  • Hey everybody-- You can see a picture of REAL cat people here:

    unchartedrevelations.blogspot.com/2012/01/cat-people-captured.html

    Is that freaky or what?

  • @joshlattimer111 What's that I smell cooking? Wait, I think it's SPAM.

  • when I was twelve, I made a drawing of this picuture of boxing Bowie's ... I even translated the lyrics of the whole album (I'm Italian, I was just 'an absolute beginner' in learning English at that time!), and, finally, I presented a short dissertation about Bowie for the final exam of my junior high school. I got the highest mark, lol :-) !!

  • @allodolina That's awesome. Allow me to say, your English is very good now. :)

  • It's been a long time since I haven't heard this song.... chilling !!!!!!! I love it !

  • I feel that the singer/sonwriter David Bowie was reacting against the objectionable objectionalism that he felt was controlling his life

  • The ad "have you ever jerked off onto your own excrements?- yes" In the end I feel this is a good song

  • @BugsKingsnakeBunny (lolwut)

  • You know the intro is playful, like a cat prancing about. It has been a long time since I listened to this song . I bought the tape when new, and it sound's as good as new. And finding out Stevie Ray was bending the strings is a major bonus.

  • @wikkid61 I get menacing out of it more so that playful, different people, different perceptions.

  • This IS thee version that rock's you.

  • @wikkid61 Indeed it is..

  • I love the juxapositioning of notes SRV uses at the intro in this song.

  • @Kangsryche You and me both, it was inspired.

  • @karlmoles65 Great to know we are one in the same. SRV lives through us.

  • Stevie Ray, what a treasure.

  • My favourite Bowie track so I had a crack at it myself

  • @GothzillaMusic Thanks for the video response. It's my favorite track from him as well. Love your cover.

  • Inglorious basterds

  • i came here because i'm watching inglorious bastards!

Like if you did the same!

  • I prefer the sound off the underworld evolution cd but i would prefer bowie to sing it

  • This version is by far the best! Fel in love with it when I discovered it on the flip side to Lets Dance 12"..great stuff with added bonus of Stevie Ray Vaughn! :-) Thanks for posting !

  • Great always loved this version, Bowie brilliant, and the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan played guitar

  • @Corum001 Me too. Thanks.

  • I like this version a LOT more.

  • @CylonDorado You and me both.

  • perfect.

  • More than 300K views and it's not even a proper video in the sense that you only see posters. Only the master can do that :-).

  • @thehope1999 I am more than pleased by the outpouring of response this video has recieved.

  • seems like the only one on here that is original, yay.. only thing that would make this a better post would be with lyrics, but kudos none the less

  • @arynengle this is the re-recorded vesion

  • @arynengle Thank You.

  • Check out Tina Turners version on u tube it is verry good

  • @lairmatube Oh yeah, no doubt

  • :/ The original recording remains much stronger than this, "more accessible," version for Let's Dance. I have the same opinion about his re-recording of China Girl, as the original version recorded for Iggy Pop's The Idiot (which Bowie produced) was much rawer and left a larger impact on my music taste than the neutering accomplished through Let's Dance. Personally, his last great album was Scary Monsters.

  • @TheCorazyCam More accessible does not equal stronger, in any sense of the owrd. Justin Bieber is "more accessible" Glee is "more accessible". Lady Gaga is "more accessible" This just flat rocks. And the only thing neutered was Girogio Moroder's soulless Disco-Synth original. I think you have it backwards friend. But to each their own.

  • @karlmoles65 You misinterpreted my comment. "The original recording remains much stronger than this, 'more accessible,' version for Let's Dance." As in the original version was stronger than the Let's Dance version, while the Let's Dance version can be seen as more accessible than the original recording. My personal favourite Bowie song is "Heroes," one of his most experimental songs to date. Accessibility and strength, as we agree, are very different qualities for a song.

  • @TheCorazyCam Alright, fair enough. Sorry if I seemed harsh. I'm also a fan of Heroes, fantastic song there.

  • @karlmoles65 It's not a problem. The entire Heroes album is probably my favourite Bowie album. :D Brian Eno is quite the creative producer. By the way, I thought Cat People was a David Bowie original that he wrote for the film of the same name. Girogio Moroder? Who might he be?

  • @TheCorazyCam Giorgio Moroder was a musician and producer, very influential in Disco and New Wave. He's the man behind the music for the original version of this. He became well know for his soundtracks, for Cat People, Midnight Express, and American Gigolo. He worked with Bowie, Blondie, Donna Summer, and many others. I actually like a lot of his music, and even the other version of this, just not as well.

  • @TheCorazyCam If you want to hear Moroder's best work (Imo). Look up the song "Chase"

  • The movie freaked me out but, Bowie...hmmmmm, he can freak me anytime!

  • If it had been the first version i've heard, I would have never click it again.

  • @122144 And aren't you glad your in the poor taste minority too!

  • That's funny....Bowie considers "Lets Dance" to be his "fallout" album. He needed the money.

  • people are calling this hard rock? are they on crack? Stevie ray Vaughn on guitar blues/rock guitar. go back to your lady gaga, usher crap.p.s. there both great versions.

  • Hard to believe this is almost 30 Years young!

  • Bowie RRRRocks

  • this is too hard rock (if thats what you call it) for david. its interesting. idk if i like it.

  • @jemappelledrwholuvr It's fairly heavy, but can't agree it's too heavy for Bowie. He experimented with almost every style of Rock in his career. and that's his genius. Bowie can take any style and make it his own.

  • I have this album on vinyl and this is the version that's on the album. what's the original version if this isn't it?

  • @OriginalThannix ohh wikipedia answered my question.. this version is better!

  • @OriginalThannix Yes. This is the original version. Great album!!

  • david n'' steve ray vaughn rocks men

  • Much better version with Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • I like both versions but I prefer this one

  • This is why Michael Jackson seeked for EVH for beat it...

  • @rettersp

Thriller was released prior to Let's Dance.

  • The original version is sooooo much better!!! I don't like this version...for me it's antoher reason why "Let's Dance" is an awfull album!

  • @MrEggman1980 Some folks like it soulless, it happens.

  • @MrEggman1980 Let's Dance is BY FAR Bowie's best album. I'll stack it up against someone calling himself a "Ziggy Stardust" anytime. Or maybe you think a spider from Mars can play guitar better than Stevie Ray Vaughn

  • This version is much more powerful especially because of the guitar in the beginning :)

  • @mpgjacobs EXACTLY!

  • Stevie was the Man!

  • I prefer this version over the other one!

  • @DamStanky Same here.

  • C'est excellent et indémodable.je suis fan!

  • i prefer the "Cat People" version, but this one has its own merits.... both are great 'cuz Bowie is singing! ;)

  • @TakeMeBackTo1986 This version much better! SRV on guitar!

  • yeh-uv got it boy-its MY opinion-dont wet urself

  • @TheYellowellies *yourself* And who is?

  • @karlmoles65 -ok-im sorry for being vulgar guys

  • @TheYellowellies Alright

  • bowies best

  • @TheYellowellies I think there are also some other best things by Bowie, very many in my opinion ... ;-)

  • I have goose bumps on the back of my neck.

    Totally Awesome.

  • @thetopman007 It has that effect on me quite often

  • china girl

  • I had forgotten how much I liked David Bowie, till my son was watching some cartoon that had the Bowie and Jagger Dancin in the Street video, which prompted me to go online and watch Bowie videos :-) I like this version!

  • @Frontier800 My ears say Tony Thompson, but without digging out the album to look at the liner notes I can't be sure.

  • @karlmoles65 According to Wikipedia, both Tony Thompson and Omar Hakim played on the album.

  • @mattym1961 Yup, but the Drums on this track sound a lot more like Tony.

  • @karlmoles65 Yes it might be,I don't have a copy of the album/cd to check.Either way it's a superb song.

  • @mattym1961 I have a vinyl, I might dig it out sometime

  • best version...an yup that's Stevie Ray on guitar ;)

  • @Lisa0970 Stevie Ray Vaughan killed it on this album!

  • My personal favourite track on the Let's Dance album - wasn't this a b-side to something? Ah, the days when we had "b-sides"!!! LOL

  • @LordHeath1972 I heard that.

  • @LordHeath1972 If the uploader does not want to say where it comes from I think I had this track just as is here on a 12" maxi single circa 1982 in Aspen, much more range available someone should do it again and post it.

  • @LordHeath1972 Yes, this was the B side of the Let's Dance single.

  • @LordHeath1972 b-side of Let's Dance - vinyl single

  • Thanks!! This is the version I like best.

  • @JeniDiver You're welcome! And thanks for the comment

  • @sprig5live Correct

  • I love Stevie Ray but I like the original as well. it suited the mood of the movie

  • where is this version??

  • @eahazell It's on "Let's Dance"

  • Ooo yeah This is the original version!I have that LP !Stevie plays guitar all songs in that album !!

  • Tell me Bowie doesn't have range (musically and vocally), the guy performed with Bing Crosby and SRV!

  • Wow i didnt know stevie ray played guitar on this , i saw him live at the Apollo about 2yr before he died ... awesome ...... thnx for the info

  • @edzashed100 You're very welcome

  • what do you mean not the original version??? this is what I remember being the original! the only version that mattered to me anyway! Stevie Ray made the song with his style!

  • @rfumanji yes, the original version is slower and so different! you've probably heard it in Inglorious Bastards <3 the original one was made for "Cat people", the movie, and it exists in two versions: the one used in the film is a bit longer (one more stanza) though the original version is the one in Let's Dance album, this one is quite difficult to find

BTW thanks for posting thiiiis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bowie is my favourite singer

  • Way better than the Moroder version. I thought this fit on the album better too

  • @LivinWorstNightmare Agreed all around!

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan great solo!

  • @lusacf Isn't it though!

  • More love for Tony Thompson. He was was heavy, and funky and he just freakin' rocks my world every time I hear his playing. Miss him.

  • @hawksapoozle One of my all time favorite Drummers. Ever heard his work with The Power Station? DAMNNNNNN

  • There is nothing I love better than fingering cats.

  • @asmodeus272 lmfao

  • I love both versions, but I do like how this song "gets to the meat" of the musical sandwich quicker than the original...

  • not better than the original.

  • Thanks again for the response! OK...Power Station...I vaguely remember a band by that name. Perhaps it was in the 80's, they had a couple of hits? As I remember....that drummer was kind of like a main force in that band...he was really "heavy"...especially heavy-footed? Seems like they were around for awhile then just disappeared. Although here in southern Arizona....we ain't exactly in the mainstream of "hip" anything....music included. Which really is ok with me. Joel

  • @naderchaser Heavy and Heavy Footed, that's him to a tee,. I adore that sound. Same with me in Kentucky, lol.

  • Who else was on this song? Drums? Bass? etc.

This is one badass tune. Never seemed to do that well commercially...but I loved it. Why am I not surprised?? Thanks...Joel in Tucson

  • @naderchaser

    Carmine Rojas – bass guitar

Omar Hakim and Tony Thompson – drums Nile Rodgers – guitar

Stevie Ray Vaughan – lead guitar

  • @karlmoles65 Karl....whoa!! That...was a fast reply. Thanks!

Certainly I've heard of Omar Hakim....and I should know who Tony Thompson has been with...but I don't. What's his drumming heritage? Thanks again...Joel in Tucson

  • @naderchaser Hi Joel! Tony Thompson is one of my favorite Drummers of all time,. He was first in the band Chic with Nile Rodgers, then he was in The Power Station with The Taylor brothers (from Duran Duran) and Robert Palmer.

  • Gotta give it to Bowie: best move he made while recording this album was getting Stevie Ray Vaughn to play guitar all over it! between that & Nile Rogers producing, this album had some wings & this song alone proves it! I had the 45 of "Let's Dance"in '83 and this was the B-side, wore the damn thing out just listening to SRV over & over!

  • @altaego1970 That's how I got started on this song, the 45, Great comment, thanks!

  • Yea, this version is great. I'll always remember the live at philly album circa '73-4. I think that album has to included with any top 10-100 countdown, but I never see anything about it. I also think Bowie was and is one of the top vocalist of our time.

  • This was the best cut off the Let's dance album, by far. And that was one hell of an album. Thanks for sharing, haven't heard this song since my record player broke!

  • @loon2u4fun You are very welcome!

  • @loon2u4fun A "record player", Karl?? Man....I haven't heard that phrase in a long, long time. lol. But dig it, I'm 56 tonite...and STILL have the old 45 player that my late folks had when I was about 3 or 4. The player itself is probably only 14 inches by 14 inches wide. Maybe a foot tall. Only made for 45's...nothing else. It has this long, gold colored button that you push when you wish to re-cue the record. Only, it shocks the life outta you when you push it. I'll get it fixed someday.

  • Both versions are great! Bowie is god!

  • What's this? A whole page of comments about a cover song with no one having a fight over which version sucks and who's a gay for thinking otherwise? Go for it Bowie, thanks for attracting a more mature set of listeners!

  • @HuDaFuK Amen! I agree wholeheartedly. Not only am I proud and honored by the 200+K views. I am also grateful for the huge amounts of positive comments and lack of immaturity!

    Thank You All!!!!!

  • like both versions... one a more subdued bowie and the other bowie exploding... both great... BUT THIS VERSION FUCKING ROCKS !!!! Awesome! Thanks for posting it.

  • Sacudiendome todo lo que es el cyberpunk sensible interior

  • DAVID BOWIE FUCKING ROCKS......SRV Too, what a treat.

  • this is still the best version

  • I like both versions and don't wanna miss one of them.

  • @FreddyFredstar That works too.

  • blows the Moroder version OUT OF THE WATER!!! GO STEVIE RAY, RIP!!!

  • @alexdroogie100 Agreed

  • @alexdroogie100 right on alex, no comparison, Stevie is the man and always will be......

  • My favourite

  • Bazinga!

  • CHHHOOOOOOONNNN!!!!!

  • The better version. SRV and the tempo is better. This is an awesome song. I can't believe that they picked the Georgio Moroder version for the film.

  • @wpollock1 SRV!!!

  • I like the movie version. If I had to choose.

  • @DJMeowMixer I agree............

  • inglorious basterds kinda sux , buy the album lets dance instead

  • David is the shit - but damn Stevie is bad ass

  • I would not have been surprised if Tin Machine had added this song to their live set...Reece certainly could handle it, and it would have been thunderous on stage..

  • this is more "Bowie" than the original, but i love this re-recording, and it also suits the whole theme of the Lets Dance album, but both the versions are amazing in thier own ways, its not right to compair them.

  • @Gears2warzone Agreed!

  • Thanks for all the views!

  • By far the best version of this song. It has real ummphhhff!!!!!

  • @BIGEDZ1981 I totally agree. Thanks

  • Not a huge Bowie fan but this is one of the best songs written. SRV took it, ran with it and put it over the edge.

  • Comment removed

  • @mistermangetout i guess you don't know bowie at all to say that lol !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Stevie Ray tied this song to the rest of the album. The original wasn't as good as this. Original was/isn't bad, just not as good as this. Bloody fine!

  • @drewskee67 ~ SRV fan myself, but can't fully agree. Bowie's vocals on the original are amazing. That powerful and tremelo heavy "GAS-OH-LEE-E-E-E-E-N" during the first verse of the original is just yowzah. The original's dramatic and fits the mood and score of the movie. Yes SRV's playing ties the song to the rest of the album. He's still great(living beyond this mortal coil for sure). However this song has so much more life in it than it's place on Let's Dance.

  • @drewskee67 Thanks, amazing isn't it?

  • Haven't heard a version I don't like. Hell I even like Glen Danzig's cover. It must be a testament to the song itsself that it actually holds up so well. Haven't heard a cover surpass the original or this, but still haven't heard a horrible version.

  • one of the most innovative minds of Britain

  • Brilliant! Until recently, one of the most underrated Bowie songs.

  • SRV together with Bowie,as later''let's dance''. sounds incredible, perfect.thanks for this one!

  • @timris You're very welcome

  • SRV makes this track I love Bowie But the Axe is what held me on this .

  • @ronarmjr To me it's the axe, the lyrics, the driving relentlessness

  • best version by a long way in my opinion. pumps the blood through the veins!!

  • Agreed!

  • unbelievably low, the level of mind and spirit an tongue on youtube, they kill each other verbally about who is the faster or more famous guitarist. it shows that too many idle dorks only sit around instead of practicing their guitars themselves.

  • The only dorks around here are You

    And Justin Beiber

  • Bowie apparently hired Vaughan, for a low amount on this album. But Stevie came thru and sounds wonderful.

  • He just PWNS all over it
