate millions. That does not work very well. It only saves about 5% of those impoverished. The only real solution is violent revolution against the corrupted system of the modern world. When people are impoverished, they begin to breed like crazy. This is not natural, it is the governments of these people causing all this. The only way is to remove the government with a non corrupt one.
jihadjared 3 years ago 4
one of the reasons they breed like crazy is cos of the catholic church they convert the countrys suffering from poverty and dont allow them to use any condoms so there is unnaturaly high birth rates and also spreads aids
also i disagree with the violent revolution against the corrupted system

Also, it´s not about eliminating the upper class--it´s about lessening inequality. In the US we are facing record levels of inequality, it wasn´t always like this. The real question is, why are some people so incredibly poor and other people so incredibly rich? We will never have an entirely equal society income or asset wise, but we can certainly make the differences less radical.

rachparov: ever hear of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation?

So if you are worried about the economy collapsing, don´t be; the amount of money required is really quite trivial compared to the vast resources rich countries have at their disposal.
gm3051986 3 years ago

So if you were walking down a deserted street late at night and you were being trailed by two men, would you make no distinction if they were white or black?
bucksatan1 3 years ago
My reaction towards them would not be based on their skin colour. I would be nervous about being trailed regardless. Some would find it interesting that you use "men" in you example. They would suggest this as sexism in suggesting that men are the sole perpetrators of inflicting harm. Back to topic. I would base my reaction based on the manner in which they were following me (coincidental or intentional) and other visual data about them - e.g. are they intoxicated? wearing gang paraphernalia?
369gx 3 years ago
So, there are FAR more salient visual cues as to whether or not I should be scared in that situation than race. And that is not a likely situation for a lot of people. Also, I'd like to add that I have experienced a lot more of hatred expressed towards me and my ethnic group from other Europeans and "White" Americans than from Blacks. I simply am not part of either of the traditional "black" and "white" american communities. So, their relations are not something that bother me.

McStabbins 3 years ago
This is really the heart of communism. The idea is that you evenly distribute wealth amoung all. The motivation is to do as little as possible since your wealth is not related to your effort.
If we evenly distributed the wealth the poor countries would quickly become more poor since the US would no longer generate the new wealth that today provides the lion's share of food and medical relief.

It's not an insurance company lack-wit. It's bailing out the entire federal loans system on which an enormous portion of the international economy is based.

Well said. When I was younger I was able to figure this out myself. I imagined a situation where we would distribute the wealth evenly and thought it would be best. But then I realized that the money would quickly leave those that are foolish and spend it unwisely and end up back in the hands of those that save and are smart with their money.

iknowthatyouwillfind 3 years ago
Exactly. If you redistribute wealth it will end up in the same hands as before within a few years. Poor people (in America at least) are poor for a reason. The are not willing to take the correct daily actions to become rich. They would rather watch Dancing with the Stars and drink beers and wait for their unemployment or welfare check.
rjp203 3 years ago
Good luck with that apathy. I hope you never get down and out.
jet107911 3 years ago
That's not apathy!! That is optimism! I'm saying that anyone who wants to change their lives can once they make the decision to do so. I would love to help anyone get out of that mindset and on the path to become rich.
What is your explanation? That "the government is keeping them down"? That's just sad.
I've been down and out, I made changes in my life, now I'm doing well. I want EVERYONE to do the same, but no one can make them. It has to be their decision.
rjp203 3 years ago
It's not a matter of being 'down and out', it's the attitude you have when it happens to you. Rich people will tend to get out of the situation in almost no time.
jfsimard79 3 years ago
And attitudes like this perpetuate the problem. Americans need to change their self-centered ways of thinking. People in America are poor for many reasons. I know many rich people in America who would rather sit home and drink beer and watch Dancing w/ Stars than try to help their neighbor. "Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of God" - The measure of a person's character has nothing to do with monetary wealth.
