I was at this very concert in 1983 with my best Bud, I just missed getting one of Vinnie Appice´s drum sticks and was sooo disapointed they came on for an encore and unbelievably Vinnie threw his sticks in to the crowd again. I reached up and the second stick just fell straight into my hand. A truly awesome moment and a day I will never forget.
Awesome! I've been waiting over 25 years for them to release Dio's first live gig! 25 years!!! When i heard it on the radio it just blew me away ...I can't wait to get my hands on this live album! i'm ordering it tonight from amazon. thanks for posting this track 717th drummer.
superb. That guitar is so heavy and easily matches the live version of CotS on Live at Hammersmith Odeon. I was at the '87 Dio/Donington gig and thoroughly enjoyed it but, oh, to have been at this one....
just ordered the CDs on the strength of this upload. many thanks
@gogilesgo Good Man! You will love that CD! I was at the '87 Donington show too, but i think this one surpasses that, in my humble opinion. It was my first ever gig (what a way to start my 'live gig experience')! Yeah, the guitar is heavy as hell! I always give so much credit to Viv Campbell and Vinny Appice (as a drummer myself, he is one of my faves), and Ronnie... Well, it goes without saying! But, the more i listen to the CD, I don't think anyone gives enough credit to Jimmy Bain, on bass...
Awesome! I was at this gig, and it was a simply stunning day!! I have been wanting someone to post more of this performance here on YouTube for years (there were one or two songs only), and i found out yesterday that this CD was released on Monday. After traipsing 'round a handful of record shops this afternoon, i returned home empty handed (Grrrr!!!), but i have just ordered it from good ol' Amazon. I can still enjoy it in the meantime thanx to 717thdrummer!! Cheers, Dude! RIP Ronnie... \m/
@klistarf You my friend, are one lucky son of a bitch! I was going to go to one of his shows that was like a month after he died, I would've killed to have seen Dio Live... Thank you for that comment, I hope you enjoy that CD as Much as I have. R.I.P. Ronnie \m//
@717thdrummer Thank-you! I just KNOW i will!! I hate to do this to you but, i was at the '87 Donington gig, too. Sorry! Lol! I also saw the band on the Last In Line tour in '84 at Liverpool Empire Theater with Queensryche supporting. Amazing shows, one and all!! The world lost probably the greatest rock/metal vocalist ever, when Ronnie James Dio passed away in late May of this year! Such a sad loss!! Thanx again for posting! Never stop rockin', Dude... (:o) And Ronnie, we miss you...!! \m/
@klistarf That Is AMAZING! I would've loved to just see him once haha, It would've been awesome to see dio with Queensryche, i just saw them on halloween night :D And Once again your welcome...Dio, you will be missed, Rock the Eternal Plains...
@717thdrummer Maybe i can upset you once more - i once met the guys from Queensryche, and got them all to sign my vinyl copy of Operation: Mindcrime. Lol! Nice guys! Awesome band... (:o) \m/
@klistarf That's pretty cool haha, I met them at my show too, but i didn't have anything to sign, they were just hanging out at the merch booth, also they were with the singer from warrent and Great white, they all hung out after the show haha
@717thdrummer That's awesome! I once saw Great White (in the early days, supporting Whitesnake). I like them alot! Warrant, i don't really care too much for altgough, in all fairness, i am not all that familiar with their material really. Cherry Pie anyone...? Lol! (:o)
I seen him Live in San Diego at the Sports Arena (1983) open for Aerosmith. Aerosmith was without Joe Perry at that time because of his gig with The Joe Perry project.. It was unbelievable to see RJD Live. I was 19 years old and completely miffed why he was not the headliner in this and Aerosmith was. When Steven Tyler came out (Drunk on stage) and slurring his words. The Crowd was Chanting "DIO", "DIO", "DIO". My best concert by far ever. Thanks for posting this awesome song!
@oceanking18 Hey there! This was not my post - that credit goes to 717thdrummer. But an interesting story, all the same. Yeah, Dio should've been headlining that show, imo! I only ever saw Aerosmith once (also at Donington. This time in '94), and although i don't mind their music, it was a bit of a let-down. Dio were, and always will be, an incredible band! RIP Ronnie... \m/
