Grunting has it's place, ie when you are at your max or close to it on any given lift, NOT from set 1 with 50% of you 1rm, the guys who make the most noise with the smallest weights are usually the weakest guys in the weight room, and just attention seeking douche bags. You can tell who they are cos they wear a lifting belt, straps and gloves from the minute they walk in to the minute they finish, even if it's just a triceps workout, and they almost always have ILS (Imaginary Lat Syndrome)
I'm THAT GUY at the gym. And no, it's just at the gym. And yes, I know THAT guys, like the one with the green T-shirt on the video, who just fill the emptyness at the gym, who dont really work out, generally speaking - who just jerk off at the gym. And MAYBE...it's not just at the gym?)))
I also love the guys who just stand around the machine for minutes at a time like the other dude in the vid...I see giving a humph at your last couple of reps though. It gives you a little motivation.
LOL Reminds Me Of Sum Cat That Was Working Out At This One Gym That I Was At......Its All Good But There Are Some Blokes Who Kill That Shyt....You Know Exactly What I mean mates Holy Fuck Like Seriously:(
aaaarhhhggg sorry i just picked up my glass of water i carry thousands of pounds of tile 2 or3 boxes at a time 5 55lb cement boards at once and never make a face or a noise but im a man
I've seen people like that at the gym, a bunch of us tell them to STFU OR GTFO! There is no need for that....grunting is fine, but thats over the top.
honestly i dont get what the deal about grunting is.. honestly i would love it if i could walk into a gym and hear everyone grunting lifting their hearts out. its stupid corporations like planet fitness that have made this natural thing something that should be avoided and considered rude when it isnt. everyone needs to loosen up and not give a shit.. its a gym for gods sake. if you dont like hearing people putting all their effort into what theyre lifting, like gmtillman8 said, go home and bake
this video is obviously exaggerated but as far as im concerned if youre trying to get big in the gym and you dont at least let out some small grunts once in a while youre not doing it right
If you got a problem with grunting, get out. I don't grunt, but I don't mind those that do. When put under the most extreme pressures, regardless of what you tell your body to do, it will do what thousands of years of evolutionary success has taught it to do, and if thats grunting, so be it. Either lift or stop wasting my oxygen and get the hell out of the gym.
Nothing wrong with grunting in the gym, although I've seen some guys that either make a show out of it or they're just really prone to grunting. Oh well, no big deal.
@soonerfannathen I think most people grunt when they are doing heavy weight, but I agree no more then a grunt. I have this dude on the football team that screams pretty much every rep. Even doing sit ups. It's annoying
This video describes it all even though heavily exaggerated. There's the guy working his ass off trying his best to achieve things and the other douche bag who just "casually" works out, not really pushing himself.
@gmtillman8 You're probably one of the guys that annoys the crap out of everyone else in the gym. It's one thing to finish up a set with a grunt or something of the sort, but when it accompanies every rep it's just aggravating for the guys that realize that lifting doesn't require vocal cords. If you have to grunt to lift maybe you should be the one at home baking.
@gmtillman8 lol. grunting is annoying. well if they were to grunt softly to themselves its fine, i do that too. but grunting like a overgrown bitch is annoying and uncalled for right? hahaha
@gmtillman8 I agree to a certain degree. It's that guy who is doing a warm up set of 15 reps and he is grunting and yelling on rep 2-3 of a 15 rep set, working with 60% of his max weight lol Those are the idiots that bother me lol. I feel like they are playing gym instead of going to a gym lol.
@gmtillman8 Are you serious? Imagine if everyone did that it would sound like a fucken zoo, if you have to grunt your lifting way to much weight and are asking to snap your shit up
LOL Last i checked the Gym is not Church or the Library and you cant get a noise violation ticket if you are moving some major steel i see nothing wrong with noise
In all honesty, the grunting releases much of the necessary tension you require to effectively lift. To really stay tense and tight, you shouldn't make a noise apart from a tight exhale through pursed lips, keeps the core tight, and doesn't make you look like a tool.
honestly though. notice the guy grunting is slightly bigger. lol. intensity doesnt need to be that rediculous but he was in better shape than the guy sitting there starring at him annoyed.
this is so ridiculous.....if you have time at gym to pay attention to what others are doing then you are simply not concentrating enough so start working out and pay more attention to yourself then you won't be bothered even if somebody is growling at you so quit being a poser while are you at gym ...train hard or go fucking home and just for everybody out there who actualy gives a fuck about growling at gym i'm going to scream just for you
I've never seen any reason to grunt or groan at the gym, heavy weights or not. It's annoying as hell to those around you and serves no purpose,,even though many think it does. But people think because it's a gym, they have a license to do so, but they wouldn't do that in public if asked to lift the same amount of weight.

@WillGoesBoing Your statement is rather retarded. Obviously, irrespective of the strength of the individual, if they are lifting to failure, the last rep is going to require the same amount of exertion and thus the same physical response. That remains true for a kid lifting light or a professional lifting heavy.
@celtlen Ok dudes, if you guys want to yell and scream like you're giving birth and look like a complete douche.... go ahead and do it. While you THINK that makes you look hardcore/motivated/intense, people around you are thinking you're an idiot. As I said if you don't care.... go ahead and do it. You screamers and moaners are the reason I wear an ipod at the gym... and turn it high enough where I only hear the music.
@WillGoesBoing and im sure u do lots of nice curls, 135 pound bench presses and admire ur triceps every time u walk past a mirror. grunting and/or exhaling forcefully are an essential part of heavy, intense training.. it tenses your diapragm and abdominals which results in more core stability leading to more effective power output and safer lifting.. and please dont try to convince me that u know what ur doing in the gym since ur stupid enough to think people grunt to look intense
If you're grunting and making all sorts of jungle noises at the gym, you better be lifting some REALLY heavy weights. I have no problem hearing a guy grunt on the last rep of deadlift when he's doing 500lbs for reps, but when a guy grunts while bench pressing 135lbs, that's freakin retarded.
@WillGoesBoing Word, sometimes there's a grunt on the last rep of a heavy lift or something, but noise just distracts me! I don't want to hear some guy's bloody orgasm noise when I'm trying to press the heaviest weight of my life...
@WillGoesBoing True....but if that guy is serious about making muscle gains.....but is just soo weak....they all have to start out somewhere.....at least they are dedicated and mayb one day they could end up dead lifting 500lbs.
@blackishlovah123 I understand we all start somewhere, but if I know I'm weak and I think I would like to draw as little attention to myself as possible. It is a fact that when you make noise, you get more power, but the thing is there are a lot of people around you who doesn't want to hear it. It's called courtesy. I can lift plenty heavy without grunting or dropping my weights (another big pet peeve of mine).
@WillGoesBoing Yeah...if your doing it to intentionally draw attention to urself then you shouldn't do it.....but sometimes u just get so pumped that last 2 reps u might have to grunt or yell....
@WillGoesBoing makes no difference how much weight it is. what about people that 135lbs is there max out? you have to start some where and saying that 135lb isn't hard for anyone is just stupid. I rock climb and I yell my ass off when I cant get the last hold, and thats just body weight.
I cant dealift 500lbs but I guarantee someone who can deadlift 500 cant climb 35ft up a wal by the tips of their fingers.....
@WillGoesBoing "I can life plenty heavy weight without grunting or dropping my weights"...i call that bullshit....you really expect people to think that you can push hard and not have to yell, grunt, or even breath loudly at the last few burning reps? and then expect to set the weight down gently? obviously it must mean you dont workout hard enough
@juicer3891 Dude, how many times do I have to say this. If you want to grunt and scream, do it. I've been tazed for a full 5 seconds with 50,000 volts during training and I didn't make a sound. Could I scream at the top of my lungs and relieve some of that pain more? YES, but screaming like a pussy will make me look like...well... a pussy. I got much more respect by not making so much as a squeak. When I see a guy lifting heavy and not making a rukus, I think it's badass.
if you think i grunt just to be annoying and showing off then you are foolishly mistaken! there is a big difference between doing dumb shit like that as opposed to pushing yourself so hard during your set that on your last few reps, where if you even are training hard, you NATURALLY breath loudly, and may even let out a slight grunt, moan, or yell...apparently you don't seem to get it though, you must be from the planet fitness posse
@dietrich098 what a stupid statement. if nobody who couldnt lift 135 ever went to the gym then nobody period would ever be able to lift 135. Unless you can show me a newborn who can bench 135
@Newbpwng Grunters are Role-play queers, thinking they're in a Rocky movie. If you have to make noise from struggling so far, you need to workout at home. But then they think the grunting means something, and fail to understand how embarrassing it is.
@ThePantyDroper i got a house gym and i scream and grunt as much as i want and i know for a fact when i scream i get adrenaline rush and can always do more reps at home, i also go to the gym by mostly only for leg and chest days
i dont know why everyone complains about the grunting, do you faggots want it to be as quiet as a fucking library? what do you expect from people lifting heavy objects. not everybody goes there to get lean
@MarkHorp next time if you have a gym near go and grab some weights and go infront those prepy fags lifting 5 pound dumbells and grunt in there face haha
@MarkHorp LOL, even still, when you have good volume on your weights, you still only have to do so much grunting. Anything more and you're most likely trying to lift TOO heavy.

@WillGoesBoing Word, sometimes there's a grunt on the last rep of a heavy lift or something, but noise just distracts me! I don't want to hear some guy's bloody orgasm noise when I'm trying to press the heaviest weight of my life...
Maarkaald 1 month ago
@Maarkaald listen to some music i always grunt on a good workout i notice since i get allot of pumps and feel like a alpha male
GanGsTerR4Live 1 month ago
@WillGoesBoing True....but if that guy is serious about making muscle gains.....but is just soo weak....they all have to start out somewhere.....at least they are dedicated and mayb one day they could end up dead lifting 500lbs.
blackishlovah123 1 month ago
@blackishlovah123 I understand we all start somewhere, but if I know I'm weak and I think I would like to draw as little attention to myself as possible. It is a fact that when you make noise, you get more power, but the thing is there are a lot of people around you who doesn't want to hear it. It's called courtesy. I can lift plenty heavy without grunting or dropping my weights (another big pet peeve of mine).
WillGoesBoing 1 month ago
@WillGoesBoing Yeah...if your doing it to intentionally draw attention to urself then you shouldn't do it.....but sometimes u just get so pumped that last 2 reps u might have to grunt or yell....
blackishlovah123 1 month ago
@WillGoesBoing makes no difference how much weight it is. what about people that 135lbs is there max out? you have to start some where and saying that 135lb isn't hard for anyone is just stupid. I rock climb and I yell my ass off when I cant get the last hold, and thats just body weight.
I cant dealift 500lbs but I guarantee someone who can deadlift 500 cant climb 35ft up a wal by the tips of their fingers.....
krypekeeper 1 month ago
@WillGoesBoing "I can life plenty heavy weight without grunting or dropping my weights"...i call that bullshit....you really expect people to think that you can push hard and not have to yell, grunt, or even breath loudly at the last few burning reps? and then expect to set the weight down gently? obviously it must mean you dont workout hard enough
juicer3891 4 weeks ago
@juicer3891 Dude, how many times do I have to say this. If you want to grunt and scream, do it. I've been tazed for a full 5 seconds with 50,000 volts during training and I didn't make a sound. Could I scream at the top of my lungs and relieve some of that pain more? YES, but screaming like a pussy will make me look like...well... a pussy. I got much more respect by not making so much as a squeak. When I see a guy lifting heavy and not making a rukus, I think it's badass.
WillGoesBoing 4 weeks ago
if you think i grunt just to be annoying and showing off then you are foolishly mistaken! there is a big difference between doing dumb shit like that as opposed to pushing yourself so hard during your set that on your last few reps, where if you even are training hard, you NATURALLY breath loudly, and may even let out a slight grunt, moan, or yell...apparently you don't seem to get it though, you must be from the planet fitness posse

@WillGoesBoing tazed for 5 seconds with 50,000 volts? My fucking arse....

@WillGoesBoing for some people 135 is their max so its perfectly fine to grunt. were not all super strong powerlifters

@kobeballer if you cant life 135, dont go to the gym, you people ruin it by not doing anything or doing it right in the first place.

@dietrich098 what a stupid statement. if nobody who couldnt lift 135 ever went to the gym then nobody period would ever be able to lift 135. Unless you can show me a newborn who can bench 135

grunting = dedication and pushing yourself to limit. complaining about grunters = faggots lifting 5lb dumbbells and treadmill rats
Newbpwng 1 month ago 19
@Newbpwng its understandable on late reps but not every rep guy... where i come from we like to call those guys frat boy fuckers...
166TheTruth 1 month ago
@Newbpwng Grunters are Role-play queers, thinking they're in a Rocky movie. If you have to make noise from struggling so far, you need to workout at home. But then they think the grunting means something, and fail to understand how embarrassing it is.
Same with Harley Fags. All noise and role-play.

@Newbpwng I can max out without grunting. Does that mean I am not ushing myself to my limits?
ThePantyDroper 3 weeks ago
@ThePantyDroper no that means your not maxing out

@Newbpwng You can max out without grunting/yelling.

@ThePantyDroper i got a house gym and i scream and grunt as much as i want and i know for a fact when i scream i get adrenaline rush and can always do more reps at home, i also go to the gym by mostly only for leg and chest days
Newbpwng 3 weeks ago
@ThePantyDroper you're full of it!
juicer3891 3 weeks ago
@Newbpwng SO TRUE. skinny at the gym told me to stop grunt, because i did heavy lifting... the cunt was fucking weak and could barely do 10lbs rofl.
TheEpicShitz 3 weeks ago
@Newbpwng You can push yourself to the limit without screaming like a baby, selfcontrol learn to master it.

i dont know why everyone complains about the grunting, do you faggots want it to be as quiet as a fucking library? what do you expect from people lifting heavy objects. not everybody goes there to get lean

If you have enough weights and do training with intensity, you grunt.. simple as that..
Those guys who have small weights and just try to look good while lifting are funny.. waste of time..
MarkHorp 1 month ago 40
@MarkHorp next time if you have a gym near go and grab some weights and go infront those prepy fags lifting 5 pound dumbells and grunt in there face haha
XxModernDayRaiderxX 1 month ago
@MarkHorp grunting - good, overdoing it and yelling - bad. ok?:)
proxx1988 1 month ago
@MarkHorp LOL, even still, when you have good volume on your weights, you still only have to do so much grunting. Anything more and you're most likely trying to lift TOO heavy.
Bae8707 1 month ago
@Bae8707 its not to do with weight its intensity. you usually make more noise on last reps
Yeeeooo000 1 month ago
@MarkHorp saw a guy flat dumbell press 140 pounds each hand, got 7 reps out, not one grunt, grunting isnt necessary its just ridiculous
HARRIER077 1 month ago
@MarkHorp Exactly, when you go very heavy, you can't help but make some kind of grunt.
