Ahhh so stupid, I grew up in the Bay and there's like 5 rivers that drain into it and the tides and currents are deadly. If you're not a wise old local fisherman, going in the sea is practically suicide!
Apparently the tide comes in 'as fast as a horse can gallop'- that always freaked me out and kept me well away from the water!
You state above that the swim was in December, and the idiot goes for a swim at four in the morning, I am very sceptical.
A sharp eyed look at the sky suggests it's the crack of dawn, with sunrise around 45 minutes later on a normal typical morning in the UK when taking a closer look, though in summer it can be longer.
On that basis I believe the video was filmed sometime between early May and Mid-August, not December as stated, as a totally pitch black sky would be visible at 4am.

Many people have gone for swim after a night out, some of them even survived.Even in summer that water is cold , But in december , freezing.
