  • Who was your dad. I grad in 1975 .. Played FB,BB,Track.

    Kanach great on the mats.

  • I ran into Daryl at Virginia Tech. He was great on the mat and a nice person off the mat. I'm saddened to hear of his recent passing.

I wrestled for New Providence and graduated in 1976.

  • My father wrestled heavyweight for Hunterdon Central from '73-'76. He says their team won the state championship in '76 and I've always wanted to see one of his matches. If anyone knows how I can get a hold of any footage please let me know. Thanks!

  • In 1976, HC was undefeated (as were 4 other teams) and ranked #1 in the state. Since this was only a ranking, there is no video of HC actually winning the team state championship. Maybe someone associated with HC would know if there are any old videos around that may include your father. Hopefully, you have luck on your side.

  • Wow. I saw that match. Jadwin Gym.

  • It was an action packed final with 2 great competitors. It's a shame they couldn't win at different weight classes. Like John Mulligan, Daryl was a 2X state runner-up. In college, Daryl wrestled for Virginia Tech.

  • Yeah Kanach lost to DiGiacchino of Delaware Valley the year before. We all thought he would win that one, too. Mulligan was unbeatable except in the state finals. So tough during the season. I remember some controversy during Mulligan's senior year where coach Riegel replaced him with, i guess, Andrews, who himself made it to the finals. Best meets were like HC at North Hunterdon in the lion's den. That was a great spectacle.

  • In 75, Daryl lost to Dom DiGioacchino from Hanover Park. Kanach and Mulligan had lots of heart. They wrestled non-stop to the very end in both finals. In 76, a wrestle off should have decided who won the 122 spot at HC. Andrews was equally tough and went to Virginia Tech. HC teams were the best or among the best in the state in the 70's. Hal Vandermark's NH teams were also good with some great wrestlers.
