How is it E locrian? That is totally unrelated to the key of C# Minor (E major) which is the key he's in...... E Locrian is the 7th mode of F. Modes are irrelevant anyway in this tune.
@jamesco89 How are modes irrelevant in this song when they are being used? Modes are always used, even if its the relative keys. The key change at 2 mins into the song, goes to A Harmonic minor. also uses a mode of Harmonic minor, the 7th to be specific. Its called Mixolydian #1 and starts on G#, ascends through to build up to the solo. C# Aeolian & D# Locrian are both equivalents. The @jmsatriani guy is high.
@justinhoman There is no key change (other than E - C#m from the intro), the solo part which you were referring to is still in the key of C# Minor but built off the 5th mode (G# phyrgian dominant) which contradicts what I said(!). Apart from that they are irrelevant because he isn't using them, he is starting C# minor on a different note, but landing on a primary note of the C# minor triad. If he was playing D# locrian as someone suggested, there would be m7b5 chords around. Which there isn't.
@jamesco89 You said another contradicting thing. Your thing about the C#m triad. The C#m triad consists of C# -E -G# though. He starts and lands on D#, 11th fret of the e string. D# is not a "primary note" of the C#m triad like you said. His ascending is D# E F# G# A B C# D#. then to E for the descending C#m arpeggio. The harmonic minor part ends on a primary part of the C#m triad, but definitely not the C#m ascent to D#. D# definitely isnt in the triad.
@1148bucknasty Technically yes it is the 7th mode of E major, but what was going on in his mind was the 6th mode of E major, which is C# minor. You can't say its two different modes at once. If you want to get even more technical, he starts on the 2nd note of the C#minor he stated he was ascending which is 1 step above the 6th being the 7th locrian. C#minor and E locrian are both correct. So Paul wasn't wrong in stating it as such =)
What a great guitar player !! This is how every guitar heroe should be. Ready to share his know how with all the others. Perfect Paul, great sense of humour, nothing to say about technic, great composer !! What else can we say ??
@EricClaptonFan24 The way you said the modes are wrong. You don't state the note of the mode, you state the original key. The correct way to type it would be E locrian & E Aeolian. =)
DAMN! I wrote a lick yesterday that I know I can build a song off of but I was playing it in my head trying to come up with stuff and it's basically the same fucking thing as the intro to this song just not as cool lol
@crisDAwog i ment the pedals and the amp the amp he uses is a vintage moderern not i think hes using a randy rhoad sig in this vid but yea the vintage modern would be around 2000 25000 roughly and the pedals shouldnt be more thne 2 grand so yea
How come he doesn't teach you the whole song (SFBADR) ?? ...And yes, i checked segment #2 as well, there he just teches the tapping and then moves on the eudamoinia overture.... Is it just how it's on the DVD, or is there something wrong with this video? (it's great quality though, thanks). Pls answer...
paul is definitely the most down to earth shredder, with a very colorful imagination. always has a humorous vibe, coupled with serious intent to create something new and exciting. I think its awesome he shares his technique and knowledge without being an arrogant "i'm the best" attitude, which set aside from his playing skill, is why he is regarded so highly. He should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame.
wow awesome HQ Widescreen! only the fucking image is squished. so many idiots on youtube now uploading videos with incorrect aspect ratio only to get widescreen.
the aspect ratio of the original is 1.33:1 (aka 4:3) .the ratio of your upload is 16:9. go read description of the dvd on amazon to see if im lying about the aspect ratio.
One of the best things about Paul is his choice of fingerings, whenever I work his stuff out by ear I end up with something much harder and less comfortable than he has for the same notes. I wonder if its natural or if he checks out each possible place?
Can anybody tell me at 5;40 if he is doing alternate picking on that string skipping arpeggio? His hands are way to fast for my eyes lol even at a fraction of his normal playing speed lol
@NamretliF Right. But I just wanna get down his exact picking pattern. Anybody know if this DVD include tabs? I thought I read a comment that mentioned that. Maybe the tab would show the picking pattern. Ive checked out his other lessons, and he breaks down the exact picking pattern, pretty cool
Sure, I'll try and upload it onto another tracker tomorrow. But for now try "Firefox + SkipScreen plugin". It helps a lot on filesharing sites like mediafire!
Yeah its $9000, its a modified Ibanez Iceman, called the Ibanez Fireman, and only 50 have been made. Although i suppose if you knew a good wood worker or guitar maker ( i forgot their actual name) you could have one built similar for about 2-3k
