More or less true, I'd agree but at least he uses those FACT thingies that are so blatantly missing from the Republican Party Propaganda Network, Faux News, where it's nearly impossible to find dissent on the network ALL DAY, let alone 1 hour.
And in this case, why would Olbermann ask someone on to disagree about FACTS?
@ROOKTABULA lol, so in your eyes and the eyes of msnbc viewers there are never two sides of an argument.!!?!!? the day kieth oberman interviews rush Limbaugh is the day msnbc becomes more popular than fox. but intel then the rest of americans who arent mindless sheep and like both sides of the story will be watching fox...
@ROOKTABULA I wouldn't worry about the kind of people that bring up absurd points like that. They are simply trying to find something to pick at with someone whom they disagree with politically just to divert the subject to something else. Olbermann might not be the most loved media figure out there, but, as you may know, he is certainly one of the more truthful and fact-based ones. Along with Rachel Maddow, and a few others, they expose the right for their hypocrisy and that pisses them off.

I wonder if watching Faux News makes people just ignorant and fearful OR actually causes retardation in knuckle draggers like this simian, MurphyMoron?
I'm betting the former results from being a bit of the latter, before becoming MORE of a bender.....
i hate you dirt-poor liberals blaming Bush for all your problems. Accusing Bush of cheating. Look at Obama. He isnt even American. And he is ruining the country. And to rumplestillskull. You idiot. There is no such thing as unity. The only way you have a united world is if it is run by people with similar beliefs. i bet you wouldnt call the Nazis your people when you know they killed over 10 million people because they didnt like them.
Keep in mind folks this, the Bush administation is a small gang of 20 or so people that lied to the people of the US and fooled them, they are Traitors to our country and today are powerless.
They are part of the rob the poor and give to the rich crowd and they have counterparts in every country on this planet.
Don't blame the country blame the Greedy all over the Earth that treat people as cattle.
rumple you are truly an idiot. i have heard your arguments from other cunt americans before. you forget that these republican bastards were voted in by over 50% of your population! does that tell you something at all?
i blame the people of US when you vote in criminals to office
Masedama First off you start out with insults so your not willing to talk you want to fight.
Second Bushes brother fixed the election by hiding votes and not counting them in Florida.
So Al gore was the legal winner in the first bush so called win.
It was a coup Most people in this country Hate bush.....he cheated he's a criminal i guess maybe 30 percent of humanity is that way but don't judge me by some guy i don't like that lives down the street.
don`t tell me the people of the us didn`t want bush to sit there as a leader when he has been in charge for 8 years. i too think he cheated at the last election, but that was to turn things to his advantage!! 49% still voted for him. so to tell us that your people is not to blame, is infact bullshit
I'm not a stupid moron the country i live in isn't my people If you think the country you live in is your people then your country first and Human second.I'm a citizen of the Earth and all Humans are my people.
Masedama, You make a good point. It is our stupid nation that voted for him. However, incase you don't know how our politics work, people will vote for whoever it is running in their party. Especially right wing extremists. They don't care. They hate the democratic party more than the like there own. So this backs up your statement that people are stupid and will vote for whoever it is that they want, as long as it gets the other guy out of the way
just remember this wasnt a retalliation it was an invasion because there was no declaration of war within there country there was no warning to iraq or iran or alqaieeeeeeduh as bush would say... u know its hard to beleive people actually still like the man george bush hes fucking stupid
American government:war criminals and torturers! They fight countries producing chemical weapons just to be the only ones to own them(and the only ones to use'em)Hateful mondial police with no right to teach democracy to anyone! Thanks God I'm born in Europe!Violence in USA is your daily bread, fucked up people with no family sense(unless daddy is very rich)!Ridiculous puppets enslaved by media and money...people with no history but genocides... exporting terrorism poverty and ignorance inthe world
No matter how long you have stuck your head under the sand the rest of the world never believed that you ever had any morality at all. They never doubted that "your moral high grounds" ever existed. US Gov has been involved directly in nuking civilians, killing, and torture, with Shah of Iran, Pinochet, ZIA, Batista, Mosharaf, Greece's Generals, ..., and Sharon, mass murder in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Korea as recently as 5 years ago in Europe. The rest of the world never thought you had any Mr.!
I don't condone those things. In fact I view them as shameful aspects of US history. That's part of my point. Since the US government has done lots of bad things in the past, they should be doing less now.
I just have one more question for all of you here. If you were an interrogation officer in the US military and u had in your captivity a high ranking terrorist with knowledge of an attack on innocent civilians anywhere in the world. And you decided to do "the right thing" and not torture him and extract information. And you parents or someone you cared about was killed in that attack, would it really be enough compensation knowing that u took "the moral high ground"?
yes there is a bigger issue but thats not what we're debating. and that bigger issue can be solved by things like wiretaps and better surveillance which is opposed by the same people who oppose waterboarding
Fuck All of you people. Fuck MSNBC you god damn people are idiots torture has to be used in order to prevent things like 9/11 and i bet ud rather have people torture than lose your life ina terrorist attack because you were too pussy to get someone to talk and u let mohhamed and his little terrorist buddies sit in guantanmo and be treated "humanely". Do you think american soldiers and journalists who are beheaded in Iraq are treated humanely, what about the people who died in 9/11?
"torture has to be used in order to prevent things like 9/11"
SO are YOU going to tell the soldiers and operatives of your country, and mine when they're confused for Amerikans maybe, how you feel because THEY have been tortured cuz AMerika has decided to ignore the Int'l law adhered to by all CIVILIZED nations that what they went thru was OKAY?
One citizen of my country was tortured and imprisoned by accident by your hunta and is not the only one.
do u really think that those muslim extremists who hate America always have hated America and always will hate America are going to treat captured Americans more humanely if we stop torturing them. American soldiers have been tortured by them for years before America ever used waterboarding, or before anyone knew we were doing it. i hope America stops obeying the geneva convention which is more concerned with the protection for terrorist who murdered thousands of people than with those people
And, stupidvideodude, did it ever dawn on you WHY these people hate America? I am NOT defending them or what they do, but they have motives, and, no, it's not because "they hate us for our freedom". They're pissed off at the US government for meddling and doing things it shouldn't in their countries for the past sixty years.
stupidvideodude, even if you think it's for the greater good, it still shouldn't be used because torture is unreliable. If a person is in extreme pain they may say anything to make it stop, especially if they don't have the info, but the interrogator thinks he does.
Torture someone long enough and they'll confess to anything.
yes torture doesnt always work however it does sometimes so it should be kept as an option for the US government and these people hate America for dumb reasons and we have helped them before like when we helped the Afghanis fight the Russians yes they think they have reasons good enough to kill 3000 people but trust me we have better reasons to hate them
No, it should never be kept as an option. Wasn't this war supposed to be about helping the Iraqis and improving their lives? What the hell does that say about us if we invade and start using the same tactics the regime from before used? Doesn't that make us the bad guys? Doesn't that make us a bunch of lying hypocrites?
no it doesnt, it's not as I've said before we're not torturing innocent people or even regular insurgent fighters, only 3 men have been waterboarded, that's it. These are high ranking terrorists with knowledge of things that could help America to prevent attacks. saddam hussein was gassing innocent civilians, it's very different
Even John McCain admitted that when he was being held as a POW in Vietnam, he confessed to untrue things when he was being tortured.\
The way to prevent future terrorist attacks is to stop invading countries and to stop meddling in the affairs of the Muslim world. That is why they attack us.
well they attacked us before we invaded iraq and we actually had pretty good relations with many middle eastern nations and yes John McCain was held POW but like i've said many times theres a big difference between capturing a regular ranking soldier like John McCain and a mastermind or a general we dont interrogate the John McCains of the insurgency "army" we do however interrogate the Petraeus's of the insurgency (i know they cant really be compared but i think u guys get the idea)
we didnt exactly do that we DID help the afghanis and it wasnt military operations nothing VERY and come on thats not the only reason there are verses in the koran that say they should cut the neck of the infidel with a sword and verses that say when after mohammed slaughtered the jews he looked out on the valley and smiled i laugh when islam is called the religion of peace
And you think the Bible doesn't say things like that? I guarantee for every violent thing you find in the Quran, you can find one in the Bible.
The religion is just used as a driving force, something to rally them. Their real motive is revenge against the US government for its actions in the Middle East.
well im not religious so i wouldnt know but im pretty sure that its not as violent all i know is that they worship someone who slaughtered jews and was happy bout it catholism doesnt drive people to blow themselves in crowded places and the us government didnt do anything that bad and even if we did it was under Bush so why do you guys hate Bush so much You said in an earlier post that we've been meddeling in their affairs for 60 years Bush has only been president for 7
Maybe Christians haven't blown themselves up in the name of their religion, but they have committed just about every other violent act in the name of it. Islam and Christianity are just two sides of the same coin.
It's not just Bush who's been doing it. It's every president back to FDR. The US government has done some bad stuff in the Middle East like putting the Shah into power in Iran in the 50's and supporting him, or backing Saddam Hussein in the 80's or bombing Iraq since 1991.
i dont think u can compare the two but i do know that in islam women have to wear burkas and have close to no rights. Islamic extremists went crazy and rioted and burned cars when some pretty funny cartoons were printed, do u know how much people make fun of Jesus, catholics.
You're judging all based on some. The truth is that in most Muslim countries women are not required to wear burqas, and choose to do so. Most muslim countries do give women rights. You're judging them all based on the more extreme places like Afghanistan under the Taliban.
Yeah, they do extreme things over little things like the cartoons, but it didn't get this way over night. It's the result of a build up of hatred against the US government's actions.
also if wut u said is true then why do u blame Bush? Plus not supporting the shah would have been disastrous. Had we supported the islamic revolution it would have been the same as support for the same terrorists who held hostages in an embassy, remember that? and wut else were we to do but back saddam we didnt know he would gas kurds and kill innocent people. thats like blaming the germans cus they voted Hitler in, they didnt know he was gonna kill millions of jews
Tell that to the Iranians. You try to explain to them it was a good thing the CIA overthrew thier democratic government and put the Shah, a ruthless dictator into power, simply for access to Iran's oil. how would you feel if another country did that here. I imagine you'd be pretty pissed.
Plus, it was supporting the Shah that led to an even worse government taking power.
Plus, the US harbored the Shah after he was overthrown instead of turning him over to the Iranians to face trial for his crimes.
Think about how the families of the ones killed on 9/11 felt after the Taliban refused to turn over Osama Bin Laden. It's very much the same. After both, people were screaming for blood.
Are you insane? You think backing Saddam was a ghood thing? "What other choice did we have?"
There was another choice, how about NOT supporting and giving chemical weapons to the ruthless dictator? Our government knew damn well he had been killing people, since he'd been doing it for a decade before the Iraq-Iran War.
Plus, if Iran was so evil, why on earth did our government sell weapons to them as well? Play both sides and you're going to make a lot of people angry.
the iran-iraq war was very different, Iran was the agressor the Iraqi's were right in that war. And really saddam (or another Baathist party memeber) was the only one who could have brought peace to that region. We just didn't know he would gas his own countrymen, u cant blame the govt for that. And we didnt give the iranis weapons and we didnt give Saddam chemical weapons we gave him weapons when we put him in power and we gave the taliban weapons to fight the russians
Iraq invaded Iran. Saddam Hussein's goal in that war was to take over Iran, so he could rule, and you're claiming that was right?
Didn't know he would gas his own countrymen? What else do you think a ruthless dictator was going to do with chemical weapons? That's like leaving a pedohile alone with a bunch of kids and then saying "Well, how were we supposed to know?"
Can't blame the government? Saddam WAS the government. His word was law.
so by ur own logic, weren't we right to overthrow Saddam. And like i said before wut ur doin is like blaming the Jews who voted for Hitler before they knew he was going to kill them. Saddam was good at first and turned bad, that and the fact that there is alqeda in Iraq were why we went in there. And he wasnt a ruthless dictator before we put him in power thats just false info. yes iraq invaded but only cus iran kept going over there borders and were the real agressors of the war
What gives the US the right to go around telling other countries how to do things?
Don't even try to compare Saddam to Hitler. Hitler was openly preaching world domination. Plus. he took over several countries, most major countries in a matter of months.
Saddam couldn't even take over one country in eight years, even with backing from the US government.
he didn't tell the people who voted him into office that he was planning on taking over the world, he lied like Saddam lied, thats the only comparison that I'm making. Yes hitler was obviously much worse but they both lied to people and then, once in office, became dictators and killed people.
and what do u mean What gives the US the right to tell people what to do. Should we completely stop taking sides in wars? should we stop supporting our ally, the Israelis, cus we dont have right to tell the muslims to stop killing innocent Jews. Should the US go back to our 1900's policy of isolation? is that what u really want?
"Should the US go back to our 1900's policy of isolation?"
YES, YES, YES, That would be wonderful. Because had we stuck to that policy we wouldn't have people ramming airplanes into our buildings or blowing up our embassies or our ships.
ok you're right, let's stop intervening in all foreign affairs lose our allies, and get out of NATO. A policy of isolation would force us out of NATO. And we'd lose alot of our allies. Also it would horrible economically, we'd lose alot of trade. I know it sounds good, but isolation would be horrible in today's world. We are a world superpower, we can't just sit in our own little corner.
we did trade, but it was limited. Our economy became alot better after our isolation period. And I've read his speech before. But he was referring to Europe. And also that was a very different time, America was a new nation, we had no power. We are now one of the biggest (if not the biggest) superpower in the world. And these people are crazy, alot of them hate us just for supporting Israel. Do you suugest we stop doing that?
Ah, yes, the classic lines. "It was a different place. It was a different time."
That doesn't change a thing. His warning still held true even as the US changed , and the consequences stayed the same for ignoring it.
Why they hate us goes a lot farther than just backing Israel. That's just one reason.]
The US was never meant to be this way, not an empire, and certianly not the world's police. Our nation wanted independance FROM an empire and now we are one.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"- Edmund Burke The US can not just remain in our own little corner. And no the time doesn't change a thing, but the US's power and place in the world changes a lot. But u know what when we do become isolationist again, the first thing that we should do is to withdraw from the UN and stop signing the Geneva convention. I'm sure that's what u want.
And yes maybe an isolationist policy would solve a few problems. But what would have happened if the US had a non interventionist or isolationist policy in WWII (yes i know we were attacked by the japs first, but they wouldn't have attacked us if we had stayed completely neutral and not supported Britain.) Europe would have fallen and the world would be in disarray. I'm not trying to compare the Iraq war and WWII but im just talking bout the danger of a non-interventionist policy
Let em clarify/ Wahsington said not to meddlie in other countries' affairs unless they affected the US. WWII was an affair that affected the US.
It is because the US began meddling that these people became angry at us. Maybe the US had some good intentions, but like the saying goes, that's what the road to hell is paved with.
by that logic, 9/11 was an affair that affected the US so this is a just war. My point is that is that if the US had remained neutral in WWII the japs wouldnt have had to attack us.
And, not everyone in that region hates us only the terrorists. Haven't u heard all the soldiers stories bout how the kids and normal ppl there love them. And bout how the people cheered and waved American flags when we invaded, those doesn't sound like actions of people who hate us
The Japanese were openly preaching world domination and invading and occupying other countries. These countries were not. The point I keep trying to make is that 9/11 occurred as a result of ignoring Washington's warning.
Now, I was all for the Afghan War. I'm still wondering what the hell happened to that, and what the hell happened to that guy, Bin Laden. We went from "dead or alive" to "not truly concerned."
Looking back on it the war was mismanaged. We weren't expecting what we got. However Saddam Hussein did have chemical weapons at some point (there was actually evidence that trace amounts WERE in fact found at one site however it is disputed) and he forced everyone to believe that he hadn;t gotten rid of them by not letting investigators in. And if we did nothing else in this war at least we took Saddam out of power.
Yes, and that would have been a wonderful thing if Saddam Hussein hadn't been the only shred of stability Iraq had.
The ethnic groups of Iraq have been fighting with each other forever and have only ever been unified by force. It was foolish to think they would just unite and accept a government being imposed on them by a nation that invaded and occupied them.
Once again think about you would feel if another country did the same here. Even if the US was ruled by a ruthless dictator I imagine you'd be pretty pissed if someone dropped a bomb on your house and killed your family.
Yeah i'd be pissed, but if the US leaves the insurgents will kill everyone who supported the US or who joined the iraqi police force. Part of our job their is to provide security to those people. And there are a lot who still love the American soldiers there. You can listen to stories of how Americans give the kids food and toys, and give the farmers water and supplies.
I've heard plenty of those stories and seen the videos here on Youtube. It's still outweighed by the mass violence going on there.
If you studied Iraq's history you'd know what a dumb idea this was. The ethnic groups in Iraq have been fighting each other forever and have only ever been unified by force. It was foolsih to think they would just unite and accept a government being imposed on them by invaders.
But only the terrorists are really violent, not the average person. They aren't killing American soldiers, I think you are the one who's judging all by some. And yes they have been fighting for a while, but that doesn't mean they can't live under a democracy, they've seen that a dictatorship doesn't work. It's not being forced on them they're happy to have democracy even CNN admits that
Yes there are some fighters who aren't Al-quaeda. but there are also many iraqi's who dont want the US to leave because they hated Saddam and if We leave, the insurgents will kill them and their families. These are crazy people we're dealing with. And would you really fight against invaders if they had liberated you from an evil dictator and were the only protection you had against people who would kill you?
Sure, I'd be happy if they removed the dictator. Though once he was gone and they were still there five years later I'd think they were overstaying their welcome. I also wouldn't like it if the foreign government took control of our country's natural resources.
"I just don't think it's the role of the United States to walk into a country and say, we do it this way, so should you, but I think one way for us to end up being viewed as the ugly American is for us to go around the world saying, we do it this way, so should you."
-George W. Bush, while running for president in 2000
Yeah but it's not like they don't want democracy. And what you don't realize is that by supporting the overthrow of the dictator, you would be putting yourself in danger from super crazy people. They want to kill all the people who supported the US army.
I have no doubt they want democracy, but like I said, invading a country, taking it over, and imposing a government on the people is not democracy.
Plus, you make it sound so easy. You should study Iraq's history. They have been fighting with each other forever and have only ever been unified by force. They weren't just going to unite and accept a government being imposed on them.
"Treat them with humanity, and let them have no reason to complain of our copying the brutal example of the British army in their treatment of our unfortunate bretheren."
-George Washington, ordering all POW's in the American Revolution to be treated humanely even though the British and Hessian brutally mistreated American POW's
Bush and Cheney should be impeached and tried as war criminals. I cannot believe that my country has become a fascist police state. A vote for Hillary is a vote for a continuation of the Bush/Cheney policies. WAKE UP!
Agreed and while we are at it the senate and congress in particular should go right up there with them on trial for allowing this administration to go unchecked. And shame on the press for not pushing as they should against both parties to end this nightmare.
With all due respect that is a cop-out. Congress controls the spending. The Dems control congress.Unfortunatly the Dems are cowards and dont want to be labled unsupportive of the troops by cutting funds. Or maybe the elite Democrats along with the elite republicans make too much money on this war machine and really dont want the war to end. I fear the latter is true.
at what point did you thought US stood for human rights?
when they treated african-americans/latinos/asians/native-americans as animals?
when the neo-nazi movement became popular in its territory?
when they invented "freedom fries"?
when they built a wall all over the mexican border?
i hate to break it down to you, but if innocent people is in the way of something america wants, they wont hesitate in taking them out of the way by any means neccesary.
wwekidtanman, that's exactly the point. They do it. We don't. That's us what makes them the bad guys and us the good guys. Or at least it was supposed to.
Thompson was one of Nixon's hacks. What'd Nixon thought of yer ol' boy?: "Nixon was disappointed with the selection of Thompson, whom he called 'dumb as hell'".
Oh s—, that kid," Nixon said, when told by H.R. Haldeman, of Thompson's appointment on Feb. 22, 1973.
"Well, we're stuck with him," Haldeman said.
Nixon expressed concern that Thompson was not "very smart."
i am only worried about americans because it's my country
Which is EXACTLY why Amerika's leaders have been able to crush democracies they don't approve of, cause the deaths of millions over the last 6 decades, and continue to cause suffering around the world:
Too many of it's citizens, not all, not even the majority I'd bet, but ENOUGH like you exist that allow and CONDONE such dispicable and illegal and morally bankrupt actions. Ignorance is only bliss for the ignorant, not the rest of us.
SO everything is alright aslong as your not the one targeted? SO its alright people on the otherside of the world are dying as long as its not you? And eye for eye? I dont think the people USA manages to catch are the ones torturing other people. SO if you would use the eye for eye method the 9/11 should be blown to pieces, or killed in various ways, but not tortured.
And the eye for eye thing is very very old law, and if I remeber rigth it also inclueded thingslike, "if a builder builds a house wrong and its collapses on the owners son, then the builders son shall be killed too." In this you would kill an innocent people who had nothing to do with anything. And I think ROOKTABULA is right too.
How do you determine what makes some one a terrorist?
Most countries agree that Bush's definition is way the fuk off.
Our goverenment handed one of our citizens over to your CIA and they flew hime to Syria, (the same one Bush is threatening to attack), and he was tortured for MONTHS and then finally our gov't got him back and it was discovered he was an INNOCENT man. If that was you, would you feel the same way?
I've seen those photos with American Gestapo smiling with their thumbs up. The German Gestapo weren't as perverted, and they had the decency to be GRIM about it.
Torture is a notoriously unreliable method of extracting information. You can get anyone to confess to anything regardless of the truth.
Besides, how did "religious fanatics" get arrested in the first place? I mean, why would a suicide bomber submit to anyone pointing a gun at him?
American Troops/ US Marines/ CIA have murdered 100s of 1,000s of Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Serbs, Lebanese. This controversy about the "Torture" Law confounds me cuz that is what the US has been practising since 1890's. They have built a Prison Planet - overseas prison networks run by US Cohorts. Bush has no morals cuz he is an inhuman despot. Why bother with human rights ?
So why then did the Vietnamese torture McCain. The terrorists aren't covered by the Geneva convention. Why does Jonathan Turley and Keith worry about protecting the rights of terrorists rather than the citizens of this country.
Because when YOU torture others, countries and peoples who may have previously may NOT have dared to torture US troops, NOW has a reason and incentive to.
Who's the "Terrorist"? We're the ones using chemical weapons in Iraq when we went in there saying Iraq had weapons of mass destruction which they didn't, there was no evidence
They're not terrorists. They're innocent people who happen to be of arab apearence. If they were terrorists they'd never so easilly submit to infidels with guns. They'd rather die. Yes, they'd definitely rather die. But ordinary people want to live and will do anything someone with a gun says.
what about khalid sheik mohhamed (the one who confessed to being the mastermind behind 9/11. is he innocent, is he a terrorist? cus it's people like him who should be tortured. We don't torture regular fighter with no intelligence only the high up people with knowledge of upcoming attacks against people like all of you anti-American fuckfaces

i hate you dirt-poor liberals blaming Bush for all your problems.

Rumplestillskull 3 years ago 2
don`t tell me the people of the us didn`t want bush to sit there as a leader when he has been in charge for 8 years. i too think he cheated at the last election, but that was to turn things to his advantage!! 49% still voted for him. so to tell us that your people is not to blame, is infact bullshit

The rest of the world never thought you had any Mr.!
kidtastic78 3 years ago
I don't condone those things. In fact I view them as shameful aspects of US history. That's part of my point. Since the US government has done lots of bad things in the past, they should be doing less now.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
I just have one more question for all of you here. If you were an interrogation officer in the US military and u had in your captivity a high ranking terrorist with knowledge of an attack on innocent civilians anywhere in the world. And you decided to do "the right thing" and not torture him and extract information. And you parents or someone you cared about was killed in that attack, would it really be enough compensation knowing that u took "the moral high ground"?
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Plus, videodude, do you not see the problem there?
If the only two choices are between torturing someone and a terrorist attack than there is clearly a bigger issue at hand.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
yes there is a bigger issue but thats not what we're debating. and that bigger issue can be solved by things like wiretaps and better surveillance which is opposed by the same people who oppose waterboarding
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Fuck All of you people. Fuck MSNBC you god damn people are idiots torture has to be used in order to prevent things like 9/11 and i bet ud rather have people torture than lose your life ina terrorist attack because you were too pussy to get someone to talk and u let mohhamed and his little terrorist buddies sit in guantanmo and be treated "humanely". Do you think american soldiers and journalists who are beheaded in Iraq are treated humanely, what about the people who died in 9/11?
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Hey intellectual giant:
"torture has to be used in order to prevent things like 9/11"
SO are YOU going to tell the soldiers and operatives of your country, and mine when they're confused for Amerikans maybe, how you feel because THEY have been tortured cuz AMerika has decided to ignore the Int'l law adhered to by all CIVILIZED nations that what they went thru was OKAY?
One citizen of my country was tortured and imprisoned by accident by your hunta and is not the only one.
That CREATES enemies!
ROOKTABULA 3 years ago
do u really think that those muslim extremists who hate America always have hated America and always will hate America are going to treat captured Americans more humanely if we stop torturing them. American soldiers have been tortured by them for years before America ever used waterboarding, or before anyone knew we were doing it. i hope America stops obeying the geneva convention which is more concerned with the protection for terrorist who murdered thousands of people than with those people
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
And, stupidvideodude, did it ever dawn on you WHY these people hate America? I am NOT defending them or what they do, but they have motives, and, no, it's not because "they hate us for our freedom". They're pissed off at the US government for meddling and doing things it shouldn't in their countries for the past sixty years.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
stupidvideodude, even if you think it's for the greater good, it still shouldn't be used because torture is unreliable. If a person is in extreme pain they may say anything to make it stop, especially if they don't have the info, but the interrogator thinks he does.
Torture someone long enough and they'll confess to anything.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
yes torture doesnt always work however it does sometimes so it should be kept as an option for the US government and these people hate America for dumb reasons and we have helped them before like when we helped the Afghanis fight the Russians yes they think they have reasons good enough to kill 3000 people but trust me we have better reasons to hate them
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
No, it should never be kept as an option. Wasn't this war supposed to be about helping the Iraqis and improving their lives? What the hell does that say about us if we invade and start using the same tactics the regime from before used? Doesn't that make us the bad guys? Doesn't that make us a bunch of lying hypocrites?
Scotty7617 3 years ago
no it doesnt, it's not as I've said before we're not torturing innocent people or even regular insurgent fighters, only 3 men have been waterboarded, that's it. These are high ranking terrorists with knowledge of things that could help America to prevent attacks. saddam hussein was gassing innocent civilians, it's very different
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Even John McCain admitted that when he was being held as a POW in Vietnam, he confessed to untrue things when he was being tortured.\
The way to prevent future terrorist attacks is to stop invading countries and to stop meddling in the affairs of the Muslim world. That is why they attack us.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
well they attacked us before we invaded iraq and we actually had pretty good relations with many middle eastern nations and yes John McCain was held POW but like i've said many times theres a big difference between capturing a regular ranking soldier like John McCain and a mastermind or a general we dont interrogate the John McCains of the insurgency "army" we do however interrogate the Petraeus's of the insurgency (i know they cant really be compared but i think u guys get the idea)
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Rank doesn't matter. Torture is still unreliable. Even a terrorist leader can falsely confess under torture.
Yes, they attacked us before we invaded Iraq because our government has been doing stupid things in their countries for decades.
How would you feel if another country came here and started telling us what we could and couldn't do?
Scotty7617 3 years ago
we didnt exactly do that we DID help the afghanis and it wasnt military operations nothing VERY and come on thats not the only reason there are verses in the koran that say they should cut the neck of the infidel with a sword and verses that say when after mohammed slaughtered the jews he looked out on the valley and smiled i laugh when islam is called the religion of peace
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
And you think the Bible doesn't say things like that? I guarantee for every violent thing you find in the Quran, you can find one in the Bible.
The religion is just used as a driving force, something to rally them. Their real motive is revenge against the US government for its actions in the Middle East.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
well im not religious so i wouldnt know but im pretty sure that its not as violent all i know is that they worship someone who slaughtered jews and was happy bout it catholism doesnt drive people to blow themselves in crowded places and the us government didnt do anything that bad and even if we did it was under Bush so why do you guys hate Bush so much You said in an earlier post that we've been meddeling in their affairs for 60 years Bush has only been president for 7
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Maybe Christians haven't blown themselves up in the name of their religion, but they have committed just about every other violent act in the name of it. Islam and Christianity are just two sides of the same coin.
It's not just Bush who's been doing it. It's every president back to FDR. The US government has done some bad stuff in the Middle East like putting the Shah into power in Iran in the 50's and supporting him, or backing Saddam Hussein in the 80's or bombing Iraq since 1991.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
i dont think u can compare the two but i do know that in islam women have to wear burkas and have close to no rights. Islamic extremists went crazy and rioted and burned cars when some pretty funny cartoons were printed, do u know how much people make fun of Jesus, catholics.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
You're judging all based on some. The truth is that in most Muslim countries women are not required to wear burqas, and choose to do so. Most muslim countries do give women rights. You're judging them all based on the more extreme places like Afghanistan under the Taliban.
Yeah, they do extreme things over little things like the cartoons, but it didn't get this way over night. It's the result of a build up of hatred against the US government's actions.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
also if wut u said is true then why do u blame Bush? Plus not supporting the shah would have been disastrous. Had we supported the islamic revolution it would have been the same as support for the same terrorists who held hostages in an embassy, remember that? and wut else were we to do but back saddam we didnt know he would gas kurds and kill innocent people. thats like blaming the germans cus they voted Hitler in, they didnt know he was gonna kill millions of jews
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Tell that to the Iranians. You try to explain to them it was a good thing the CIA overthrew thier democratic government and put the Shah, a ruthless dictator into power, simply for access to Iran's oil. how would you feel if another country did that here. I imagine you'd be pretty pissed.
Plus, it was supporting the Shah that led to an even worse government taking power.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Plus, the US harbored the Shah after he was overthrown instead of turning him over to the Iranians to face trial for his crimes.
Think about how the families of the ones killed on 9/11 felt after the Taliban refused to turn over Osama Bin Laden. It's very much the same. After both, people were screaming for blood.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Are you insane? You think backing Saddam was a ghood thing? "What other choice did we have?"
There was another choice, how about NOT supporting and giving chemical weapons to the ruthless dictator? Our government knew damn well he had been killing people, since he'd been doing it for a decade before the Iraq-Iran War.
Plus, if Iran was so evil, why on earth did our government sell weapons to them as well? Play both sides and you're going to make a lot of people angry.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
the iran-iraq war was very different, Iran was the agressor the Iraqi's were right in that war. And really saddam (or another Baathist party memeber) was the only one who could have brought peace to that region. We just didn't know he would gas his own countrymen, u cant blame the govt for that. And we didnt give the iranis weapons and we didnt give Saddam chemical weapons we gave him weapons when we put him in power and we gave the taliban weapons to fight the russians
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Iraq invaded Iran. Saddam Hussein's goal in that war was to take over Iran, so he could rule, and you're claiming that was right?
Didn't know he would gas his own countrymen? What else do you think a ruthless dictator was going to do with chemical weapons? That's like leaving a pedohile alone with a bunch of kids and then saying "Well, how were we supposed to know?"
Can't blame the government? Saddam WAS the government. His word was law.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Plus, tell that to the Iraqis Saddam gassed or their families. Tell them, "We really didn't think he was going to do it."
I think giving Saddam weapons made both a lot of Iraqis and Iranians very angry with the US.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
so by ur own logic, weren't we right to overthrow Saddam. And like i said before wut ur doin is like blaming the Jews who voted for Hitler before they knew he was going to kill them. Saddam was good at first and turned bad, that and the fact that there is alqeda in Iraq were why we went in there. And he wasnt a ruthless dictator before we put him in power thats just false info. yes iraq invaded but only cus iran kept going over there borders and were the real agressors of the war
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
What gives the US the right to go around telling other countries how to do things?
Don't even try to compare Saddam to Hitler. Hitler was openly preaching world domination. Plus. he took over several countries, most major countries in a matter of months.
Saddam couldn't even take over one country in eight years, even with backing from the US government.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
he didn't tell the people who voted him into office that he was planning on taking over the world, he lied like Saddam lied, thats the only comparison that I'm making. Yes hitler was obviously much worse but they both lied to people and then, once in office, became dictators and killed people.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Actually, Hitler was preaching to Germany that they were the master race destined to rule the world long before he was voted into office.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
well kinda but no one had any idea he was gonna kill millions of jews
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
He was also preaching anto-semitism and death to the Jews long before he was voted into office. Hell, he wrote a book about it.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
and what do u mean What gives the US the right to tell people what to do. Should we completely stop taking sides in wars? should we stop supporting our ally, the Israelis, cus we dont have right to tell the muslims to stop killing innocent Jews. Should the US go back to our 1900's policy of isolation? is that what u really want?
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
"Should the US go back to our 1900's policy of isolation?"
YES, YES, YES, That would be wonderful. Because had we stuck to that policy we wouldn't have people ramming airplanes into our buildings or blowing up our embassies or our ships.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
ok you're right, let's stop intervening in all foreign affairs lose our allies, and get out of NATO. A policy of isolation would force us out of NATO. And we'd lose alot of our allies. Also it would horrible economically, we'd lose alot of trade. I know it sounds good, but isolation would be horrible in today's world. We are a world superpower, we can't just sit in our own little corner.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
I didn't mean complete isolation. I just meant non-interventionism. The US was still trading with countries during its isolation period.
If my word's not enough than how about the word of George Washington?
I suggest you read his farewell address. He warned America about the dangers of foreign entaglements and meddling in the affairs of other countries.
Even back then he knew what could happen. For ignoring it we now have jihadists blowing our stuff up and preaching death to us.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
we did trade, but it was limited. Do you suugest we stop doing that?
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Ah, yes, the classic lines. "It was a different place. It was a different time."
That doesn't change a thing. His warning still held true even as the US changed , and the consequences stayed the same for ignoring it.
Why they hate us goes a lot farther than just backing Israel. That's just one reason.]
The US was never meant to be this way, not an empire, and certianly not the world's police. Our nation wanted independance FROM an empire and now we are one.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"- Edmund Burke The US can not just remain in our own little corner. And no the time doesn't change a thing, but the US's power and place in the world changes a lot. But u know what when we do become isolationist again, the first thing that we should do is to withdraw from the UN and stop signing the Geneva convention. I'm sure that's what u want.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
And yes maybe an isolationist policy would solve a few problems. But what would have happened if the US had a non interventionist or isolationist policy in WWII (yes i know we were attacked by the japs first, but they wouldn't have attacked us if we had stayed completely neutral and not supported Britain.) Europe would have fallen and the world would be in disarray. I'm not trying to compare the Iraq war and WWII but im just talking bout the danger of a non-interventionist policy
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Let em clarify/ Wahsington said not to meddlie in other countries' affairs unless they affected the US. WWII was an affair that affected the US.
It is because the US began meddling that these people became angry at us. Maybe the US had some good intentions, but like the saying goes, that's what the road to hell is paved with.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
by that logic, 9/11 was an affair that affected the US so this is a just war. My point is that is that if the US had remained neutral in WWII the japs wouldnt have had to attack us.
And, not everyone in that region hates us only the terrorists. Haven't u heard all the soldiers stories bout how the kids and normal ppl there love them. And bout how the people cheered and waved American flags when we invaded, those doesn't sound like actions of people who hate us
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
The Japanese were openly preaching world domination and invading and occupying other countries. These countries were not. The point I keep trying to make is that 9/11 occurred as a result of ignoring Washington's warning.
Now, I was all for the Afghan War. I'm still wondering what the hell happened to that, and what the hell happened to that guy, Bin Laden. We went from "dead or alive" to "not truly concerned."
Osama Bin Forgotten.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
I do agree with you that we should have alot more forces in Afghanistan. however we need our forces in Iraq too
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
WHY?! Iraq was NOT a threat to America. Oh, it's certainly a threat now. All this war did was turn Iraq into a huge recruiting office for Al-Qaeda.
Yeah, Bush needs our forces there. To secure all of the precious black gold buried there.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Looking back on it the war was mismanaged. We weren't expecting what we got. However Saddam Hussein did have chemical weapons at some point (there was actually evidence that trace amounts WERE in fact found at one site however it is disputed) and he forced everyone to believe that he hadn;t gotten rid of them by not letting investigators in. And if we did nothing else in this war at least we took Saddam out of power.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Yes, and that would have been a wonderful thing if Saddam Hussein hadn't been the only shred of stability Iraq had.
The ethnic groups of Iraq have been fighting with each other forever and have only ever been unified by force. It was foolish to think they would just unite and accept a government being imposed on them by a nation that invaded and occupied them.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Talk to me about the people loving them once US trooops are no longer being shot and blown up by roadside bombs.
Well, of course they were happy at first. Who wouldn't be? But afterwards the people begin wondering "Okay, when are you going to leave."
Also, it was only the Iraqis who didn't have family killed and homes destroyed in the invasion who were cheering and waving flags.
Nobody likes being occupied. Overstay your welcome and the people will get a little irritated.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Once again think about you would feel if another country did the same here. Even if the US was ruled by a ruthless dictator I imagine you'd be pretty pissed if someone dropped a bomb on your house and killed your family.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Yeah i'd be pissed, but if the US leaves the insurgents will kill everyone who supported the US or who joined the iraqi police force. Part of our job their is to provide security to those people. And there are a lot who still love the American soldiers there. You can listen to stories of how Americans give the kids food and toys, and give the farmers water and supplies.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
I've heard plenty of those stories and seen the videos here on Youtube. It's still outweighed by the mass violence going on there.
If you studied Iraq's history you'd know what a dumb idea this was. The ethnic groups in Iraq have been fighting each other forever and have only ever been unified by force. It was foolsih to think they would just unite and accept a government being imposed on them by invaders.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
But only the terrorists are really violent, not the average person. They aren't killing American soldiers, I think you are the one who's judging all by some. And yes they have been fighting for a while, but that doesn't mean they can't live under a democracy, they've seen that a dictatorship doesn't work. It's not being forced on them they're happy to have democracy even CNN admits that
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
So you think every Iraqi who fights against US troops is a member of Al-Qaeda?
Many of the resisters are simply ordinary Iraqis who just want the US out. Like I said before, no one likes being occupied.
If the US was invaded and occupied I'd sure as hell be fighting against the invaders.
Invading a country, taking it over, and imposing a government on the people is in exact defiance of the principles of a free country.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Yes there are some fighters who aren't Al-quaeda. but there are also many iraqi's who dont want the US to leave because they hated Saddam and if We leave, the insurgents will kill them and their families. These are crazy people we're dealing with. And would you really fight against invaders if they had liberated you from an evil dictator and were the only protection you had against people who would kill you?
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
Sure, I'd be happy if they removed the dictator. Though once he was gone and they were still there five years later I'd think they were overstaying their welcome. I also wouldn't like it if the foreign government took control of our country's natural resources.
No one like being occupied.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
"I just don't think it's the role of the United States to walk into a country and say, we do it this way, so should you, but I think one way for us to end up being viewed as the ugly American is for us to go around the world saying, we do it this way, so should you."
-George W. Bush, while running for president in 2000
Scotty7617 3 years ago 2
Yeah but it's not like they don't want democracy. And what you don't realize is that by supporting the overthrow of the dictator, you would be putting yourself in danger from super crazy people. They want to kill all the people who supported the US army.
stupidvideodude 3 years ago
I have no doubt they want democracy, but like I said, invading a country, taking it over, and imposing a government on the people is not democracy.
Plus, you make it sound so easy. You should study Iraq's history. They have been fighting with each other forever and have only ever been unified by force. They weren't just going to unite and accept a government being imposed on them.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
The UN is actually a great idea. It would be even better if the US actually worked with them instead of trying to control them.
I'm all for the Geneva convention. It'd be nice if our president was too.
Scotty7617 3 years ago
Plus, torture is also bad because
1. It increase the chance our troops will be tortured if captured.
2. It reduces the chance enemy forces will surrender, out of fear of being tortured, which will get more of our troops killed.

"Not extremely so," Buzhardt agreed.
"But he's friendly," Nixon said.
Sounds like the dream Right Wing Leader

i am only worried about americans because it's my country

Bluetail19 4 years ago
And the eye for eye thing is very very old law, and if I remeber rigth it also inclueded thingslike, "if a builder builds a house wrong and its collapses on the owners son, then the builders son shall be killed too." In this you would kill an innocent people who had nothing to do with anything. And I think ROOKTABULA is right too.
Bluetail19 4 years ago
So you say you should act like they do? Thats very childish it would make the same as them. Instead you shoud rise above such barberian behavor.
Bluetail19 4 years ago
Great.

Al Queda was born in the 1950's when a bunch of Eygyptian revolutionaries were jailed and tortured
in Eygypt. This brought individual cells together and
created a huge revenge motive for the 20 or so involved.
Read The Looming Tower for more on what created Al Queda.

Why bother with human rights ?
montejerome 5 years ago
You're right, it's all semantics BUT the US NEVER put it on paper and made it public law...that's where shit starts getting scarier
ROOKTABULA 5 years ago
So why then did the Vietnamese torture McCain. The terrorists aren't covered by the Geneva convention. Why does Jonathan Turley and Keith worry about protecting the rights of terrorists rather than the citizens of this country.
arttow 5 years ago
Because when YOU torture others, countries and peoples who may have previously may NOT have dared to torture US troops, NOW has a reason and incentive to.
Other's paying for Bush's stupidity...AGAIN

Bush has been torturing prisoners in Texas back in the day when he was the governor, and they have those videos

Didn't they call hime the "Texecutioner" back when he was Guvnor?
The comments he joked off about maybe killing a few innocents made me puke. He's going straight to hell...

Who's the "Terrorist"? We're the ones using chemical weapons in Iraq when we went in there saying Iraq had weapons of mass destruction which they didn't, there was no evidence
SlayerPlayer7 5 years ago
They're not terrorists. They're innocent people who happen to be of arab apearence. If they were terrorists they'd never so easilly submit to infidels with guns. They'd rather die. Yes, they'd definitely rather die. But ordinary people want to live and will do anything someone with a gun says.
dechha1981 4 years ago
what about khalid sheik mohhamed (the one who confessed to being the mastermind behind 9/11. is he innocent, is he a terrorist? cus it's people like him who should be tortured. We don't torture regular fighter with no intelligence only the high up people with knowledge of upcoming attacks against people like all of you anti-American fuckfaces
