@realfunny7 Have seen a Youtube comment section or talk show on female bodybuiders? They still don't fit in that well. They get called freaks, "men", and all other kinds of insults by more than a few individuals.
@MuskelGrothe: only by small minded men or women - me i think they are sexy in their own way - not all but most - from the "tomboy" girl growing up until right now - i'm 62 & when i see the a girl that i went through school with at our reunions - yes she still flexes her right arm - small minds make a small world
@kassia911 I understand what you mean. Circuses would showcase anything out of the ordinary including extraordinary strength. But unlike for example, 'the pinheads' who had no choice but to perform, strongwomen entered circuses of their own free will. Females could earn good money and see the world without being dependant on anyone for support.
Hermanas Rubio-bangable(hermanas rubio=sisters, wouldn't it be be 2 of them?; photo 20, in photo 23 there are two girls), no.31 is not charmion, it's sandwina, thanks for posting, have you heard about Aneta Florczyk or Skytriss? I like them most
@boobmasteris lol its hardly something defined by age. its the choice of lifestyle by the individual. there have been men and women throughout all of history who have had no need to dally in physical work, and today there is plenty of women who do hard physical work.
this video had me mesmerized from the start. i have never seen classic pics of women's physical culture. after seeing the square jawed, husky voiced, spray tanned chemical monsters of today, this was really a treat. i love the old philosophy of earning your power through pure training without the alphabet of steroids and hgh. great video!
Thank you for the comment. Yes, female strength has come a long way. Some might say the wrong way! But i do know some strong old school women that train without drugs. Hard earned strength is the strength that lasts.
Can't say about the others (they might just be bulked-up bodybuilders), but Joan Rhodes, seen briefly at 1.50, was freakishly strong. She did a cabaret act which my father saw back in the 50s, she could break 6 inch nails with just her hands and once pulled a car to pieces live on UK TV.
notice anything about these women vs. the "strong women" of today? These girls still looked like WOMEN, still had feminine faces and bodies, not like today, where they have no boobs and look like ME when i first wake up in the morning.
Mildred was a very accomplished athlete and should have been in the list. Although as a woman myself i couldn't comment on the last part of your post!
holy crap i read about kate roberts i think was it .......any way i read that she competed against Eugene Sandow in one amazing feat of pressing a weight of 300lbs over her head and Sandow could only pull it up to his chest. omg she beat sandow!!!
That was Kate Brumbach (Sandwina) she took the stage name after beating Sandow. I have mentioned her to a few Sandow fans but they just turned their noses up. She was a fantastically strong woman. Charmion is my favorite because she had a fantastic physique. Edison filmed her amusing strip tease act (see video response above).
I haven't seen many current FBBs with peaks as good as 0:50. Amazing that their diet probably consisted of slabs of beef and no supplements.

67nairb 1 year ago
@67nairb Hi sorry for the delay. The lady is Joan Rhodes who died this year. Her autobiography is worth a read. A very interesting lady RIP.
Beerynose 1 year ago
@Beerynose Check out one of Joan's stage routines. Type 'Joan Rhoes cabaret act'.
Beerynose 1 year ago
@Beerynose It's okay. How old was she?
67nairb 1 year ago
@67nairb Joan was born in 1920. She was 90 when she died. The UK Times newspaper did a nice obituary for her. You can view it online.

@thatuniform The song is called Aerials. Some circus strongwomen were also trapeze artists. A tenuous link maybe but not totally unrelated!

@Beerynose Hmm... I didn't think of it that way. I just thought this was a random song. Okay, I take back what I said.
