Why would anyone think to bring up Rob Zombie when Zappa is educating us? Its like watching George Carlin and someone compares him to Dane Cook. Fuckin' idiots.
@RTT8001 Are you kidding? I don't miss the days when the only choices for entertainment were a few network TV channels. Now you can watch Zappa videos, Senegalese drumming, or Bulgarian wedding music 24/7 if you like. Network TV may have been a bit more open then (I assume that's what you mean), but it's all we had, and it was corporate controlled. I miss Frank, but not the old entertainment choices; thank goodness we're past that miserable time.
@Gregorypeckory You kidding? I'm not sure how old you are but I don't think you are fully aware of the era at all when you claim a "miserable time." Network TV helped and spawned new music and new acts to a world wide audience. The entertainment world has always basically been "corporate controlled" as it is today. I could name a minimum of 30 shows which had a impact on the music of the times. In 2012, the internet does nothing as far as having an real impact on the music today
@RTT8001 not true at all. look at what anton newcombe is doing and you'll be eating your own words. the man is recording 5 albums to be released this year and he has been letting us watch him make countless songs through live feeds on ustream. watching his creative process can only inspire and show others that, "wow, I could do this" (granted not at the sheer speed anton does, but you get my point)
In Alice Cooper's book he wrote that the girls in the GTO's told them to go to Frank's house at 7. For some reason they showed up at 7 AM ! Frank was sleeping and got woken up by all the noise.... er, I mean music.
@Synthhtnys Zombie is an eclectic sort of dude, with a sense of humour...as close as we could get to Zappa in the mid Nineties...in a B-Movie sort of way.
@DarkZekeX Um, a bit like the sister band of tool... Rob Zombie is more important than that, just like he's more important than Manson, Reznor and Placebo. He's as important as Faith No More, Buttholes, Beck and Ministry...
Rob Zombie is like the new Frank Zappa, but sadly not as good... But you still have to admit Zombie is quite talented! Obviously their music is nothing alike, but you get my point.
@BeeFittyTwooz No, not really. Everything Rob Zombie does is influenced by horror cinema. His bands, his solo projects, his comic books, and certainly his films. He also works on mostly mainstream platforms. Frank Zappa was primarily an avant-garde musician who was influenced by a combination of jazz, classical music, and absurd comedy. Zombie is very much a "genre" guy and Zappa was the antithesis of that. No judgement on Zombie's work, some of which I enjoy, but the two are nothing alike.
@khanflesh I meant by attitude. Like i said, not by music. They are sort of the same in there generations. Like i said, Rob Zombie is the NEW, as in modern era, Frank Zappa. If you don't understand, i'm sorry i can't interpret what i mean... i'm just sharing my opinion.
@BeeFittyTwooz Zombie is primarily interested in working within mainstream cinema and Zappa was primarily interested in the avant-garde. Putting aside the content of their work, they are diametrically opposed to one another in creative intent. Someone like John Zorn fits the bill more readily as the new Zappa. Again, I'm not talking about the content of their music, but the intent behind their endeavors. I respect your opinion, however. Agree to disagree? :)
@BeeFittyTwooz There is definitely cenceptual continuity between Zappa and Zombie - There are few individuals who warrant a comparison to Zappa, and Zombie is definitely one of them... both of them have a "pan-ness" to their material - in other words, they aren't afraid to touch any type of music, where as most artists only find success by pursuing a very narrow spirit/vibe within the culture...wise opinions, man!
@khanflesh If you can't see conceptual continuity between Zappa and Zombie, then maybe you really don't get Zappa at all?... you can't see a STRONG B-culture theme within Zappa's work? Rob Zombie is a lot more complex than you realise, I think. Zappa was also classifiable in many other ways as merely "avant garde"
Dude, the conspiracy is played right in front of your eyes. The conspirators tell you exactly what they want to do. Stop jumping at shadows, the reality is right in front of your face.
Funny how Frank assumed a guy was playing when he wasn't in the room....LOL Hey guys, check out my first music video...YouTube Debbie Tomko....The Ending May Surprise You!!! :-)
In fact, Gibby Haynes is about as close as an Eighties/Nineties artist could be to being Frank Zappa.

@eqsmooth okay... I'm not a huge Rob Zombie fan, but there's hyperbole, and then there's comparing people to Dane Cook. Rob Zombie is not that bad.

@DarkZekeX He's bad enough for me to have forgotten him after just one album I bought many years ago. But I get your point.

I always liked Mike Douglas, and have been a fan of Frank's for some time. This a real treat to have them talking on Alice Cooper. Awesome!
