Dennis handled it better that I would've. I would've just stopped and yelled "AW, SHIT!" right there on live TV. I would've let it get to me. (That is why he's a profession and I'm not.) :D
If you've ever performed live, this is an inevitable thing. Got to know Dennis in recent years. He's a solid, professional, exciting singer who still does well and has great chops. Not many could have pulled this off in such a smooth way. Anyone who criticizes, well, you've never been in front of millions, have you?
It was a Flub, Dennis reversed the lyrics of the First verse, it happens alot when bands perform live, Nothing to do with shortning the song , ( they did that with cutting the intrementals ) the shortning was planned probley months before they played, they flub was that Just a flub.
I've seen many singers flub their lyrics on more than one occasion. The good thing here is he recovered nicely. And the sign of a good band is they waited to kick in with the guitar/drums until after he brought the correct lyrics back in to cue them. I've seen some bands just move along with the song and wait for the singer to get back on track which makes the mistake all the more glaring. These guys are notorious perfectionists, so I'll bet you Dennis was pissed at himself!
@wakaw07 - sorry to disappoint but it was definitely a flub. The song length is exactly the same as the original version and he resang the lyrics to recover in the same amount of lyric measures. And it's a short song to begin with. I was complimenting them on a good recovery. I think it takes a very talented band to make it look seamless and they are pros!
wow-- OOOPS-- foget the(YOUR OWN) lyrics much ? Dennis needs a refresher .. ?? ♦ Lady, when youre with me Im smiling Give me all your love Your hands build me up when Im sinking Just touch me and my troubles all fade Lady, from the moment I saw you Standing all alone You gave all the love that I needed So shy, like a child who has grown ►
Thanks for the post Styxter...This is clearly one of the best songs of my generation...I'm a big Styx fan and wore out The Grand Illusion, my first album, back in 1977...this song, of course pre dates that...Thanks for the post...
This is what a true pro does when they screw up (as ALL the pros do). Dennis is a class act and never broke. Just started over. It's entertainment folks. Enjoy it!
I thought he made a great recovery. I wonder how many non-Styx fans even knew the difference? The song sounded great, as did Dennis' voice. This was an excellent appearance.
Yes he did. The story was that they were going to play one of their new songs sung by Glen Burtnik but at the last minute they were told to play something classic so it really wasn't that rehearsed. That's the story I heard anyway.
I see only 2 original members....

I've never seen video of Dennis messing up. Seen him in concert too.
I initially thought it was a short version of some kind, but obviously not due to singing the lyric at the right time later.
Man Styx got pimped in 1990, lots of exposure it seems. Then A&M dumped them.

Was it a flub or did he purposely shorten it for TV? Just a thought...

Not a flub> a t.v show thus a shortened version!~ intentional without a doubt!

I saw it right away. Seemed like the 'tape' skipped and then it was back on track again. Yea, good recovery. He does sound like Dennis

Ha- thats rediculous! YOU write the song...? You DONT FORGET THE LRYICS,!! Just a classic FAIL..--
but still a great tune→don't get me wrong.

Wow, I caught it right away. I must say Dennis is a true professional. Didn't miss a beat. Went with it, all so smoothly and finished strong!

So sad the original line up parted ways. Chuck P. died, and the rest just couldn't see eye to eye. What a shame.
