Mozart wrote this in Paris after his mother that travelled with him had passed away. He was only 22 years old. That makes me realize that humility is not an unnecessary luxury....pure genius and a great performance by maestro Arrau!
@mydymydy THIS IS THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THIS SONATA, what is "worse in your opinion" this is as perfect as it gets in all levels, technical, musical, and spiritual....
@arturon111 There is not such a thing as a "best performance" of anything. There are different artists with different approaches, different visions, different sensibilities. At most this may be the performance YOU like best, but there may be persons who prefer other versions.
@valmusic This isn't Mozart's 7th Piano Sonata, it's the 8th. Piano Sonata No. 7 is K.309 and is in C Major. I have the book in front of me right now. :)
To tell you the truth, I have never appreciated Arrau until I started watching his playing on YouTube. He has definitely excellent taste in music. His style has its own class.
@ibk1980 Yeah, Baldwin and Yamaha...they're really not for Classical Music. I try SO hard to get a soft sound out of those, you just can't. I play much better on a Blüthner or Steinway, or any piano that was manually assembled, instead of being made by a machine.
what mistakes, i play this piece,.. and dont know what youre talking about,... what you MAY think is a mistke is that he phrases every little note so some slurs make some notes sound cut off,... otherwise is as clean as it can be,....
Arrau switched to Steinway, I think sometime in the 1960s. I tend to think of Baldwin as having less depth of tone than Steinway (sometimes clunky basses and bright upper registers--usually without the limpid singing tone of Steinway). But there have been some very good Baldwins in the past. Gieseking apparently made all his great Debussy recordings on a Baldwin (and all his other repertoire). The company went bankrupt years ago and seems to have been replaced by Yamaha as S's main US rival
Oh... okey, thanx for the information maalga2008, so its normal if this song is beautiful because he write it for his mother... do you have this piece on mp3 or have an idea to find it ?
It s Mozart Piano Sonata No.8 in A minor, K.310, 3. Presto and not 7 ...
The A minor sonata is the first of only two Mozart piano sonatas to have been composed in a minor key. Written around the time of the death of Mozart's mother, it is the darkest of his piano sonatas. The last movement in particular has an obsessive, haunted quality about it, heightened near the end by the interruption of the relentless drive to the conclusion by repeated and chilling quiet falling passages.
I love this sonata, but i cant find this piece anywhere, everytime the Sonata N°7 - K 310 is a other piece... if someone can help me, and give me a link where i can find this piece...
I have to say "Maestro, I kneel down before thee!" I also like Dino Lipatti's A-minor performance, which I think one of the best, but of course, in my humble opinion
What is painful is that he makes it look easy! The Master Arrau always puts the music ahead of his prodigious technique. Every phrase is thoughout and perfect.
oh Thomas....im surprised with his Mozart.....i liked it...this is the one i learned.....hey i just performed today and one of the pieces was by Messiaen
