I'm not sure if your familiar with IL-2 Sturmovik, but I often do the same mistake there. I'm getting better though, practice makes perfect and all... :-) Paradoxically, a far bigger problem for me is not tipping over more lightly built fighter planes while braking on the runway. :-)
@oktal3700 Not quite, an aircraft always stalls at an exact value for AoA. So if a wing stalls at 15 degrees, no matter how fast or slow it's going, if the AoA is over 15 it will stall. Speed though is tied to AoA in most circumstances. For example, if I wanna fly at 40 knots in a cessna 152, I can't have an AoA of 1, it'll probably be more around 10. Increase speed and my AoA will go down. But because stall speeds change under different loadings, people say speed isn't to be relied on.

To accomplish a "greaser", runway length alloting, keep a power on approach, instead of a descent and flare, make it look more like a controlled descent, and keep the airplane at a nose up attitude while over the runway, reduce power, and let the aircraft fly itself on to the runway, the stall should occur with the main gear just inches from the runway, and on touchdown, hold the nose up as long as possible, until elevator control becomes inneffective and the nose flies itself to the pavement.
The first landing works great if you are set at approach speed and can make the airport. The second approach not accurate because you need power all the way to the airport. A student learns nothing from this type of approach

Actually the correct angle of approach is when you see two red lights and two white lights beside the runway. This is what I was taught during an aviation programme in my school.
It's best to go around and try again if you're not able to make a good approach, however it would have been better NOT to dive the aircraft to try to loose altitude... not only did you end up outside of the white arc (operating limits for full flaps) but you also just force yourself to float more as you carry that speed. I've found you're much better off to pull the throttle back to idle and let the aircraft sink at 65kts and full flaps, or a forward slip.
hmmm, the first way I land sometimes in FSX if I don't want the fly a whole end back to make a good approach after flying for an hour :P but I won't descent that fast...

There is nothing wrong with a high approach if you know what you are doing. You're problem was that you were carrying power. If you want to execute a good landing at such an altitude come in at idle with an occasional slip with right rudder and left aileron. The slip will help you both create drag to reduce airspeed and a loss of lift and/or altitude.

@hsguitarist you can descend at over 4000fpm using airbrakes, full flaps, and throttle idle. Within 25000 feet, you will gain maybe 10 knots

When you're VFR keep a good eye on the VASI lights, those will really help your altitude so you know you're on the glideslope.
White over White: Lose some height
Red over White: You're alright
Red over Red: You're dead
