  • Hi Mr.Occam, I like your Analogy, very well thought out... We as humans are microbial organism's on the scale of our Galaxy, maybe even smaller yet, and on the Scale of our universe im not shure if we are even perceptible....i guess the average believers Ego is at the center of all things, they really need to humble them selves.. And where exactly are these other gods??

  • It's almost scary how much we think a like.

  • You got good lighting =). But I dont have any spotlights so my video quality isn't as good.

  • @TheAlaricPetz Thanks - though personally I thought the light was overblown. It's not a spotlight, it's a sunset. :)

  • well most christians think that god is the one and only god... but that the devil... tricks people into worshiping false gods, that they say are actually devil's minions... or something like that. Although I don't get why would the devil go through all that trouble just to make people not believe in god, instead of just relaxing down in hell like I would do. What .. is he trying to earn extra points? What is this? Super Mario Bros?

  • Great logic (5 *'s).

But I fear, that the implications of it are simply ignored (by purpose or not) by most believers.

Doubt of being on the right side would be the first step towards enlightment. And that doubt is what is the first to be eliminated when kids are indoctrinated in sunday services.

Maybe we should get more organized, rent rooms and start to provide weekly public scepticism services, instead of doing philosophical dinners...

  • Well according to Christians, Muslims. There is only one god and we all should worship him. So if god is so self confident why should he even care to mention other gods? Don't make no sense. In conclusion if there is a god out there. He is very well beyond being Paranoid. He is a psychopath! God is a man made saga.

Occ, thank you for a great video.

  • Thanks!

My big question has always been - why does God need people to kiss his ass? He created us to worship him?

What kind of a massive egomaniac is this "God"?

You'd think that if he was powerful enough to create the universe in a single sentence ("And all the stars in the sky"), he would be a bit beyond having his ego stroked.

  • OccamKant, so you're a skeptic eh? I have been there until I humbled myself and just believed and let God in my life. You should get on your knees and pray and accept Jesus Christ as your lord savior and ask him to be in your life and forgive you for your sins from your heart and I guarantee you things will change.

Believe me man, God is real. You only have about 30 years of life left. What do you have to lose? Just know Jesus loves you and died your for your sins but all you have to do is ask

  • You used to be a skeptic, eh?

Now tell me why someone who makes their decisions based on logic and evidence would pray to someone else's invisible friend? That doesn't sound very skeptical to me.

Yes, I have 30, maybe 40 years left. That's about half my life. You're telling me I should waste half my precious life praying to an imaginary being?

  • Very well observed!

In the first scenario, monotheism falls, because there would be other gods. In the second scenario, you are accused of thought crime and monotheism is a totalitarianism. The distinction to a totalitarian regime on earth is, that the leader is not even around, but the clergy presume what your thought crime is, and they have the power.

  • so excellent video, occamkant

yeah christians will claim that god will still love humans despite that he will torture unbelievers to hell, how is that love?

  • excellent video .. 6 stars ( you cant see the 6th one .. it's invisible ... but it IS there, i can assure you)

  • :D Thanks. :)

  • LOL

You really have issues with GOD

    I will pray for you

  • Biblical scripture defines "gods" as things in which you ascribe value; money, accesories, power, etc.; not "Gods".

I used to be a devout catholic.

  • ascribe value over God*

  • That's an interesting idea - but are you sure it's backed up by biblical scripture and not just catholic dogma?

If it's scriptural, can you give me the relevant verses?

  • Leviticus 19:4, 1 Kings 14:9, 1 Chronicles 16:26 and Psalm 96:5 are a few examples ("gods" and "idols" are basically synonymous judging off of these, but I guess it could mean other actual deities [it's really hard to tell because we weren't there and the transcribed language is broken]).

  • Well, that's the problem with the bible, isn't it? It's written poetically, which means that you can never tell what parts are to be interpreted and which are to be taken literally.

  • As others seem to have pointed out, the answer to this is actually very simple. The original Jewish religion was not monotheistic, it was heliotheistic. In other words, there is an acknowledgment of the existence of a pantheon with one member of that pantheon, El, specifically being the god of the Hebrews. This is obvious to modern scholarship, the only reason it's not the widespread understanding is because it is a blow to modern Christian and Jewish theology.

  • There other gods, and they're out to steal your girlfriend.... In all seriousness though. That is a problem which most christians want to ignore. Another verse that points to other gods is during the tower of babel thing - "let US go down and confound their language..." I forget the verse. But that is how it is written in the KJV bible. There are quite a few verses which point to multiple gods. Remember as we all learned from Ghostbusters. If someone asks if you're a god, always say "yes".

  • Hi

    Been away for a while.

    How are you?

  • I actually have a simmilar thought about the god character, rather than being a jealous boyfriend, i think og him as an obnoxious student in a classroom telling the teacher that although there are other students in the classroom, only pay attention to me. don't even aknowledge the other students present.

  • AFAIK, YHWH started out as one god amongst many and only later morphed into the only god. Hence the ambiguity of the OT.

At the same time, if I were a Christian, I'd say that your analogy is faulty, because for it to be more accurate, the girlfriend wouldn't be able to interact with her boyfriend.

Let's say that all she has on her boat is a love letter, signed by Frank. So there couldn't be any physical relationship anyway. Any relationship could only take place inside her head. But since...

  • ...this relationship is now imaginary to begin with (at least as long as the girlfriend is on the boat, i.e. alive) Frank could be jealous if his girlfriend fantasizes about John instead of him, whether John really exists or not. After all, fantasizing is as good as it gets in this kind of relationship, so all that matters is whether John exists in Frank's girlfriend's mind or not.

  • You're right - the girlfriend actually seeing and interacting with the boyfriend is not the scene we have today.

But I was thinking more of what was happening when the bible was written, and in the bible God supposedly interacted with people directly many times. Every direct interaction was a terrible one, of course. Whenever God showed up, people were gonna die.

  • Of course, during the transition from polytheism to monotheism, there were other "gods" around. So, this would mean that the inventors of YHWH were concerned about "ex-boyfriends".

  • Four Gods sit on the windowsill. Where once eight Gods did war and will. And if the Gods themselves may die. What does that say of you and I?

  • If HE created all things didnt he create either all the other gods or none?

And didnt he create man as we are?

  • The funny thing is - if you read the OT, God acts very much like a tribal leader. His chosen people, he supports them in combat against other tribes.

Would the all-powerful creator of the universe really need to resort to physical violence? If he can create all the stars in the sky, he could poof other tribes out of existence, or not create them in the first place.

All the bloodshed only makes sense if the God of the jews is NOT all powerful.

  • Exactly. It seems obvious that man created god in their image and the ones inventing the are all psychopahtic paranoid bad leaders.

  • Or maybe the other gods created him? ;)

  • Well on a video of mine where I am Odin, I tell about how Yahweh got to be ;-)

Check my latest Odin video for a laugh:

    /watch?v=EKg4itaGk8A

Turn down the speakers for the intro and outro LOL

  • Hail Odin! \,,/ :D

  • hehehe \m/

  • Christians don't think it through. They go to the good ole contingency plan called 'faith' when it makes no sense.

  • Actually, I think God is just passive/aggressive. :P

    5*

  • Men wrote the book and thought up this god. Then they wrote in the book that people shouldn't think up other gods, but only believe their thought up god. That's the most plausible explanation to me.

  • He's paranoid/jealous to the point of stupidity.

    They expect that of him.
