  • great video! very well put together. my only suggestion would be to lower the music volume a bit so we can hear what you're saying a bit better. you had a lot of great things to say! thank you

  • well put

  • If I lose my unborn child through crime, my child's death should be legally recognized for what it is: a homicide. This reality should not be sacrificed for a legal fiction in the name of "choice". If legal abortion must rest on a legal fiction, that reflects poorly on its own logical foundations.

  • Of course they know that....which is why they are so afraid of this bill.

  • Ever hear of concurrent sentencing? It means that if there were 2 counts, the sentences are served together. This bill will NOT protect pregnant women, it will NOT prevent violence against women, and it will NOT give longer sentences. What it will do is act as a stepping stone to recriminalize abortion, and that is its ONLY goal. Preying on the grief of crime victims to get this backdoor legislation passed is just sick.

  • This bill was not created for these reasons. It was created to address the very specific loss of a woman's unborn child, which currently there is no justice or recognition for. But you people continue to ignore that fact.

  • Please read carefully- a woman who suffers the loss of a wanted unborn child NEEDS the law to ackowledge the existence of her unborn child and death, which acknowledges her loss and need to grieve. According to the Canadian Pediatric Society (Guidelines for health care professionals supporting families experiencing a perinatal loss;Fetus and Newborn Committee, Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS)Paediatrics & Child Health 2001 6(71): 469-477.Reference No. FN01-02 Reaffirmed May 2007),

  • this is essential for parents and families suffering perinatal loss.

Women want and need the law to execute justice for the life of her child. Much more was taken from her than an appendage. Most women find it offensive that the law ackowledges animals and property more than a woman's unborn child.

  • Now, could you imagine if Robert Picton was only charged with the murder of one woman because he won't be given any more time anyway? It would be a complete disregard for the lives of all the other women who were killed. It would be a complete absence of justice. I wonder how that would sit with the families of the rest of the women.

  • Abortion is explicitly exempted in the bill, as is any action or omission on the woman's part. The slippery slope argument is nothing but fear mongering and can't be substantiated with evidence.

  • That you people would sacrifice the wants and needs of grieving women and their families just so you won't run the risk of feeling guilty about a choice you might make is what is truly sick.

We should not have to conform to the fairy tale that the fetus does not exist just to make you feel better about your choices. This bill allows for your choice to abort, but my unborn child should not be sacrificed for you to have it with no guilt.

  • Correction: "lawful termination" is excluded by the bill. Make abortion illegal and C-484 can be used to charge women and doctors. The pro-life lobby have set the board and they've thought a few moves ahead. Problem is they've played this exact game before in the U.S. Canadians are wise to this and aren't buying. It doesn't matter how many times we're told this is really about protecting moms from violence and not making abortion illegal. One word — "lawful" — totally blows away that cover.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "lawful termination" or "any act or omission on the part of the woman" excluded? Does there not have to be a crime committed against the woman?

I really hope you are never unfortunate enough to lose a loved unborn child, but if you ever were you would then understand why there is a need for this bill and it has nothing to do with abortion.

  • The video is not an insult to pregnant women. It is about protection for an unborn child that is wanted. This is very simple and straightforward.

  • This video is an insult to pregnant women. Read the legislation for yourself and you will see that this is an attempt to limit women's reproductive freedoms. It is a bill designed to "kick abortion's ass" according to one social conservative.

  • There are a number of lies in that narration.

Assault on anyone at any time is a criminal offence, and it is a lie to claim otherwise of assault on pregnant women. Assault on a pregnant woman is aggravated assault, and homicide is homicide, no matter who you are.

We should be revising penalties for assaulting pregnant women or new mothers, who are also at risk, but Bill C-484 does not seek to do that. I urge everyone to read the bill carefully.

  • Most women do not just want revised penalties for an assault AGAINST HER if her UNBORN CHILD is killed during an attack. These are two separate crimes, not one. Two separate bodies, not one. Most women want acknowledgment and justice for the lives of their unborn children.

  • When a woman is burying her child she usually is not subscribing to the belief that her child was just an appendage. It was her child and she wants justice for that life, acknowledgment that it indeed existed, and not to be patronized.

Every woman should not be forced to adopt an unscientific and delusional perception of her unborn child in order for some other people to perform and obtain abortions without the risk of feeling guilty, and that's all the opposition is concerned about.

  • Not about the majority of women, but about maintaining an idea of the fetus that has has no basis in facts.

If my unborn child was killed right now at 38 wks, I would want the law to prosecute for the loss of my child, not just for an attack against me. So would most women.

  • "two separate bodies" -- right. You just proved my point. This is an attempt to establish legal status for the fetus -- iow, it's a backdoor attempt to recriminalize abortion.

The law can deliver justice to pregnant women without devaluing the lives of everyone else, which this bill does.

  • Oh dear...we legislate on many things without giving those things personhood rights. We even legislate on the protection of animals. What a slap in the face to a woman who has carried her unborn child, had it taken against her will, and then to be told it never existed in the eyes of the law.

There is no justice for a woman who loved her child when you devalue the life of her child. It's like spitting in her face.

  • Thank you!

  • It's true,

I wish I could hear the words more clearly.

  • I could hear it loud and clear, check your volume or maybe your youtube volume control?

  • This is important and the speaker is far too quiet;

  • This is a very good video. I'm passing this along to everyone I know

  • Do you have this in French? That would really help.
