What the hell are you talking about? your talking like WoW is the first of the franchise. Warcraft: Orcs and Humans came in 1994 and was inspired by Lord of the Rings and Warhammer. However, the sequels pretty much went their own way in story and characters (except for some name jokes to Lord of the Rings).

The gameplay in WoW is actually based on the Diablo gameplay... pretty much every aspect is taken and perfected (like the real time combat, Talent points and other stuff).

WoW's early beta forms were extremely similar to Diablo, and slowly moved a bit farther away, while retaining much nonetheless. People actually QQed about WoW being Diablo 2.5.

Diablo has influenced a LOT since its release. If only the atmosphere of the first game could be carried over more often though... :(
