Smallville is crap. It was "superman won't fly" until it needed ratings, then turned into a poor man's JLA clone. As for the depiction of soldiers as evil and maniacs - horrible.

@actionfx1 as well as the other DC universe animated series: Superman TAS, Batman TAS, The new adventures of Batman and Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League... even Teen Titans had some great moments for the characters when it wasn't beeing hilarious XD good times ^_^ I'm glad to say we can also expect good things from Young Justice based on the pilot episode =D Go animated DC Comics department!

The whole Patriot Act episode was gold. We had references to Captain America, Spy Smasher, the shaggy man (as the General), Seven Soldiers, the Hulk, the newsboy legion, and probably some other stuff I didn't notice. Not to mention this scene is perfect; the neo-con rhetoric, the heroism, the fact that it's shining knight and not superman or batman. Finally the entire metaphor of the creeping threat of fascism in America. Perfect, one of the best moments in the DC universe.

As for why Shining Knight, Vigilante, etc... it's a pretty obvious homage to the old-school Seven Soldiers of Victory, with Stripesy upgraded to S.T.R.I.P.E. and Star-Girl standing in for Star-Spangled Kid.

Green Arrow, Shining Knight, Vigilante, Crimson Avenger, Speedy, Stripesy and Star-Spangled Kid were the original Soldiers.

Dude. Whatever you do, never , and I mean NEVER, read Stan Lee's Superman. It's just a total disaster. That goes the same with Stan Lee's Batman and Stan Lee's Wonder Woman. If he would created the DC Universe himself, it would have been horrible. If Jack Kirby was'nt working for Marvel, their characters would have sucked so bad. All the credit of Marvel goes to Jack Kirby, along with half of the DCU. Stan Lee was just a man who sat on the side lines compared to him. Jack was the true genius.
