  • This movie was absolutely AWESOME. I never really listened to Eddie Vedder so closely until I watched this movie. I can listen to this entire soundtrack over and over (with a few beers of course)

  • @tomT024 Damn, nver thought of it like that man.

  • *insert corny quote here*

  • I lost one of my close friends in a car accident just before Christmas. This film was one he liked and more so he reminds me of the lead character . He was always off disappearing into the wilderness in some foreign country for 6 months on end. I have too much love for the dude and this song will always encompass his spirit . Rest in peace edward chaffe "I read somewhere... how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong... but to feel strong. "

  • Into the Wild is not based on a true story. In what reality does someone graduate from University and have a $ 24.000 on a savings account?

  • @JanWillemvdH fuck face that what he had lefted you ass cunt watch the fuck movie or read a book for once

  • @JanWillemvdH It is a true story !! He had rich parents, dont say anything if you dont know anything about it !

  • @JanWillemvdH Trust me. For me its almost a pure demonstration of Chris's story. But yeah, lets just say its based on it. Ive read the book as well. I highly recommend it.

  • se foçe no brasil poser e seu cu

  • hello I'm from Brazil. I live in pune. I think this film speaks not only a phase in which (young or old) should do. I think the life and times of a renewal. love this movie, and I'll show my kids.

  • song is amazing!

  • I'm not going to argue with you any more, say what ever you must but I am not going to listen to someone so stuck-up, arrogant, know it all, POSER.

Already feel bad for littering the comments section on such a great video.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Your argument is flawed on so many levels POSER! Your comments show that you want the Disney theme park ride with all your modern comforts. What you lack is the fortitude, will and desire to survive. You want to play pretend in your moms garden. Instincts are intrinsic to survival, and are more important than your book knowledge.

If a catastrophe ended civilization as we know it tomorrow, the human race would adapt and survive on their instincts because they would have no choice.

  • @TheLovvestLevel You could learn all there is about survival and still not last cause your spirit is feeble. Everyone strives to be free but going to Alaska is not a universal definition of what it is.

This is just a phase with you next week you will see Gladiator and want to that. You blame society from preventing you doing this but in the next sentance lists how it enables you do so. Hope you moms garden is big! What a great adventure that waits for you! POSER!!

  • Nearly every Human-being on this planet follows the rules, goes to work, is a slave to the system. I was once, now I have seen the alternative. Many people have seen the alternative, but nobody can get it, why, because they lack the knowledge to survive. The internet may be a great source of knowledge, but if you don't realize the knowledge is there until its to late, the system has won. lucky I realized after watching this film, I am only 18, so I still have a chance at the alternative.

  • It is only when you bother to look deeper, do you realize and at that point can you start to learn how to survive. But most of us never make it to the point of realization.

  • @TheLovvestLevel You forget many people feel like they are forced to live in a cage but escaping to the wilderness is not their dream of freedom. Society attempts to define what dream you should have, and make you feel ashamed of aspiring to something different. This film shows that you don't have to be a prisoners and there is an alternative but more often than not it will desire fortitude and sacrifice!

  • @ghostpen8 Your are pathetic. You tell me all I need to survive is my instincts and I will adapt, yet you say the only place I could survive is my mothers garden. And thanks for agreeing with me "this film shows that you don't have to be a prisoner" That's what I have been saying, most people don't realize they are a prisoner, they follow all the rules , they go to work. It's only until you watch a film such as this one, do you see the alternative.

  • I am but 18 and can see how we are held back, can you not see this. Children are no longer taught survival from there parents. We have lost the knowledge, the only up-side is... society connects people, so we still have a chance to learn from each other from what is left.

  • @TheLovvestLevel That is a farcical statement to make! Survival does not just cover living in the wilds of Alaska. There are numerous political survivalist organisations who are trained and supplied who foresee a breakdown in society. Rebel Guerrilla organisation fighting for regime change/autonomy around the globe exist in remote locations. The knowledge is far from lost and tomorrow if all the comforts disappeared the human race would endure cause it would use their instincts to survive adapt.

  • And can you please stop saying that I'm talking about my mothers garden, just because I wish to have the knowledge to survive to make survival easier for me, does not mean I want survival to be easy. It should be hard, that's why we learn it, if we only used our instincts to survive, imagine how simple it would be to survive... anybody could do it. In the real world, only a few could survive in the wild, for society has held the rest of us back.

  • @TheLovvestLevel That's about the only place you could survive in. You could get wi-fi, charge your phone go online, and by day you could try and kill the pet rabbit you mom placed in the garden for you.

You can hone your skills for hunting on the Serengeti. By the time has finished you will be the fiercest predator on earth! Your int ital comment was that society prevented you from doing this, and now i have enlightened you! It only stops you if you let it!

  • So glad i just found this song

  • I appreciate the fact you believe I can survive without anything, but deep down I know that I cannot.

  • @TheLovvestLevel You can't survive anywhere outside your mom's garden POSER! Instincts are intrinsic to survival and to deny such a fact is ludicrous. It's clear you want a sterile comfort Disney style survival adventure. Is it survival adventure or escaping the bullshit of society you want?

I see your friend might want to accompany you!! I would suggest a female if you intend on propagating the human race but each to their own!

  • I'm 17 and going on my first solo jourey abroad this summer, it may only be for 3 and a half weeks but I want to be all the way out there, lakes, rivers, trees. Just get away from society. For, I love not man the less, but nature more...

  • To sum up:

You can't escape society as you have been brainwashed for two many years believing it is the only way. Until films like this come along and you suddenly realize what have i been doing all my life. By then it's to late.

  • @TheLovvestLevel I agree, but how old are you then? You sound relatively young...maybe i'm wrong. If you are young, then it's not late at all.

  • @UniversEEEEE I'm 18, But only after seeing this film (3 months ago), did I realize what else life has to offer. See this is my point, i have been blinded by society for so long. And many others have too. Ghostpen8 thinks if i wanted it so bad i would just go and do it, when in reality this is not the case. I am not against society for its freedom of knowledge but i am against how society presents this knowledge. It is too late before you realize it's there.

  • @TheLovvestLevel I agree about it not being so easy, but why is it late? You can always grab a book and start practicing survival skills, go to the woods, make a bir or a fish trap, get some survival tools, learn how to make fir and build a shelter, maybe grab a friend who's into such stuff along aswell :) To make it in the wild ( depends on the location ofc) is really hard probably, but doable. Or you might wanna check some eco villages. The nice ones with communities, not the shitty ones :)

  • @UniversEEEEE Yes, I have been learning survival skills these past few weeks, Watching videos, reading books that kinda thing, it's hard for me to do these things in practise such as making a trap for small gain, the only place were that even resembles a forest near me is our park about half a mile away, but going down there I would likely be mugged or worse. I doubt I could survive without learning anything but try telling that to ghostpen8, he thinks I can survive on instinct alone.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Instincts are important indeed, but yeah, i mean...going out there like the guy in the movie did...that's something else. Specially cos he went to Alaska. Shit ain't warm there. The more towards the south, the easier. But atleast there aren't so many poisonous animals in the north. So what do you wanna do? Really go out there like Mccandles?

  • @UniversEEEEE Yeah, like McCandless, except with the a guaranteed survival rating.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Well this sounds like surviving in your moms garden! You are not using your instincts at all cause your are not been challenged. It sounds like you want it to be easy and comfortable. When one mentions survival instinct goes hand in hand as they are intrinsically linked. It becomes clear that you do not grasp the enormity of the term survival. You want to play pretend, and that's fair enough each to their own.

  • @ghostpen8 I don't want to have to push myself to were survival becomes almost impossible. But I want to get close to the limit, I'm not talking about my mothers garden I'm talking about isolation from society, the Alaska'n wilderness. This does not mean I cannot take with me tools that society has to offer, that would be my death sentence. You see there comes a point were you must draw a line in the sand and just think is it worth my life. It doesn't have to be if you know what your doing.

  • @TheLovvestLevel I really doubt you would be able to bring yourself to kill an animal!

  • @ghostpen8 Your wrong, I don't want a safe environment were everything is simple and straightforward, but I do want the knowledge to make those same environments simpler to survive in.

That's why instincts must be accompanied by knowledge for if I could survive with just instinct those environments must be simple to survive in, in the first place.

You lack logic in your comments.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Every comment you make points to the contrary! You want the Disney theme park, safe sterile and without any risk. I never said knowledge wasn't required or it would be easy. Read my comments as i have backed up my argument comprehensively. You're comments are erratic. First you blame society for preventing you doing this, then commend it for providing you with the information necessary.

You have been influenced by a film and its clear you don't know what you want!

  • @ghostpen8 Did you even bother to read what I said. I don't want the "Disney style adventure". It should be hard - for people without the knowledge that is.

And this is WHAT I don't like about society, we are not taught survival. We all follow around one giant circle, because there is no path leading away we have no options in college to do survival, most of us are so hypnotized by society we just sit there on our phones not realizing the world that can be explored.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Come on man now you want a PHD in survival!! All soldiers are taught how to survive in hostile territories, catching and eating prey. This is beginners stuff. This criticism is not the great malaise of our society. The knowledge is there for you to obtain. The society that you live in affords you the personal freedom to undertake such an endeavor.

  • @UniversEEEEE You are making it sound pretty easy!

  • @TheLovvestLevel I never said it was easy but knowing what you want to do is half the battle. I said that Fortitude, sacrifice, will and desire were all required. However to have all the tools required and information at your disposal what is stopping you? Are you still going to blame society when you're 28. Society tries to map a blueprint for how to live our lives, done through socialization media ,and numerous other channels.

  • @TheLovvestLevel However a lot of people are blind to this process and are content to follow. You know what you want, and are aware of the falseness and destructive nature of society so if you can't break free who can. If you awoke tomorrow in the wilds, no supplies no civilizations you would have to survive on your instincts.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Your contradicting yourself now boss!

  • And my point about how society keeps us from being free, is because in society were are told go to school, go to collage get an education and go to work, then live of your pension.

When you are a young lad in school, you cannot survive on your own therefore you go to school and learn in order to get a job. There is no class that teachers one to survive alone. So you end up relying on the system. This is what I hate about society.

    GET IT NOW!

  • @TheLovvestLevel Well instincts are what can't be taught as they are an animals innate will to survive, and this is paramount to any species in their desire to survive in the wilds. GET IT POSER!

Well correct me if i wrong but was Chris not reading Leo Tolstoy and Jack London something that an education can open your mind to. You lauded the praises of the internet an instrument of society. My point is you lack the desire, and fortitude needed. If you want it walk away.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Read books learn all you need to know, like you said all the information is available to you. Maybe you like to cry about the system prepare yourself and walk away. Prove you not a POSER and i will have done some good!

  • @ghostpen8 Look I completely agree that instincts are the basis that allow species to survive, but I am not a species... I am one man. To prove myself with instinct alone would only make me appreciate society even more. The hardship and consequences that would pursue would not give me the freedom I wish to have. Why not take from society what it has to offer until I am confident wilderness survival will benefit me.

  • this movie and song touched me so much.. I love it!

  • this movie is one of the best Phil what I've seen twenty-one-year duration !

  • If you think you can SURVIVE without any KNOWLEDGE be my guest.

  • You are yourself a poser for acting as if you know how to survive. Get real.

  • Respect...

  • @LiutiPalestraItalia there is no music anymore when they stopped putting out stuff like this music died now its just noise

  • For most of us I'd have to say no, but society definitely needs you Eddie!

  • @Thelowestlevel Hope you will be able to get wi-fi out there, and find somewhere to charge your phone. You can just goggle the berry! Bring a couple of friends that are expendable for your trial and error. You moms garden does not count as the wild okay! Like i said POSER!

  • @ghostpen8 Wow,Wow... the contradictions you make astound me. What's wrong with Google, you said there's a wealth of information out there, about 99% of which could be found on Google.

Please look up the definition of "poser" because you clearly have no idea what it means.

If anything you are the poser for pretending to be someone your not. Your not a survival expert, so don't tell me what I do and don't need to survive.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Every comment you make digs a deeper hole for you! Your comprehension level is severely limited and reading your comment clearly proves that! My points have been succinct and concise! Your asking me to explain to you again my points cause you don't understand them. You clearly have missed the point of the film which is now abundantly clear POSER! You can have your ipad while surviving in your moms garden. what an adventure for you POSER!

  • @ghostpen8 Here is the definition for you. Poser - one who pretends to be someone who he is not.

Am I pretending to be a survival expert - No. Are you - Yes.

Am I pretending to be tough by using insults - No. Are you - Yes.

Something tells me your just an angry troll.

  • @TheLovvestLevel I'm not using any insults rather stating the obvious based on your incredulous comments, that continue to reinforce the very obvious fact that you are POSER! Give me further proof come on!

  • @ghostpen8 Get down from your high horse before you fall off.

  • @ghostpen8 Here is an hypothesis for you:

I lay 10 diffrent berries infront of you, there are 5 edible ones... you must eat the edible ones.

Using your instincts you you have a 50% chance of survival.

If you was taught what is edible you would have a 99% survival rating.

There is alot of information out there, but survival should be taught in schools, if you disagree you are a fool. Would you leave your kids to survive without any knowledge how to survive.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Instinct is something that all animals possess to survive this is a fact! you are a POSER this also is fact. You are incapable of making the sacrifice that is required of such an endeavor. You lack the will and desire to do such.

  • @ghostpen8 Your arrogance is unbelievable, the majority of animals learn to survive from observing there parents. A lone baby cannot survive. Humans need human interactions, this film also suggest's this. "Happiness only real when shared".

Chris also died in this film and he had knowledge, he had books, he learnt from others... imagine if he didn't.

Now answer me this question... Would you leave your child to survive in the wild with no survival knowledge?

    Simple question.

  • @TheLovvestLevel OK POSER let have a brief recap! You claimed that society has made you docile preventing you from surviving in the wild! However you have lauded praises on the internet as a medium to access a myriad of information needed for such an endeavor. First of all as part of a general education people are though the basics of surviving. You can read books, find information online to sharpen your skills. All these avenues are tentacles of the society you claim has made you impotent!

  • @TheLovvestLevel Hint of irony right. Simple few questions How old are you, have you received an education, do you not have access to a wealth of online information? What is stopping you from going into the wilderness to survive. Chris did die cause there are no guarantee's in this life but he also used his instincts needed to survive as long as he did.

  • @ghostpen8 Hey, i just wanted to say the following. What does his age or education have to do with being able to go into the wild. I mean you could be a teenager and be more skilled in the arts of survival then a senior... Also education? I don't think they teach how to survive in the school...They mostly teach some crap you never need in real life. Also education does not equal IQ nor creativity. Today's education basically makes you a scrub instead of teaching useful things. My 2 cents, chill.

  • @UniversEEEEE They were questions posed in response to a comment from another user. To see their relevance you should have first read that comment for the context to gauge its relevance.

Basic education like i know i must drink water to survive, if i killed a rabbit i know not to eat it raw. I need to keep warm at night so if i went into the wild 2mor i would know what supplies i would need and i have never had a direct survival education! Should have read the other comments before jumping in!

  • @TheLovvestLevel You are a POSER cause you cry about some abstract term that prevents you from doing something you love. You lack the fortitude, desire and will to do such a thing. You talk about Google and e-readers in the wild! Bring you mac and all the information you need. Maybe you're right instincts are not needed to survive in the wild, what use would they serve in enduring and reaching harmony in a harsh beautiful and unforgiving environment.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Instincts can't be learned some animals ever hear the expression nature is cruel, not all animals will have parents long afterbirth. They are cared only for a while and then left to their instincts and desire's to survive. Of course failure and death are still possible but there is always a risk and this is part of the allure. You want the guarantee and second chance POSER!

  • @ghostpen8 Give me one example were a lone human has set foot into the wild without bringing any knowledge of survival with them.

A child shares the same instinct's as a grown adult. So by your logic... a child could survive without learning survival from there parents. This is were you fail.

And you still didn't answer my question. Would you leave your child to survive without survival knowledge???????

  • REST IN PEACE CHRISTOPHER JONHSON MCCANDLESS .

  • "Thrive" in the video responses!!! I'm speechless

  • @Thelowestlevel Ok now we are moving away from our initial topic. I don't think that any governments have the power to completely censor the internet. People survived for centuries without the internet, and will do so again if needed. Governments and elites have always attempted to censor media sources so in that regard this is nothing new. Future generation may be forced to live in the wilds without any internet and they would have to adapt and use their instincts to survive.

  • until you have it all, you won't be free...

  • this is magic. Eddie Vedder is magic.

  • did anyone read the book first and then see the movie? Or see the movie and then read the book?

  • OMG so much smart and long comments on this vid!

  • @ishootthem you didn't read all the comments right because I am sure that would have taken along time with 3,737 comments and counting:)

Also did you read the book then see the movie? Or see the movie then the book?

  • @Thelowestlevel I do survive everyday

  • @Thelowestlevel Those risks that you cited are all very possible. You eat a poisonous berry that doesn't kill you, don't do it again. Should do it with an ipad or e-reader very light!. Its takes a personal degree of fortitude to be able to undertake such an endeavor, but people who blame other institutions for their lack of motivation is deplorable. If you want such a thing badly enough you can do it. No one said it was going to be easy!!

  • @ghostpen8 You love to contradict yourself, you now say nobody said it was easy when before you was talking about it's in are instinct's. And you are agreeing with me by saying take a e-book (e-readers about survival are from people with personal experience who are teaching you the knowledge) and trail and error is a learning curve not an instinct.

You live everyday, not survive. You are not in a survival situation everyday you are are behind a computer screen. Minimal survival is required.

  • @Thelowestlevel You need to read my comments again as your are becoming confused. My life is not behind a computer screen, and i take that to be an admission on your part. The e book was sarcasm, your comprehension seems diminished. All animals use their instincts to survive its called nature, and man has the ability to adapt to situations in order to survive. You have not grasped the nuances of my argument which is clear from your understanding of trial and error.

  • @Thelowestlevel You have a wealth of information at your disposal, which allows you to acquire all the necessary information in order for you to survive in the wild, yet you blame that very same society as preventing you from going into the wild, and living a different lifestyle. If you want to do this badly enough you can, and in order to survive in the wild you will need your innate instincts which allow you adapt to whatever situation you are faced, but there is no certainty.

  • @Thelowestlevel Well first of all there are no guarantee's in this life. Instincts have nothing to do with telling you when to eat, as hunger inflicts tangible symptoms on the body.Primitive man was able to survive without Google and your prior knowledge.Man has animal instincts which all animals adapt for their own survival. Go into the mountains, get hungry, kill rabbit and cook. Your instincts will be what aids in catching the rabbit, your instinct for survival like any animal

  • @Thelowestlevel He was using books and tools in order to survive in the wilderness plus he was educated by the societal institutions. If you went into the woods tomorrow with nothing you would use your animal instincts to survive. You would not know but you would adapt cause it's in your nature to endure and survive.

  • That movie really changed my life. I was like, man, I'm just too damn dumb ! The capitalist society has changed our life, we have been like "programated", and I was thinking about that nights and days.. But I was thinking about friends, and "social web" I made around me though. The fact that Chris' McCandless had the same question and died stupidly got me sad. I think everyone has to think about it and will change after seeing that movie.

R.I.P Chris' McCandless, forever in our Heart..

    Peace.

  • i had to watch a mcdonalds as before this, how ironic...

  • Beautiful song, fantastic lyrics. 10/10

  • My favorite song

    My favorite movie

    and My favorite album!

  • @Thelowestlevel Surviving is based on instinct and blaming something else for your failure to do so make you a POSER!

  • Absolutely beautiful - just like the film.

  • Im insired...Threw away all of my stuff!! A new beginning for me.

  • For me the theme of the films is an attempt to find a sense of peace and freedom by removing all oppressive institutions that try and coerce you into leading a particular life. This is done on many different levels and starts the day you are born

You don't necessarily need to go to Alaska as freedom is not a physical thing but an emotional personal and subjective feeling or ideal.

  • @Thelowestlevel boo hoo if you wanted it bad enough you would find a way, and stop feeling sorry for yourself! POSER

  • so many people want to break free and we all sit without a sound in front of screens..in the end we all meet eatch other under a big big tree!!

  • When I watched Into The Wild, my parents kept commenting about how he must have been crazy, but his dream made perfect sense to me. Everything he did. He died reaching out and taking the world he wanted.

  • @wordsarecrazy same thing happend to me

everybody around me didn't like the idea and thoght he was crazy

only a bunch of friends understanded it

  • @wordsarecrazy

I absolutely agree with you! my heart breaks.

  • I'll do this journey one day, watch me

  • @tneb1997 call me up for some company

  • Not all people are the same... But, just because someone shares different views, doesn't make them any less of a person than you. We might not all share wealth, fame, good looks, or any other materialistic and corroding components that seem so prevalent in our modern age... But we do share the most beautiful commodity in the history of man; life. And that astounding connection in itself is more breath-taking than any fortune or acclamation you'll find anywhere, at any given time.

  • dam old man winter adver o.o

  • Wonderful music and Wonderful life you've have had Christopher, even if you're dead because of it. You prove us it's possible to live !

A french guy which is in love of your story.

  • its a shame the currents bands and singers dont make music like that anymore... i want to get back on time, back when there was no auto-tunes, mixers and sell-lyrics, back when was just talent and creativity was worth listening.

  • @LiutiPalestraItalia

There's heaps of it, you just have to look past mainstream radio stations. Take Ray Manzareks info and, "give the music a chance."

  • @LiutiPalestraItalia Back when their was no Bieber.

  • this movie touches my heart. Along with this album. <3
