  • This is a "gleaming" video. =p

  • I am around the weird part of Youtube yet again.

  • According to several forums in the internet, OCZ has the worst realiability between the SSD makers.

The SSD themselves aren't that reliable, several cases of dying in less than a year of use. I gave up.

  • silly guy!

  • I just bought the vertex 2 120Gb. I am a littlebit confused about the storage capacity. It's suppose to be 120gb drive but before i even installed Windows 7 64 bit it only showed capacity of 107Gb and it still does? How is this possible?

  • @gippula some is used in formatting the drive and some is reserved for replacing bad bits of storage under use, usually about 7% of rated capacity, you'll find this in ALL brands.

Check a "conventional" hard drive, same thing going on there!

  • @gippula all hard drives are like that, if you buy a 1 TB HDD it will only show 932 or so GB

  • youtube.com/watch?v=-GbuakO_dEs

  • u speak like a rappppppppper man..... lol

  • What happened to your hand??

  • If i buy a SSD of 50GB to store windows and others applications, and have a normal HD around 1TB to store things like videos/photos and others applications. Does the windows still loading faster?

  • @lufodao1990 yes. what loads faster are the ones inside the SSD

  • can I put these in a PS3 fat?

  • I have a blu-ray reader in my computer and i'm currently using PowerDVD10 tp play my blu-rays. Works just fine... BUT! Will the start up and reading speed be improved in some way if the program is installed on the ssd? The program is a bit slow all over before you start the movie up.

  • Do 2.5" SSDs use slimline SATA connectors or regular SATA connectors?

  • I want to know what is SSD Trim and is it best for a SSD

  • @SKYNETDUO n computing, a TRIM command allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally. In unanticipated progressive performance degradation of write operations on SSDs. TRIM enables the SSD to handle garbage collection overhead, that would otherwise significantly slow down future write operations to the involved blocks, in advance. TRIM command does not work on RAID volumes.

  • heey! he gave ut hte finger at 6:10 >: |

  • the write speed lags like crazy...

  • Can you run RAID with SSD drives?

  • @bishop102 yes but they will fail because trim isnt suported in RAID

  • these are awsome but TOOOOOOOOOO expensive

  • @xXTaNodel408Xx Actually depending on where you buy an SSD, they're not THAT expensive. I mean, still expensive, but much better than 1 year ago when this video was made.

  • They need to delete this now that the vertex 2 is out

  • @vampov Yeah true , they are even faster now.

  • lol at his broken hand! haha

  • LOL @ 0:24 XD PRICELESS!!!

  • can anyone explain to me whats the purpose of a solid state drive? like wont it be better if u just got a one tb hard-rive?

  • @dankill16 a Solid State Drive (SSD) is primarily used for 2 reasons:

Desktops - you load your operating system (ex: windows) onto an SSD and ur computer will startup, load files, and shutdown much faster then it would with a standard hard drive. Use additional hard drive(s) (ex 1TB) to store most of your standard and less accessed files (like games & movies)

Laptop - Load all of your computer onto a larger SSD and have no standard hard drive, this way your computer is faster & more efficient

  • @mrhozer or just get lots or realy big sdd drives and forget the slow old peices of shit, they can go to my dad for his laptop i made him FFS!

  • @dankill16 It's more of a luxury then a necessity, they are much faster and more stable then a standard spinning hard drive but are a lot more expensive. Look at some SSD comparison videos around YouTube. They are not typically used as a primary storage device for desktops since they are about $330 for 120GB and over $3000 for 1TB whereas a standard 1TB hard drive costs under $100 usually, so unless your super rich most people just buy 1 smaller one for the reasons below:

  • @mrhozer wow you actually helped me a lot. than you it makes way more scene now. i will subscribe to you fro all the help.

  • @dankill16 I don't do much on youtube to subscribe to lol... but your welcome :)

  • is the 250gb slower or faster

  • For those people out there saying you shouldnt buy over 60gb ssd's, remember that larger drives would be used for notebooks as we can only use 1 drive

  • does the agility SSD come with trim support?

  • where can i get it cheap Solid State Hard Drive and why the sub titles

  • @ducksoup2007 The subtitles are a service... and if you aren't a youtube noob. You know you can turn them off.

  • where can i get it cheap Solid State Hard Drive and why the sub titles

  • this is never HD

    and i got a hd5870 and a fullhd samsung p2450 -.-

  • I have 2 30gbs in raid 0 on an nForce controller, which really holds these babies back.

  • 6:10

  • you know its a acident...

  • Would this take any load off of my CPU? It sounds like a stupid question to me, but I do not know exactly how these work.

  • Really only need a 30 or 60GB though and run the OS on it. They really do make a huge difference. they only upgrade ive done in a long time that was truly worth the investment. Everything else like pictures, music, videos etc can be on a spinning drive. A lot of speed isnt needed for these things anyway. Even running the OS one a SSD and games on a spinning drive, believe it or not they still load faster. So really, 30 or 60GB is all you need to really speed everything up.

  • haha not that expensive! Thats crazy!

  • I was shocked for a sec when he dropped that not so expensive thing :o

  • Not very expensive? Who is this guy trying to kid. I look on tiger direct and the 120 gb is 439.00 and the 250 gb is 799.00. I'd rather just stick with my old fashioned sata 10,000's...

  • they dont get very many comments or views on these videos, or atleast not as many as i thought they would =]

  • The sticker on this SSD says not drop it and dont press on it. The SSD casing doesn't feel that sturdy at all. It is only sturdy and shock proof when mounted inside a case or notebook...

The ssd itself is still vulnerable to damaging. Just handle it with care like any other hardware.

  • whta would happen if i loaded a game onto this drive would it make fps go faster??

  • nope...it would just load up the game faster

  • That's a myth. Unlikely but you boot into windows ALOT faster.

  • look at the date ! is april fool day, so he just LIE!

    JK jk

  • I'm worried of getting an SSD, cuz they work similarly to ram, and I have had ram sticks go bad, so I imagine I would run into the same thing.

    How stable are SSD's?

  • Companies Give you Warranties. Patriots torqx i believe has a 10 year warranty.

  • they are 100 percent stable ,ive had problems with ram when i didnt know anything about rams, , go for ocz, kingston or intel ,, others suck

  • so I wont have to worry about if I abruptly shut off my computer, and turn my PC back on, that everything was deleted, because it wasn't saved properly...

like I am imagining SSD's to be like Ram drives, you can restart your computer, and have your stuff stay on the ram drive, if you shut it down properly, cuz it saves it to your HD first, but if you just unplug the PC, you lose it all.

    Hmmm.

  • dude, there is a big difference between ram and ssd ,they are based on flash memory but ram is a processing memory and ssd isn't ,thats why ram will lose all the data and ssd wont, plus ssd is like 100x times slower than ram ,, everybody would like to have a ram as a storage space,

one more thing ,we live in 21st century where we click on start and select shut down, we dont normally unplug the power cable, ,

  • lol, I know, but sometimes I have had my PC hang so bad, that going Start, and then Shut Down, doesn't even work, so what else am I suppose to do, leave it running, and buy a new PC? obviously I have to unplug it, or switch it off manually VIA the Power Supply switch.

Not saying I normally do it this way, but every so often that happens. I just wanna make sure that my data would be okay in the event.

  • ha, it's you, , xD ,,

reinstall ur os and get 1tb drive for all ur data and then get somemething more powerfull for your apps and os , , you should be fine, ,

  • yeah, but I shouldn't have to worry really hey, odds are it wont happen right?

and it is you that is replying to my SSD questions, haha.

  • Until like 6 minutes in I didn't notice his broken arm.

  • that freaked the shit outta me, my names alfred, so i thought he was talking to me...LOLOLOLOL

  • Lol they dont scale infinitely! The more you add SSD´s to your Raid-Controller the less you benefit !

For example: You have 8 SSDS (each sais it has 200 MB/s) that would equal 1600MB/s, but it´s just arround 1200MB/s.

And if you have 4 SSDs they dont have 4800MB/s but only arround 2.2-2.4GB/s!

If you dont believe me then watch the video 24 samsung ssds!

  • hang on, wont they scale infinitely though, fair enough you dont get 200mb + 200mb +200mb but you will get 200mb + something + something so they are technically infinate

  • Raid isnt that awesome at all. People think it is, but for Gaming its not. SSD is MUCH better. Raid is popular for servers & stuff like that for redundancy. The difference is so marginal, & if 1 goes down the Raid is dead, unless you stripe and mirror, but SSD are so small u wouldnt want to. My new rig: - 120GB OCZ Agility 2.5 SATA II Solid State Drive - 12GB (6x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 - Asus P6T Special Edition S1366 - Intel Nehalem Core i7 920 S1366 @ 940 Clock - 1GB Radeon HD 4890 (x2)
  • @ EFBoler

actually, what you're saying has made me realize something important:

buying 2 vertexes in raid 0 would almost pointless for my needs because the only real advantage is the increase in read speed (which if done right can peak around 480 mb/s)

but i then realize that i have no circumstances that could even take advantage of that degree of data transfer

the only thing i'm after is the BASE ACCESS SPEED (in ms) for loading textures quickly in vram, etc.

    but i then realize that

  • It actually has a break time?!?! I thought thats something solid state drives dont have, since there are no moving parts, what the hell?

  • Hello

I want to order a kick-ass gaming rig. Please take a look at what I'm planning to get:

CPU: Intel Core 2 due E8600 3.33 Ghz 6mb cache

    Motherboard: EVGA nForce 780i SLI

PSU: Power & Cooling Silencer 910W

VGA: EVGA Geforce GTS 250 1GB

    PC Case: Antec 300

OS: Windows XP professional SP2 32-bit

This is what I have so far, looks good or bad? Also, what do you recommend me for RAM and SSD? I'm planning to get the OCZ Vertex SSD for my gaming rig but I want expert opinion first.

  • Comment removed

  • What is your budget? By looking at that setup im guessing $1000 (AU).

A 910W psu is pointless unless you are using SLI or even Tri SLI. For a single graphics card and a dual core 650W is more then enough.

Also a SSD drive is a complete waste of money at the moment when you are on a budget, in terms of gaming performance you won't notice any difference, it will only make load times quicker and boot your OS quicker.

For ram, get 4GB of any latency (it doesn't matter unless you are overclocking)

  • Get a regular 7200 rpm hard drive, and a 650W psu, spend that $300-$400 you just saved on a new graphics card, if you can afford it go for a GTX 285 2GB, or just a standard 285.

Graphics card is one of the more important components when it comes to gaming, they will see the most performance improvement in games.

Also on that note, a 32-bit OS won't cut it, you need 64-bit to fully utilize your ram, if you are using 4GB of ram and 2GB of VGA ram, 2GB of ram is gone to waste.

  • Comment removed

  • That's just stupid... if you had no budget i'd be telling you to get 3 x GTX 285 2GB, a 1500W psu, a core i7 975 etc, which would run you astronomical amounts of which im fairly certain you don't have.

  • Core i7 blows, kk thx nub

  • Sure thing bud, coming from someone that asked for an expert opinion.

Might want to go look at some benchmarks.

  • That's not that great of a system b/c you gpu is going to bottleneck your performance. For a single card, go with an ATI 4890 or for sli, 2 gtx 260s or 2 275s. The ssd would be good, but if your into gaming the video card is what you should be most concerned about because with the one you have, you won't get very high framrates using any processor or overclock.

  • Why would he get 4gb of ram for a 32 bit os? Just keep in mind that ram frequency doesn't matter (because of cache sizes) so feel free to cheap out on that.

  • Yeah, i made a note on that, no gamer should be using a 32 bit OS these days anyways.

  • Great Review! What controller card would you recommend to get the best of this beast?

  • He says they scale infinitely but 4 saturates a ICH10r :( 800mbs is like the cap on a ICH10r

  • can i put it in a 3.5" slot somehow?

  • no. it's 2.5, but you can buy 3.5 enclosure for 2.5.

  • *Dribble* 20 of these in raid 0 in about 4 years time...

  • this guy should go back to school, lol it would last 171.23 years...(not that the .23 matters)

I'm sure the boys over at OCZ are watching this saying "Fuck"

  • i got my OCZ Vertex 60GB works good for loading files off the hard drive. only thing slow the PS3 down is the Blue-Ray

  • SSD<3

  • I Just got a 60GB Vertex and its awsome!!!!

  • OMG UR WRIST!!!!!!

  • OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD works pretty good in my PS3 (:

  • didnt know ps3 used ssds... or you mean that just the connections are the same?

  • In RAID 0 they do if you add more and more SSD's.

    Dumbass.

  • i miss alfred

  • im getting the ocz vertex 60GB for my PS3

  • ...

  • WTF?!

  • work ocz vertex 60GB in PS3?

  • yes it works good but the Blue-Ray player slows it down a little

  • Anything to lower those pesky loading times. NES in the 80s (!!) didn't have those, we shouldn't have to put up with 20-40 second load times, it's archaic, it's retarded. Sure, great graphics with a PS3, yadda yadda, but what we really want is SSD just like cartridges in a sense provided back in the days. Those who gave NoxeN the thumbs down have no clue about the emphasis we like to put on lowering load times whereever possible. It won't help installing much, no. It *will* help actual gaming.

  • Thanks for your input :)

  • Is it correct that formatting SSD drives alot is bad or caused damage to the SSD

  • Shouldn't be, it is the same principle as formatting a standard usb memory stick

  • Do not fromat the drive, just delete the files.

  • you don't need to reformate SSD drives

  • Cheap my ass, these things are wayy too expensive for t he size you get.. cheapest I've seen is 32GB $112(CAD) I've got a 1TB Western Digital 32MB Cache, bought it for $112(CAD)..

  • bet it runs at half the speed...

  • probably, but at least its 1TB :P I probably will buy SSD but only when they are affordable..

  • Solid State Drives aren't meant for storing files, on a desktop, it's meant for your Programs, Games, and the actual OS, then all your movies, and stuff on a separate HDD for storage like a a 1 TB.

  • Idd for now it looks like that, i hope it will change and replace the HDD. Andi hope the lifetime will expend when it hit the 'normal' price :D.

  • @DerekFord95 hmm i guess if you don't have the money that statement would be true. if you have the money i would store everything on them. theirs no spinning or movement the life time on a ssd is so much better

  • @DerekFord95 Yeah thats true.

  • @DerekFord95 in other words use a external HD for backups and storage

  • @DerekFord95 at your time of posting one year ago yes but now you can probably get away with SSD only in your desktop if you can do it in laptops you can do it to your desktop.

  • @DerekFord95 Programs, Games and OS are/have files.

    Whats your point?

Chop chop im about to take delivery of one and not sure what to do with it along side two standard SATA II HDD's.

  • You are paying for IOPS, not storage, fruity ass.

  • yes i realize that :P..

  • i have two 30gb vertex drives in raid 0 on a rampage2extreme and i am only letting 100mb read speed does anyone know what is wrong

  • are u using old sata cables? or u can update the fw see if that helps

  • it be nice to use 1 of these on a ps3

  • damn some flash drives are faster than 2.5" netbook hard drives...

  • Too expensive still x.x stick to raid-0 velociraptors until next year

  • wow computer tv make lots of reviews lol tis is the 5th review ive seen today

  • Yeah but then all the programs use up all the space. Like I'm using 60gig just for my os, programs and 3 games.

  • is anybody elses page upside down

  • lol april fools joke scared me for a sec

  • hey it's Logan! WB Logan!

  • april's fools?

  • no , i don't like logan , Albert is my hero :) Go albert !!!

  • your a dick, i think they both cool but to say logan sucks makes you a dick

  • They're still too expensive!

  • 30GB for $100 is too expensive?

  • Sorry I meant for 120gb or more. Can't really do much with 30GB. Also here in the UK thing are more expensive.

  • You can install the OS

  • In dollars per GB, it is too expensive: about $3 per GB for a SSD in some cases compared to less than $1 per GB for a hard drive. If speed is your goal, then it'll be worth it.

  • $0.04 i believe for the WD6400 AAKS hard drive. but all you need is a little <100gig SSD for OS and a couple of speed-needing apps and then have a couple of 1TB hard drives for storage and multimedia!

  • thats an under statement, the wd 2tb is like 10c per gb

  • and you can get a 1TB HD for $100

  • It's pretty scary that in a few years, these drives will be the size of an SDHC card... try to wrap your heads around that...

  • can i put one of these beast in my ps3?

  • that's a good question. i don't know the answer but i'll guess no. people have been wanting to put 7200 RPM hard drives in the ps3 but there have been compatibility issues since they aren't 5200 RPM. just because of that compatibility issue, i'm inclined to say that SSDs will also have compatibility issues.

  • Nope, only regular HDD and only at 5400RPM ones to. No ssd for ps3, sorry :(

  • it dosent matter, it supports ssd's none the less, you can use something like windows 98 on an ssd. you can also use linux, and the ps3 os is based of linux.

  • i think u can , i know they need to be 10 000rpm , and the size is good enough

but on a ps3 , you won't see any deference

  • the ps3 does not use a 10,000rpm drive, it uses a 5400rpm drime, so would see a good leap in load times.

ps this ssd is equevilent to roughly 50,000rpm if it spun.

  • letters upside down look russian..

  • well fuck your shit then youtube!

  • upside down

  • Is this youtubes new April fools thing cause its getting annoying >.> I'm like flipping my monitor over

  • on the top right corner theres a button that says Old Layout...press it and laugh back at youtube

  • LOOKS COOL

  • WHAT i am seeing all upside down letter video EVERYTHING... wtf

  • APRIL FOOOLS! lol

  • no i'm not joking just the whole website turns upside down :S when i'm going to watch a video.. it doesn't happen all the time just sometimes.

  • OK, your officially an idiot.

  • +1 lol

  • not in all countries is april fools day ¬¬

  • yeah but it is in that guys country, lol you know about it :p

  • Lucky you

  • 2nd

  • 120gb really expand the capacity

  • it also comes in 250gb
