  • I wonder how many people understand the roots of James Brown's music today. True, unadulterated African-American Southern blues/r&b/soul, all of which came directly from gospel music. To watch and listen to this (again;-) decades later is a gift. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • This was a live version! This was from Shindig. had to be, James had no whiote guys in his band at the time. Great spin, and mike grab at 2:09. From my home town of Aiken, S.C., saw him at 12 yrs.old at the Walt Whitman Field-house in Bethesda, MD. Changed my life.

  • Thank God! An actual live performance on a mid sixties TV show! Just like 'Night Train'. I never liked it when he lip synced to his hits during that time. Of course he had no choice if he wanted to be on those shows, but normally he gave up any pretext of lip syncing and mostly danced.

  • @PaulDA2000 Very true, as James was so creative, he was never too good at lip syncing.
